battlefront-deluxe-edition

The long anticipated EA press conference at E3 2015 will start in less than an hour. Electronic Arts will unveil its upcoming onslaught of games including Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, a rebooted Need For Speed, and of course Star Wars: Battlefront

EA announced that the will be showing Battlefront gameplay and announcements of game features they’ve kept secret for a while.

Highlights from the event:

  • Mass Effect: Andromeda was shown first.
  • The mention of Star Wars alone drew applause. EA confirmed that Battlefront would be the last game shown.
  • The Need For Speed reboot was after this announcement.
  • Updates for Star Wars: The Old Republic were subsequently announced on a sidebar. The new expansion, Knights Of The Fallen Empire, will be released this October. It will be free to all subscribers.

  • A new IP was unveiled – Unravel. This was followed by Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. Next came EA’s various sports games, along with several new mobile titles.
  • Star Wars: Galaxy Of Heroes was announced as a new mobile game with characters from the Original Trilogy, the Prequel Trilogy, and The Clone Wars.
  • Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst was another major reveal.
  • …And then the stream crashed. (D:)
  • …But it came back in time for Battlefront!

While there wasn’t anything on the Visceral game here, the event goes on for another few days. If anything else is announced, we at Star Wars 7 News will cover it!

Who cares about Battlefront? Knights of the Fallen Empire is coming! Can’t wait for the trailer.

    SO MUCH HYPE.

Although an Old Republic era version of this Battlefront would be better than both.

There are a few mods for Battlefront 2 with KOTOR maps and players etc! Definitely worth a look if you’ve not seen it before.

Stop making Star Wars mobile games… you are abusing your license to the franchise in the most pathetic way…

How do you even reboot need for speed…

Also nice to see the new mass effect game build top to bottom to avoid the obvious f**k up of Mass Effect 3 rather than to adress and fix the problems.

Agreed on the mobile games. It wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t have to make everything canon; a SW mobile game that has no connections to the canon would be fine, but making it “connect” guarantees they’ll sell more copies.

1:23 in trailer! The brother who becomes a sith has the resistance sigil and the jedi has the first order sigil?! Whaaaat does that meeaaan??!!¡ Those symbols go waaaay more back than previously expected, right?

Knights of the Fallen Empire looks cool, but in practice it’ll probably be just another “meh” expansion for TOR. How good can a game be when it’s an MMO? Retool the game as a console RPG, then I’ll get excited.

So I just watched the BF gameplay. Looks pretty Damn cool. Takes place on Hoth and looks like u can play either Rebels or Empire. Vader and Luke at the end.

Sitting through all these sports game announcements is painful. So was what EA did to plants vs. zombies. OMG

Ok sitting through sports previews was worth the battlefront footage… holy cow! Even if it’s scaled down in comparison to other battlefield entries… I think it will still be worth playing. The feel is there… I love seeing the Star Destroyers in the sky!

So Battlefront looks pretty cool! But I had one gripe: why is RotJ Luke on Hoth?? Granted, Vader wasn’t on-planet either, but I feel like they could have rendered Luke in his Rebel getup and with his blue saber for this battle.

All in all though, I’m happy with it. Need to shill out some cash and get a next-gen console soon.

Vader totally was on-planet on Hoth. Walked into the docking bay with snowtroopers in-tow and watched the Falcon blast off

Did any of you watch the movies? Christ, it’s like you ignored the reason of why Luke went to Dagobah to train with Yoda. Luke was not fully trained in ESB. It wouldn’t make any sense to throw in Luke from ESB to be pit against Vader. Also the creators of Battlefront have iterated multiple time that this is a game where you get to play your Star Wars fantasies. Seeing Luke battle Vader on Hoth could one of many of these fanatasies. Quit gripping on small details and just be happy we’re get Battlefront!

      • June 16, 2015 at 12:48 am
        Permalink

So you’re hollering because we want to see Luke in his canon costume for this battle, but you’re going to nitpick that we don’t because he wouldn’t have gotten his training from Yoda yet? Yes, this game is about Star Wars fantasies, but those fantasies are a lot easier to play out if the characters look correct. I’m excited as hell for this game, having one gripe with the footage doesn’t change that. Rage much?

I’m not even bitching? I’m just pointing the fact you’re the one nitpicking.

If Disney is scared to make films that stray too far from the OT, I really wish some of these new games would delve back into the Old Republic era, or at least the times before Phantom Menace.

Lol calm down kiddo. Its going to be a good expansion. There are only so many stories that don’t eventually have same themes. Canon vs Non-Canon, who cares? Its just entertainment. Just play the game or don’t and don’t worry about your space wizards being “canon” in a fictional universe.

  • June 16, 2015 at 3:27 am

I guess this confirms that Battlefronts events aren’t canon in anyway shape or form.

It seems you can fire the harpoon while piloting. It would be better if you could use tow cables only with a copilot/gunner on board.

What would the 2nd player do besides use the tow cable? It’s just more practical this way. Seems so much easier than in the original Battlefront (Xbox) and Shadows of the Empire (N64), too.

Mmmm. Apparently it’s an other SW games where lightsabers are not lightsabers.

When are you giving us an other Jedi knight game !?!

Stop casualing our games !! Body-shields, jetpacks, walkers on rail, and what next, lightsaber combat with QTE !?! You Dice have to stay on your Battlefield.

  • June 16, 2015 at 3:04 pm

Dice came out and said a while back (which was reported previously on this site) that even though the game takes place within the SW canon, it is impossible to place the control and outcome of a game into the players hands and declare it canon. The battles were real events in SW canon, but how they play out are not. It’s a video game. If I want to play as Han Solo at the Battle of Geonosis, that’s my prerogative and it’s fun to do crazy things like that. That’s one of the aspects of the original BF games that made them really fun and added replay value. This doesn’t mean that it’s canon. If you want Battlefront canon, read the Twilight Company novel when it comes out. With the game, they are just giving us an immersive SW experience that lets our imaginations dictate the type of experience we have. There’s nothing wrong with that…that’s entertainment at its best.
