UPDATE! Rumor: Details on the New Planet Jakku from The Force Awakens

JakkuWith the reveal of the desert home of Rey being the planet Jakku, and not Tatooine like many thought, questions have begun flying over the history of this new planet. Hit the jump to see our report on rumors concerning the history of Jakku and some elements of the backstory for two characters in The Force Awakens.

Well in the period between the announcement of Jakku and DICE’s reveal of the Battle of Jakku DLC someone posted on reddit about what they were told was the backstory of Jakku. The post can be found HERE but I will post some of the highlights below.

WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW

Jakku

1. Jakku was deserted until a massive battle caused the Star Destroyer we saw in the teaser to crash.

2. Max von Sydow was the commander of the Star Destroyer and his crew were the first settlers on the planet.

3. Sydow is angry at the Empire/First Order for abandoning him and his men in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor.

4. Sydow provides help to Rey and Finn before they leave the planet.

5. Because of the scavenging potential Jakku has become a hive of scum and villainy like Mos Eisley.

Kylo Ren

The reddit user also posted some information on Kylo Ren’s backstory, referring to him as the equivalent of the “false idols” that plagued the Early Medieval European church. Kylo Ren is claiming to be Darth Vader and through his use of the Force more and more members of the First Order are starting to believe him. In the film Kylo makes a power grab to take control of the First Order and his brutal tactics are part of what leads Finn to desert.

Darth Vader

It’s also worth noting that the Battle of Jakku will be early DLC for the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront game. In the trailer for Star Wars Battlefront there was a much debated scene.

Biba Fett

Not only do we have Boba Fett, one of the Star Wars community’s most beloved characters, alive (Jonathan Rinzler already confirmed in the past that Fett lives). But we also have the question of exactly what planet this is on. On one end we have a sandcrawler, a vehicle deeply associated with Tatooine. But on the right side we have an identical copy of the crashed Star Destroyer of Jakku. This poses the question of whether or not this scene is meant to be on Jakku or Tatooine. We also know that Jakku had to have a land battle since there are no space battles on the launch version of Star Wars Battlefront. Regardless of one’s theories on the matter, there is a lot that has been given to us to speculate on.

EDIT: DICE already confirmed that the planet from the trailer footage is Tatooine.

If these rumors are true, they provide a lot of interesting backstory to a couple of our more mysterious characters in The Force Awakens. And they sound really plausible matching with other rumors we’ve heard about the movie before.

Poster

Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that our own Cantina member Yoda 2 revealed the name of the dessert planet months before Celebration. He also revealed some other bits that could be of interest, since his credibility was confirmed. Here’s what he posted at our message boards The Cantina on March 9, 2015:

Jakah (spelling?) is the name of the desert planet not Tatooine. (CONFIRMED)

C3PO has both gold legs but a dark gun metal colored arm now.

Poe has big face scar. (CONFIRMED)

Kylo Ren’s mask is a relic. There might be multiple masks he wears.

Kylo Ren character poster has new Empire icon that looks more like an astrix *. (CONFIRMED)

Kylo poster has tons of stormtroops behind him. (CONFIRMED)

Already known but Christie is the Chrome Trooper.

R2 looks pretty much the same just more beat up.

Chewie looks same just little older with some grey hair. (CONFIRMED)

Rey looked the same as her teaser trailer costume with no hat. (CONFIRMED)

Rey’s hair was pulled back only saw from the front. (CONFIRMED)

Finn was wearing leather jacket and pants like one of Luke’s. (CONFIRMED)

Screenshot_13

And here are some bits that Yoda 2 saw about Rey’s home (the AT-AT wreckage) on Jakku, but this time from the inside:

All I can say is I saw what I saw and it was the only thing I saw. It was a set photo from Pinewood. It was the inside of an AT-AT with tons of stuff in it like someones living in it, dirt floor like its buried partially into the ground and a hammock that kind of resembled Chewie’s bandoleer.

Also it was a fully finished set and it was lit as if light was coming from outside. So the photo was taken most likely during the filming of it.

You can share your thoughts on these matters in the comments below or in The Cantina.

UPDATE!

EricHizzo, the person who posted this on reddit, joined our boards and shared where he got this info from. Here’s what he said:

The info comes from an author who will be writing a new novel that has yet to be announced. The plot is about the aftermath of the Battle of Jakku, more specifically the first settlers. Again, the first settlers are the surviving crew of a crashed Star Destroyer and MvS was the commanding officer of the Star Destroyer. The crew are stranded. The ‘first responders’ aren’t interested in rescuing anyone. They are there to loot. The novel is a story about MvS’ crew surviving against the elements and hostile pirates that show up shortly after the battle.

Kylo

Also while Eric was pretty confident about the Max von Sydow’s part of the story, he expressed his doubts about the accuracy of the Kylo Ren part. Still, here’s what he said:

If this guy was hired to write a story about Jakku, not sure how he knows about the Kylo Ren stuff. Writer’s are a gossipy bunch so maybe he knows someone who was hired to write a Ren novel.

Assuming the Ren stuff is true, I have some clarification for you guys. Ren is literally claiming to be Darth Vader, in the flesh. He is saying I am Darth Vader, I survived the Death Star explosion (the audience knows this is not true). Ren is a very mysterious character. He has almost no back story. The first scene of the movie is Finn finding out he has been promoted to Ren’s elite unit of storm troopers. They immediately leave on a mission. I don’t know any details about the mission but this mission is the scene from the second trailer – night time with Ren in action. Apparently Finn sees Ren in action (brutal, violent, no empathy), is like F this, and deserts. That is the beginning of the movie.

This last part actually fits pretty good with a report made by MSW back in November, about a possible line from the movie. According to the report, Daisy Ridley’s character is being captured and brought to Kylo Ren, when she says: “You’ll never be as powerful as Darth Vader!”

You can read EricHizzo’s whole post (including some speculations on his behalf) in The Cantina HERE.

As always treat this as a RUMOR and take it with the usual amount of salt. 🙂

I’m having a hard time reconciling what we know of Kylo Ren with the notion that he is Rey’s brother.

Why would Daisy’s father say her character is “half-royalty, half-action hero” unless she told him she was Leia’s daughter? I think they are both Solos, but not because of the EU. I never really liked the post Jedi EU, but I like the idea of siblings on either side of the Force. Also, Daisy looks like Fisher and Adam looks like Ford.

Gleeson does not only totally not look related at all other than being a white guy l, but he’s not a main character.

There’s no way he’s a Skywalker. Totally pointless as it would be. Let this rumor die as it should.

And he actually does look like he could be Hamill’s son to me. But he also looks a lot like Tarkin…

Jut think about Tatooine is A PLANET! (About the same size and gravity than Earth.) What we saw and know about it just a little part of a PLANET. Jakku can be the name of Tatooine’s bigest and dryest desert, and also the name of the planet in the langueage of jawa’s. Where are NO Moisture Farms at all… absolutely uninhabited…. only the survivors of crashed ships live here, afther the BATTLE OF JAKKU… and their descendants….

Except Abrams specifically said the planet is “called Jakku, it’s not Tatooine as some have speculated.” Seems pretty conclusive to me.

This rumor listed here goes agains the MakingStarWars account. By their account, Max Von Sydow is some sort of Vycar who dies in the first scene. If MSW is wrong about this then there’s a good chance they’re wrong about Luke not being in the movie. Luke not being in the movie seems like a ridiculous rumor all around.

Here’s some food for thought. Take a look at the picture on IMDB, showing the cast for the movie. Coincidence that Adam Driver(Kylo Ren) is sitting by Mark Hamill(Luke skywalker)? Then you see Daisy Ridley(Rey) sitting in between Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Carrie Fisher (Leia). My opinion is that the seating arrangements is not random, but intentional.

We have to let the EU kids go folks. Rey is not a Skywalker/Solo. She is basically a teen/early 20 who has been on this planet alone a long while as she seems to be an experienced scavenger. Having said that, I totally think Kylo Ren IS a Skywalker with delusions of his Grandfather…

So, is the force power of the Skywalkers just supposed to suddenly become irrelevant? This is a saga about a family that has an extremely powerful connection to the force, one that has in fact shaped the galaxy – is that just supposed to go away??? Just because many are “tired” of the EU, does not mean that the story would not go in that direction regardless.

Rey is Han and Leia’s kid and Adam Driver is lukes offspring. Kylo Ren seems obssesed with Darth Vader and it is luke, not Leia who has the strong connection with Vader so it makes total sense. He learned about Vader from his father. I have a feeling that at least half the reason Luke has vanished is because of his failure with his own son(Driver) who is now hunting him. And by the way hate to break it to all of you but this IS EU, it is not produced or written by Lucas which makes it expanded universe junk. Period.

Um, Disney now owns the brand as of 2012. It’s not EU garbage it’s canon. They paid a lot of money for it. George has no more control over it. Get over it, and get used to it.

No it doesn’t become irrelevant. Luke is still around and is needed to restore the Jedi. But in case you missed it, the story was about Anakin falling to the Dark Side and his son redeeming him. And that story is finished. Anything else is new. There is absolutely no need to make the films center around the same family. That was never the story focus in the first place.

I hope they finally did let go off ridicolous family relations across the galaxy. Maybe Kylo is posessed somehow by an evil force spirit, who makes him go nuts. And maybe The Force Awakens is ment quite literal and someone returns from the dead, hm like Greedo.

          “no new ideas”
Just because they are brother and sister doesn’t mean the story will be the exact same one as the EU. I doubt they are supposed to be twins and we have no idea what either one of them will do in the series. Rey could join Kylo and then Finn has to fight them both. It is hinted at that it is Finn who gets Anakin/Luke’s saber since he has it in that concept art they showed at the exhibit (along with other rumors).
We also don’t know that it wasn’t one of George’s ideas that they kept.

I’m talking more about the future of the franchise. I’m not saying Rey will turn in this film or be turned away, but I think Finn gets that particular saber, possibly making Rey jealous.
Also, Hamill said that dialogue was recorded for the trailer (direct lift from ROTJ for the main voice with new voice-over for the echo), so he doesn’t actually say that to anyone in the film. It’s just there to imply a connection.

Very true. I expected the team to stick roughly to the old canon with the solo twins, and what followed between them.
          Today’s hollywood lacks creativity.
My speculation of the plot, is that, in the flashbacks we’re going to see, luke’s jedi academy is attacked and the young solo boy is taken away and raised by the empire, while is sister is sent into hiding.
Years later, he’s all grown up and kicking ass, and his sister has to stop him. Old-EU Darth Caedus storyline, brother turns bad, sister must defeat him.

This is what I predict. We will get a well written script and good acting but a very weak story. Remember, George Lucas’s strong point has always been the way he has constucted and executed his stories. People may hate the prequels but there is no denying that the stories were very good, meticulously crafted and well executed. These films are going to fall very short of that without him.

I think the inclusion of Luke’s line from ROTJ in the trailer pretty heavily implies the presence of a next generation in the Skywalker bloodline, and I don’t think it’s too far of a leap to peg Rey as that presence. There’s about as much official evidence pointing towards her as there is towards Kylo being a Solo/Skywalker.

Not to mention, in the cast photo, she seems to be in deep discussion with Carrie Fisher, and sitting between Fisher and Ford. Now, without the above context, it might be too much to read into that; but considering the official information that’s been released, and JJ’s propensity for leaving clues hidden in plain sight in press releases, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that her specifically sitting between those two people means something.

totally agree that her being on that planet indicates that she may have nothing to do with the solo clan, however it has already been said that poe has been sent on a mission by royalty, and he then encounters rey and finn, my guess is that kylo ren is skywalker/solo with some sort of delusions, believing he is darth vader, and after falling out with her family or possibly through shame of her brother turning to the dark side, she flees to jakku,

Yep. Kylo has to be Leia and Han’s son. His name appears to be derived from S[KY]walker and So[LO]!

Thus, he is Anakin’s grandson. He feels the title of Darth Vader is his, which is why he claims to be Vader. He wants to fulfill what was to have been Anakin’s destiny: to be the “balance of the Force”. But Uncle Luke is Force-cock-blocking him.

Furthermore, maybe the character known as “Kylo Ren” is known as a skilled Resistance pilot. So this could explain on-set reports of Adam Driver wearing an X-Wing pilot uniform. His sinister alter-ego is “Darth Vader”. So Kylo could be playing two roles in both sides of this war.

This all sounds really awesome!!!! My mouth actually dropped when I read the description of Kylo Ren’s character. It’s such a cool idea and adds a whole layer of religious subtext to the Force and its “orders.”

I really hope Kylo is a character that exists outside the Skywalker/Solo family. That clan has been through enough and I want to see how villains from other sectors can be legitimate threats.

The idea of Darth Vader, however, being a mantle instead of an actual person is really awesome. Vader never embraced his Anakin persona publicly and as a result, he became this sort of boogeyman who just had a vague connection to the Jedi Order. This sounds great!

The reason why it seems likely that Kylo is a Skywalker is because his name appears to be formed from S[KY]walker and So[LO].

Also, the first two trilogies focused on the Skywalkers — son and then the father. So thematically it would make sense that this new trilogy focuses on a next generation Skywalker (a grandchild).

It would also explain why Kylo claims to be Vader. “Vader” is a title he feels belongs to him through birthright.

It also establishes a falling out between him and Uncle Luke.

Im “meh” on the whole Vader thing. I was ok with them referencing Vader in TFA but Kylo actually convinces people ‘he is Vader’? No, please NO. The naysayers are gonna be screaming from the rooftops “told you they were just raping the OT for ticket sales!”

Surely they can make Kylo more interesting than that?

It all depends on how they do it. I think its more about taking advantage of the Imperials who have little to no understanding of how the Force works.

Vader was declared dead after Endor, sure, but we know that the idea of Force ghosts are real under certain circumstances.

I think it’s more about Kylo embracing the general ignorance of non-Force users than just “raping the OT for ticket sales.” Besides haters are gonna hate.

I agree with you, to a certain point.

I also don’t see Ren able to convince many surviving Imperial Moffs or leaders that he’s Vader, but he may be able to talk them into thinking that he’s Vader’s apprentice and heir.

IMO, it’d be best to see a new generation of Force-wielders come to the forefront, leading the audience to discover more secrets of the Force as they learn them themselves, similar to the way that the original Jedi and Sith came to be.

I like to think that there will be no more Jedi (in the traditional sense, since Luke wasn’t fully trained like a Jedi from previous generations) and no more Sith, because the last 2 true Sith Lords are gone for good.

The idea seems far more realistic to me than having Ren be the apprentice of some Sith long thought dead, who happened to be in hiding all this time, waiting for the perfect chance to take over the galaxy, as was the case with the Plagueis rumor.

There are at least 2 star destroyers in Teaser #2; the one seen in the distance in the beginning, and the one the Falcon flies into, which appears to be an upside down Super Star Destroyer – were these both in the rumoured battle over Jakku? The battle must have been a monumental thrashing of the Empire, to lose 2 ships, including a SSD in one battle. Do the “rebels” have some huge weapon we don’t know about?

        1. Same landscape
It’s not. The landscape of Tatooine is often rocky and even in the Battlefront trailer, its very dark and rocky. Everything we have seen from Jakku is sandy.

        2. Same cultures, aesthetics.
We saw nothing of Jakkus culture, so saying it has the same cultures is stupid. And same aesthetics? Nope. We saw some builings and they have a different style. The clay buildings look nothing like Mos Eisley or Mos Espa, the big building in the Set photos is one giant building and a lot of nothing around, we never saw that on Tatooine.

        3. The sandcrawler
EA says it’s tatooine. We never saw a sandcrawler on Jakku.

        4. The Force Awakens panel promo photo featuring a photo of Tatooine planet.
Something that looks like Tatooine, maybe it is even Tatooine – as a placeholder.

        5. Boba Fett.
As said, the Battlefront Trailer doesn’t show Jakku but Tatooine.

And the most important of them all:

        6. JJ Abrams said it’s Jakku. Daisy Ridley said it’s Jakku. BUT… Nobody said “it’s not Tatooine, it’s Jakku.”
Not saying that something is not something else, doesn’t make it something else.

“Jakku is Tatooine. For some reason, this planet changed name.

I mean, the Empire is now called First Order, but keeps being the Empire.”

It makes no sense to change the planets name and we don’t know if the Empire keeps being the empire. We only know, that there is a “First Order”, that uses imperial equipment. It’s common that empires fall and shatter, new groups form under new banners but hold a part of the old territory and use the same weapons/armor. It also happens that a region gets a new name but thats not common, most names stay over hundreds and thousands of years, just being pronounced differently over time.

Sandcrawlers on Jakku don’t make sense unless Jawas came to Jakku to scavenge, or, maybe Jawas are native to Jakku, and had previously expanded to Tatooine… Jawa / Jakku, kinda makes sense. Maybe they scavenged something they shouldn’t have, some ancient weapon or something. I’m wondering if in this battle Han and Chewie have to abandon the Falcon, and that’s how it ends up staying on Jakku, under the command of this former admiral/officer (who has been repairing it for years), who then gives it to Rey and Finn. Because it’s fictional, you don’t invent a new planet which is exactly the same as the one appearing in almost all the films.

            Imagine Abrams and Kasdan talking:

Kasdan: “We got this new force sensitive, Rey. Where’s she living?”
            Abrams: “mmmmh, Tatooine”
Kasdan: “Tatooine, mmh. Again… We must find a good reason for that”.
Abrams: “mmh feeling lazy at the moment. Let’s just call the planet different so that it’s a new planet”

First off, it’s “Wookiepedia is YOUR friend”, Anon, lol.

Secondly, Hitler winning WW2? You really think that’s related to the origin of species native to a desert environment?

            Seriously?

No wonder you take the words of a fan-created SW “Encyclopedia” as gospel, lmao!

At any rate, I couldn’t care less about any SW-related source other than the actual films. In that sense, I’ve never seen anything on any of the 6 existing SW films to date telling me that Jawas, Tusken Raiders, Banthas, Krayt Dragons, Rancors, Eiopes, or any other creature found on Tatooine cannot be native to any other desert environment in the galaxy.

If Abrams decides to show me that any of these Tatooine lifeforms can be native to ANY other desert environment in the GFFA, I’m perfectly fine with it.

I am sorry, for me has more sense that someone like Abrams changes the name of a planet (which plotwise can work) to play with fans rather than inventing a new planet very similar to the most famous planet in the galaxy.

By the way, he and Daisy said it’s Jakku, but nobody said it’s Tatooine.

MVS is Kanan Jarrus seekig exile after failing miserably in training Ezra into fully fledged Jedi Knight (at some point in Rebels season 3 Ezra is converted to the dark side by Vader and becomes his apprentice). The rough outline of the end of rhe series is as follows: the final duel is between Kanan and Ezra + Vader and Ashoka. Vader defeats Ashoka, but Ezra struck by the cruelty of Vader turns against him, he cannot saved Tano but buys some time for Kanan to flee (for the second time in his life). Ezra is redempted but ultimately dies from the hands of Vader himself. All in all the rebels had succeeded in making the Alliance come into full force but Kanan on personal level had failed (pretty much like Kenobi in ROS). He seeks seclusion on the deserted planet and 30 years later he sees helping Rey 30 years later as a way to make things right once and for all.

I’m still thinking it’s Tatooine. The name ‘The Battle of Jakku’ doesn’t have to mean the planets name is Jakku, it’s also possible the battle took place somewhere in space and the Star Destroyer happens to crash on Tatooine. Why do we need an other desert planet if we allready have one we all love for many years. The home planet of the Skywalkers were every triology basically starts. It’s the planet we’ve seen on movie posters, the planet with the twin sunset, the cantina, mos eisley, Jabba’s Palace (or whatever is left of it, maybe Rotta is the boss now :D). The planet even appairs in SWTOR. I don’t say it isn’t possible to have a new desert planet, but I just don’t see a logical explanation to have one at the moment. It’s not like the Death Star blew up Tatooine. What’s so special about the planet it couldn’t just be Tatooine? What does Jakku have Tatooine doesn’t have? Again, I’m not saying it couldn’t happen, I just don’t see the reason about it at the moment, maybe the future explains us why.

Question: if Kylo Ren was really pretending to be Darth Vader…. Why in the world doesn’t he wear a Darth Vader mask???

    • April 21, 2015 at 4:53 am
      Permalink

Vader’s mask served 2 purposes. One: It was designed to look intimidating, even terrifying in order to invoke fear into persons and enemies of lesser stature. Two: It was designed to interface a specific way with his suit’s respiration mechanics so as to allow him to be able to breathe thoroughly enough. The former function can be achieved with any number of designs, while the latter function was of medical necessity- which, may or may not be a situation that Kylo is in physically.

Right now, I doubt that Kylo needs a mask that co-functions as part of a respirator.

    • April 21, 2015 at 11:02 pm

Most people could probably tell even with a vader mask that he is of different stature, younger, sounds different. Perhaps becoming vaders “icon” wasn’t even intentional…maybe ignorant imperials saw a ruthless man in a mask with the force and started worshiping him as vader reborn and he just went with it to gain power.

Everyone needs to calm down. It’s just a movie. First of all it’s make believe. It isn’t real. Second, who cares what planet it is? I just hope the film has a great story, good script, and is fluent throughout the movie. I, personally love 4-6, and I’m not too fond of 1-3. I hope this movie exceeds my expectations, since I’m skeptical of JJ and Disney at the moment. George said in 1977, ” I just want people to be able to watch Star wars and enjoy 2 hours in my world, so that they can get a break from the reality of their world for a while.” It’s Science Fiction people, not Science fact. As Yoda said to Luke, ” You must unlearn what you have learned.” Let your inner child out again. Just try to enjoy the film. I’m old enough to have seen all Star wars movies either 1st or 2nd day of their releases. One reason that I loved 4-6, is that the Star wars universe was much smaller and it wasn’t so enormous. You could use your imagination to transform yourself into their world, but nowadays, this generation wants bigger is better attitude…more, more, more regardless of the story. If you want to get technical, the crashed Star Destroyer is supposed to be a mile in length. It clearly isn’t. Reality, who cares. The only thing that truly matters is that the original characters stay true to their character and that the film flows smoothly with a great script.

So there’s a new desert planet that is not Tatooine. Is that so difficult a thing to accept??? Actually, I guess it is, seeing that Disney has been spoon-feeding you sugar and babying you all since October 2012… so naturally you throw a tantrum when Lucasfilm does something against your Almighty will.

And I like the idea that Jakku is Tattoine after some apocalyptic space battle, the previous power structure shattered and only scavengers and wreckage remaining.

I can’t help but feel a major new planet in the SW universe (Jakku) looking IDENTICAL to another major planet in the SW universe (Tatooine) is a bad idea from a logic point of view, a continuity point of view or just a plain imagination (or lack of!) point of view.

I think Disney/Lucasfilm have made a massive error of judgment going with this concept. It’s misguided and it doesn’t bode well for the rest of the plot. TFA may turn out to be a right stinker of a plot. Hope I’m wrong but Jakku looks hopelessly unimaginative. Zero vision from Abrams/Kasdan. A bit of imagination is needed. I see none here. Depressing.

Let’s hope the rest of the plot has some vaguely fresh/different ideas otherwise this isn’t The Force Awakens… it’s

    The Rehash Awakens

But… it… doesnt. The buildings are all cobbled together wrecks, the inhabitants wear post-apoclayptic gear instead of the humble-desert-dweller gear of tatooine.

Even the few permanent-looking structures dont seem to use the sand-stone type look of tatooine.

The native pig-animals are utterly different looking from anything on Tatooine.

On top of all that, have you considered that for the plot to happen they needed to have this planet undergo cataclysmic events? Such as star Destroyers descending from orbit.

A radical change in a planets physical and political structure would not be accepted by Star Wars fans.

Star Wars fans would lose their sh*t an view it as a literal assault on Star Wars.

Millenium Falcon Crashed on Jakku, Han and Leia put Rey in an escape pod with the plan of retrieving her, or just to save her, they survived, but couldn´t find her, and the Falcon was left there. Just by accident Rey has been brought up on Jakku, parented by MsV, and then the force has it´s way and things lead her back to where she belongs. My guess, basing what little i know from the expanded universe, I only know a tiny amount, only researching areas i thought relevant to the new film, and also based on rumours ive heard and taking form things said in the previous films,
I think that there are at least two solo kids, there were three in EU, one brother died, turning the other crazy and tipping him to the dark side. Anakin solo was also constantly haunted by sharing the name of his grandfather. The sister was left to kill her brother after he turned.
I think the characteristics of all the sibling in the new films could be demonstrates in only two siblings in this film, and i think it will be twins, the twin brother constantly huanted by his grandfather with a great fear of him, this combined with the rumours of darth plagus lead me to think that plagus could possibly return and use the twin brothers fear to brain wash him and turn him to the dark side. (yoda always said fear was a path to the dark side)

for whatever reason, possibly some falling out with the family, rey is on her own living as a scavenger, she encounters fin, poe dameron is send on a mission by royaly (confirmed) to retrieve Rey and bring her back, she being one of the only people who can restor peace

I’m wondering if Rey is of some other lineage related to the Old Rebellion Founders, like Mon Mothma’s family or Bail Organa’s family, but not Skywalker per se.
Making her the daughter of an exiled lineage that ended up somewhere out of the Empire’s priority-zone.
I’m just having trouble thinking of a convincing scenario where Leia plops her daughter on some back-back-region planet.
She knows that that didn’t really work out for Luke. She’s like literally one of the most powerful people in the Galaxy at this point so I’m just not seeing the motivation here… unless she gone and banged Wedge Antilles and [rightfully] feared Han would pull a blaster and shoot first if he found out. So there’s always that plot direction 🙂

What if Rey is fully aware of her lineage but is a runaway or has had a falling out with her family (as anon previously stated) and is out sowing her wild oats so to speak? Just because she lives on a desert world in solitude doesn’t necessarily mean she is not related to the Skywalkers/Solos or that she is and is unaware. She may be on Jakku by choice or even possibly running an undercover operation for the Resistance. The possibilities are endless and it excites me.

Even more important – after years in the academy no one ever noticed he is a pacifist who hates killing people? I mean – no soldier material at all? Here on Earth we know it in days or weeks. But Finn is a Stormtroper! And he hates firing at people! Wow! 🙂

He’s probably not a pacifist, he probably was just deluding himself that he was on the good side until he saw an entire village of people murdered with flamethrowers by some sith Zelot to find a random lightsaber and realizes- crap- these people are coocoo for coco puffs, I’m joining the sane side. The empire was (albeit deceptively) voted for and accepted as the legitimate government, so it makes sense some people saw them as the good guys and saw the space-station bombing rebels as terrorists.

What if Kylo Ren has a double identity ?
Sometimes we see him as a normal person without knowing it’s him.
Maybe he’ll have a mask on throughout the movie…and then, maybe for ep8, we finally get to discover his true identity.

Kind of Superman/Clark Kent thing maybe ?

Right from the start, I’ve thought this. In Ep 7,
Kylo will never remove his mask, so we won’t really know who he is. Meanwhile, Adam Driver maintains his x-wing character alias, and everyone is none-the-wiser.

I agree! I like the double identity idea for kylo. Definately better than someone who is just evil for evils sake. definately would add a little more intrigue into the story and make it feel different from vader. Just hope they don’t have him say “no! I am your brother” or “No! I am your son” for the big reveal… That would be dumb.

But we already knew Palpatine would become Emperor from the OT, and they really didn’t hide the “twist.”
This is a new character, so why introduce us to him as Kylo if he is hiding his identity in the film? It would be a closer analogy to show us Sidious before the film and call him Palpatine.
Sure, we all know Kylo isn’t really Vader, but why reveal any part of his real name now? It just seems like an odd move unless people call him that early in the film, which they could. I’m just asking why they would do it this way marketing wise – and I don’t buy the “fan rage” argument.

If he can wreak havoc on the galaxy while pretending to be Sith, then what is going to happen when the Ancient Fear gets unleashed from his Force-prison? Don’t care if its Bane or Plagueis, I just want it to be one of them. The story is shaping up nicely.

If Kylo is telling people he is Vader, then why did they tell us his real name (or part of it) so early? Do people in the film know who he is early on and say his name? Shouldn’t it be more of a mystery to us until the film comes out?

    • April 21, 2015 at 11:27 pm

Probably because crazy fans would tear the internet apart or boycott the film if they though JJ was ACTUALLY bringing vader back from the dead. Think of how mad they were just for adding a cross guard to a lightsaber. I’m sure the ruse will be revealed quite early since we all saw vader die and his redeemed ghost appear to Luke so his death not uncertain. Plus the REAL mystery is still who is under that mask and is he a solo or skywalker or someone unrelated?

I’m not saying they should call him Vader now. I’m saying don’t call him anything but “new villain” etc. before the film.
I’m also not saying the audience would think he is Vader, just that giving even part of his real name takes away the in-film persona he is supposedly creating. I’m just saying that it is odd to me that they would give a name other than one they would use for him early in the film.

All it said was the planet the X-wings were flying over was Tatooine. The star destroyer crashing in the background where Boba Fett is strongly hints at Jakku. But this is the needless issue that comes of having two desert worlds that look so much alike.

I like that Kylo is a Solo son. It fits the rhythm of the saga. Episode IX climaxing with an epic battle between brother and sister. Ending in both of their deaths.

FINALLY severing the cursed Skywalker bloodline which was created when Palpatine, using the “unnatural” powers taught to him by his master, Darth Plagues, emaculately conceives his future apprentice within a slave woman on an outer rim planet. Shmi.

And another thing about the prequels, not only are they bogged down in explaining what was going on (where as Star Wars threw you in there, into an established ‘this is how it is’ world/story – probably due to Lucas time and money restraints, but it worked) – but the actors also seem like they can’t be bothered, they have no enthusiam, it’s all ‘cardboard’ acting. Acting on valium. Acting to green/blue screen. Oh you get the gist.
