Andy Serkis Talks Star Wars: The Force Awakens and J.J. Abrams

andy-serkisIt appears that someone outside of production does know about the role of Andy Serkis in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Andy’s wife Lorraine Ashburn. In an interview Serkis mentioned that he revealed the entire plot of the movie to his wife. He also briefly talked about J.J. Abrams and the excitement about the project. Hit the jump to see how this adds up with other things Serkis has mentioned about his character.

In the article from The List a short interview with Andy Serkis is discussed, within which Serkis reveals some shocking revelations concerning who he has leaked plot details to.

“Well obviously my wife, Lorraine, you know, I’m not averse to telling her everything”

He goes on to mention how he has read through the entire script with his wife, suggesting that a greater amount of lines for his character then what was originally suggested as a “cameo.”

Now what does this all of this explicitly tell us? Not a lot, well maybe that we should direct our appetite for spoilers towards spouses and see if we can find anything there. But in a serious manner it provides food for thought. Serkis bit by bit is dropping hints in regards to the greater role of his character.

Based off just what we officially know (collected here by the Cantina’s MagnarTheGreat), outside of the rumors, Serkis has been described as a pivotal character with little screen time. But his voiceover in the teaser and the fact he has been going over the script with his wife suggests that his role may be getting kept under such secrecy for a reason.

In another interview Serkis spoke about his excitement for the movie and praised director J.J. Abrams (via Irishexaminer):

“It is certainly an exciting role and it’s a dream to be part of an incredible franchise,” he said.

“He’s such a delightful human being. When we first met, I thought, ‘This is just terrific’,” he recalled.

“He’s a brilliant director. He’s so passionate about the subject matter and he’s been wanting to bank this movie, or be involved in this franchise for years. It’s what inspired him to be a filmmaker, so to be on set with someone who has that amount of passion is deeply exciting. JJ’s gone very much for a look that emulates the original series of films for sure.”

“I’ve had a great time working with him – he’s been extraordinary. His studio is such a vibrant, creative environment – you want to live there.”

I’ll leave the speculation to the comments and as always The Cantina

I think he’s the cyborg kind of character in the hood. A master of Kylo Ren that’s holding Vader’s helmet on concept arts. Maybe that’s the new canon Plagueis?

uhm, no. that cyborg Is Kylo ren, just he won’t be cyborg, im pretty sure that was a pleriminal image eventually changed. sure that serkis is plaugesis, Bane or some ancient sith that will appear in only final scene unexpectedly

I could be completely mistaken about this but I had thought Viral had indicated that the hand wasn’t a villains.

I’m not into Plaguies though, the Muun’s are really stupid looking… not very intimidating.

That was prior to the Disney wipe of everything. It is now Legends, no longer canon.

Nobody said wipe, I am willing to bet that what they meant was it won’t %100 verbatim to the EU. Basically I believe we will see stuff from EU. Darth Plagueis already exists in official canon if any rumor that is out there thus far this is the one that made the most sense. You have to take into account that if Plagueis is reborn who better to play such a “pivotal” role than Andy Serkis himself, mocap Lucasfilm/Disney Plagueis while alive was said to be quite dark and scary, he reeked evil. His common form Hugo Damask was head of the banking clan that Palpatine used to turn the Republic into Galactic Empire which was all part of Darth Plagueis’ plan the whole time, if the lore is true. Wouldn’t it be brilliant for him to come back and claim the Galactic Empire that he built. Oh and Darth Plagueis mastered the art of Sith Achemy a lost art of the Sith and his overall knowledge of the dark side of the force would instantly make time the most evil of the Sith we have ever seen. Would make for a great plot building and excitement into Episode 8. I can’t wait!

No not bane,it’s been confirmed that Serkis will an old Sith lord, who has no love for the rule of two but so that rules out Bane, but doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not an ancient Sith lord either since they retain a certain lvl of awareness and understanding of what’s going on around them after death, but my money is on Plaguies. Only problem is Plaguies is a Munn, and Serkis said he’s not CGI in this, so I don’t know could be interesting.

This will be the worst star wars film and will ruin a beloved franchise. As the old saying goes if it is not broken don’t fix it. JJ ruined transformers and he will ruin this film. George the man Lucas the man who created and gave birth to the greatest series ever should have been the one to direct this movie. He is the only one with the true honest believable vision of the star wars universe. Disney lied to him when he sold star wars to them as they promised to allow him to write and direct any future star wars films which he had planned on doing 3 more to complete the star wars universe and when time came to it they pulled the rug and said screw you Lucas. Its a complete shame and I’m worried that my favorite universe is going to crash and burn due to idiots at Disney who are drug dealing morons.

Hahaha. Have you seen how George directs movies?! Terrible. ANH was good, but Empire and Jedi had other directors.
I can accept someone saying he should write them, but…actually, no I can’t. His dialogue is appalling.

Darth Plagueis sucks. Sidious killed him when he was drunk and asleep. Why do People want a villain that’s inferior to Sidious?

    • April 6, 2015 at 6:34 pm
      Permalink

because he’s not inferior to sidious. If he’d be the villain, that would mean that he tricked palpatine and everyone for around 50 years.

    • April 6, 2015 at 6:42 pm
      Permalink

It’s called deception. He knew he couldn’t contain Sidious’s appetite for power so decided to “leave” before their ultimate confrontation in order to focus on his search for eternal life, and to not interfere with a plan he put in motion that he now recognized he was no longer integral to the execution of anyway.

In the Plageuis book he did something similar, leaving to go work on his research. So it is not a stretch at all to think he would do this now.

I have no idea what his character could be. The only thing I can come up with is perhaps a surviving sith pure blood. Or a something non-organic from inside a sith holocron. Don`t know if they are canon.

Well Plagueis is something that George was invested in, that was almost kept secret.
Lucas got a Novelist to write a Single Book, but took a lot of trouble for NOT make a big deal about it.
Lucas was definitely planning something BIGGER for the character, using that
ONE book as a little prelude/hint.
I’m betting Plagueis was Lucas’ villain for Ep VII, which makes sense as it’s deeply rooted in the whole saga, but provides Ian McDiarmid a chance to retire {the man can’t be ol’ Sheev forever, I don’t think…}, so providing a someone to take Palpatine’s place who is potentially stronger/more pissed off is not a bad thought.

HOWEVER – KK and JJ threw out ?? % of the Lucas’ script. So who knows what the hell they’re doing!

I think JJ has created all new villains, as he did with Kylo Ren. And that Serkis’s character will be a good guy.

  • April 6, 2015 at 9:46 pm

I think he’s playing Plagueis. However you spell it. Only because the character would bridge references from ROTS. And who could be bigger than Palps? Just some random new villain with no connection to anything? If any of the rumors about kylo are true. Kylo seems more like a Darth Vader type. And someone is holding his leash. Like plagueis. But then what do I know.

“JJ’s gone very much for a look that emulates the original series of films for sure.”

Brilliant. This movie couldn’t be in better hands. Disney just needs to pay this man a fortune to do the whole trilogy. Who will do it better? Even the creator of Star Wars can’t be trusted to make these movies. Just pay JJ to do all three, and maybe we will have something that is worth watching, and doesn’t destroy the original trilogy, like the god awful stupid prequel movies.

Like Jesus, his was born out of immaculate conception, who sacrificed himself and died, and who then rose again! I bet there is some flash back to Endor to say Vader’s body was later never found or ‘stolen’! hmmm will just wait and see
