Star Wars: The Force Awakens SDCC Panel Time Confirmed – “Special Guests” Mentioned.

Comic ConA little update on the San Diego Comic Con panel for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens has just come up: we now have an official frame of reference for when the SDCC panel will occur, along with what we’ll see there.

From the official San Diego Comic Con website:

Friday, July 10 • 5:30pm – 6:30pm – Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy, director J.J. Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan, and special guests provide a special look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

To me, this is going to be about as blunt as Disney/Lucasfilm will get to actually saying that there will be a new trailer for the panel. They kept quiet in regards to the Star Wars Celebration Anaheim teaser reveal to the point where people actually believed that they were saving it for SDCC. Up until now, people said something similar, in that Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios would both be minimizing any appearance at widely-covered SDCC to wait for the scarcely-covered D23 (which – I should note – will have new content). It looks like come July 10, Lucasfilm is going to put those rumors to bed and unleash the Awakening Force upon the world once more.

<> on April 16, 2015 in Anaheim, California.

The bad news about this panel is that it most likely will not be livestreamed, though live-blogged descriptions of the event and articles about what so-and-so said will pop up as the news breaks. The silver lining in this “embargo” of sorts that is that actual footage of the panel will probably pop up a few days later. Even with such an embargo in mind, if there’s a trailer – and it’s very hard to imagine that there wouldn’t be one at this point – it will officially be uploaded online minutes after it airs at the convention. The powers that be aren’t going to want to sift through a bunch of pirated copies of the trailer for a movie that comes out in less than six months.

As far as special guests go, it’s probably safe to speculate that at least some of the new cast members who were present at Anaheim (Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac) will be back for another pass around. Harrison Ford could possibly make an appearance (since if I remember correctly, he really wanted to show up for SWCA, but couldn’t due to his injuries from the plane crash), though I wouldn’t count on it, since he’s tended to avoid these kinds of events in the past; Mark Hamill showing up at SDCC seems more likely, in any case. If I had to guess, I would count on Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and Lupita Nyong’o either Andy Serkis or Domhnall Gleeson making appearances. In any case, Christie is already confirmed to be present at the Game Of Thrones panel, so her appearance at this event (which happens a few hours later) is practically assured.

My body is ready. Anybody else see the 3 stills that were leaked? I feel like we may see the original 3 in this one!

    3 stills? Where?

A post on here earlier this week shared two stills from makingstarwars. One with Han, Rey, and Finn in the cockpit of the falcon, and another with Domhnall Gleeson (as a new order officer) and captain plasma standing right next to him. The third still…well…it’s a picture of Luke with a beard with a temple-like stone wall background, clenching his fist. But his fist is a completely mechanical hand…it looks like the same one placed on R2 in the newest trailer. You can check my Instagram for the stills (@jedimaster_ty).

Since the picture has already been leaked I wouldn’t be surprised if GG shows up in an X-Wing pilot uniform.

Lupita heads back to her native Kenya the end of this month (check out her IG), so doubt she’ll be a participant on this panel. Would be great to see Driver, Christie, or even Gleason…

Interesting find, although it only says that she’ll be going there on the 29th and 30th without saying how long she’s going to be there. I think there’s a chance she could make it back in time (depending on how long this tour of hers is), but if she can’t make it, I’d imagine that Andy Serkis could cover for her.

I didn’t know about the Kenya tour thing until recently – the article has been updated accordingly.

Daisy Ridley showing up at San Diego Comic Con will be great. She will have the biggest fan following and the biggest applause of the 3 new leads.
