A Magical Night of Music in San Diego. “Star Wars Concert for the Fans!”

Star-Wars-at-SDCCThe Star Wars panel at San Diego Comic-con may not have shown off the highly anticipated trailers or surprise scenes that the other studios did, but it is fair to say that when all is said and done those in Hall H on Friday night will remember the experience for the rest of their lives…

After pleasing attendees with a 3 minute behind the scenes video and some memorable cast banter on the stage Friday night, one could be forgiven for thinking that Lucasfilm was about to close things down with a fairly standard panel with few surprises. But the people behind The Force Awakens had one more card up their sleeve yet to play. As the panel wound down, JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy let the audience know that everyone in attendance was about to be whisked away by Storm Trooper escort to a free, open air, concert of Star Wars music. The hall erupted and social media exploded as all the attendees were marched out of the convention hall and to a nearby field for a live concert by the San Diego Symphony orchestra complete with a recorded introduction from John Williams.

Here’s a taste of the incredible experience 6500 fans witnessed together:

I keep trying to reign in my excitement and expectations, but whenever something new like this comes out, I get more and more jacked up. They’re really doing a fantastic job of building this thing up.

I can not WAIT for December 18th… a whole new Star Wars trilogy. I never thought I’d ever see this… just incredible. It can’t get here soon enough!

Same here… it’s unreal. I remember the excitement I felt when the news initially hit that more would be made… but then nearly immediate trepidation about what to expect when learning Disney was at the helm. Some of the concerns were alleviated when the first concept images linked. Most when teaser 1 hit. All when teaser 2 hit. It’s actually more euphoric than how I felt prior to May 1999… I think I may need a cardiologist present on premier night.

Looking at the shots of cast it’s pretty cool how they *nailed* the casting; these new people feel very star wars to me now. I can’t wait to see them in action!

I was there, and trust me, it was very, very magical. Plus, a free yet surprisingly fun lightsaber is always another plus 😀

We have two different things in this topic: A SW concert, no murdering allowed with lightsaber cheers, and many blue saber fans! Then an actor/actress photo-chute!

I must say, as I am a single man over 6 feet tall, I am going to enjoy the Gwendolyn Christi actress movie parts as the Chrome New Order Trooper probably more than the Daisy Ridley Rey movie parts. I know, just like in life, I have little chance with these women for a date. This is just as rare as finding a date with any tall woman like Christi as most other dating men quickly absorb them before any personal chance! THIS IS DISNEY AND SO I DON’T KNOW WHAT FAN DREAMS WE ARE SUPPOSE TO HAVE! I am glad Star Wars is now expanding beyond ONLY WOMEN IN THE WORLD princess or queens that predominated Lucas’ movies. It made some Caucasian fans dream to be a Jabba the Hutt slave girl owner or look to the Cantina at Tonika Sisters classic trilogy as their only other desperate choices; but, maybe this reflects the bar scenes in the real world as the only viable alternative place to meet women in late 20s to early 30s for single men, never married! I AM GOING TO ENJOY THE SCUM AND VILLAINY SCENES IN TFA AS I BELIEVE DISNEY IS WILLING TO EXPLORE IN TFA PG-RATING-WISE! ; )

Get over it already. What we got was infinitely better than a traditional trailer.

Is it weird if I somehow find Gwendoline Christie just as hot if not hotter, in a weird way, than Daisy Ridley?

Not weird at all. They are both lovely, even though they have very different qualities. I lean more towards Daisy, but Gwen is stunning, no doubt!

*Ahem* in the 2nd vid @ the 9:52 mark the video screen plays a montage of clips from the PT. I guess Disney/JJ/KK aren’t as anti-PT as some of the commenters here (including admin) would suggestively have people believe…

Wow! It would have been amazing to have been there. Light-sabers and fireworks!

You know, I’ve been hearing this music for almost 40 years now and it STILL gets to me every single time I hear it. There will never be another John Williams. The man is a genius!

Say what you will about Disney and their “evil marketing minions”, but they didn’t have to put on an event like this. I think it was an awesome thing for them to do for the fans.
