Speculation: An Outline of the Beginning of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Teaser TrailerIt’s taken a number of rumors (both plausible and outlandish) and quite a bit of speculation from all across the fandom, but it now appears that the pieces are coming together, and that with the help of Making Star Wars, we’ve got a picture of what part of the first act of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is going to look like. Minor spoilers ahead!

A long time ago, Devin Faraci reported that the movie would begin with a hand attached to a lightsaber floating through space and landing on a planet where major characters appear. While this initial rumor has since been dismissed by a number of sources, it now appears that his source was on the right track – there is a lightsaber that somehow ends up on the planet without burning up in the atmosphere (did the will of the Force get it there?), but there’s not a disembodied hand clutched to it. According to MSW’s latest report the lightsaber lands on a savanna environment, where it is discovered by a character codenamed “Naka”, who is a farmer. While inspecting the lightsaber, Naka accidentally sets it off, which causes a small fire.

LightsaberNaka takes the weapon from the fire and delivers it to an individual codenamed “The Vicar”, who MSW speculates is Max Von Sydow’s character based on a film role he had that with the same name. The Vicar then contacts the Rebel Alliance, who send Poe Dameron over to the planet to retrieve the weapon alongside BB-8  (if you remember a month ago we first reported that BB-8 is with Poe in the beginning of the film). Poe gets the lightsaber, but soon discovers that the Empire also caught wind of the message and has sent Stormtroopers after him. Poe sticks the lightsaber into BB-8’s hidden compartment and allows it to escape, while he is eventually captured by the Imperials after holding them off.

At the same time and on the same planet, a Stormtrooper squadron that Finn is a part of descends upon a village to raze it to the ground, led personally by Kylo Ren. They are met with some resistance, but many of the villagers are unarmed. Nonetheless, a number of Stormtroopers are killed in the process, including Finn’s friends. Finn objects to killing unarmed civilians, and deliberately allows a number of them to escape. Kylo Ren is displeased with this and has Finn detained on the Star Destroyer orbiting the planet for refusing to follow orders. As luck would have it, Poe is in the same brig that Finn is placed in. Poe and Finn reluctantly agree to work together to escape in order to work toward a common goal, in spite of being on opposing sides of the war. They hijack a TIE fighter in a daring escape… And they then crash-land on the surface of the planet. To be continued!

Boyega TrooperOne of our own sources has been able to vouch for this outline, but with one notable addition to the continuity of this series of events: to ensure that their escape works out, Poe and Finn cause a large explosion in the Star Destroyer, which causes the ship to fall out of orbit and crash-landed in the desert. The leaked concept art showed a downed Star Destroyer in the background of one piece, and it also shows an image of a TIE fighter that was shot down on the surface of the planet, which now seems to be the TIE fighter than Finn and Poe take in an effort to escape in. It’s likely that the above scene from the trailer takes place immediately after the TIE fighter that gets gunned down.

There’s also a note of interest from our aforementioned rumor article that ties into a recent article posted by MSW. It involves a major spoiler, so I’m going to place the discussion of that particular plot point as invisible text on an image caption in order to separate it from the rest of the article. Both stories support each other, which is why I’m including a mention of it here. If you’re willing to give away what could be a huge plot point in the movie, highlight the text below the image to take a look.

Main Villain
Our source told us that Han is not present in the final scene of the movie, and given the sequence of events that were described to MSW, it’s abundantly clear why: he’s dead. He goes out to confront Kylo Ren personally before he is killed, giving Finn, Rey, BB-8, and Chewbacca enough time to escape from the villain. This scene in the trailer is thought to take place after the group escape from him. While this is a plot thread that most people suspected would happen as soon as Harrison Ford signed onto the film, both sources support each other with this turn of events, giving both reports extra credence.

These are exciting times. Hopefully, we’ll have more on information on this situation before Celebration Anaheim takes place.

Lightsaber burns down a village….. what, a village of mud huts? I dont remember a lightsaber causing that much damage before.

But oh well, this is Disney’s world now, a word where Yoda can contact two jedi in Rebels and forget about it in favor of Luke Skywalker, the only hope.

If the lightsaber in space thing is true, it doesn’t make sense for it to be Luke’s. When Obi-Wan is killed on the Death Star, his lightsaber falls to the ground. Later, the Death Star is blown up. This is the lightsaber that should be floating around in space. Luke’s lightsaber is on Bespin somewhere. Unless an Ugnaught picked it up and threw it out some window or something.

It would be best if there wasn’t any plot involving a lightsaber in space.

lightsaber falling from space makes no sense…. but let’s all keep bashing the ridiculous (?) nature of midichlorians.

        • February 24, 2015 at 12:21 am
          Permalink

The midichlorians destroy a magical plot device of the saga. The ‘Force’ as a universal concept that was accessible by all audiences was incredibly creative and added a lot to the mystery of the saga. That went out the window with the mention of a measurable physical and genetic trait.

A lightsaber falling through atmosphere is equivalent to sound and explosions in space. Specious, but in the movie realm, kind of standard.

The issue with MakingStarWars is their reports are 20% fact based upon concept art images and now perhaps call sheets and 80% speculation posted as fact.

Just look at the recent history of MSW. First Luke is the villian, now Han “dies” because the “conversation ends”.

I have no doubt that MSW has access to “hundreds of images” (no doubt thanks to IndieRevolver.com) and has seen promotional art and received legit teaser trailer info (thanks to StarWarsUnderWorld).

This is why there is much more respect for IndieRevolver.com and MillenniumFalcon.com (who actually just post the actual images – THREE DOZEN ACTUALLY – and let you the reader decide).

Of course also much love for SW7N for their reports confirming and debunking everyone!

Right on and again. If they kill Han off it will alienate a lot of fans for future movies. The young ones might see it but for the OT folks who was the whole point of bringing the Big Three back so both fan bases would be covered. I could see Harrison working that in his contract but I was told that He wouldn’t sign unless there was another Indiana Jones with him and some other things that is why he held out the longest. This might be apart of that but again it doesn’t make sense with Disney trying to make money off of future installments? My take anyways…

Luke lops it off and it just falls away somewhere as far as I remember, so it could (just about feasibly) have ended up in space after the 2nd DS blew up. The Star Wars movies, for me, have all been fun and extremely enjoyable events that have all captured different moments of my life for the last 40 years (or so). Although I don’t think the prequels where quite as good, I have always enjoyed being a Star Wars fan and seeing the next new installment … until about the last decade or so.

Call me old fashioned, but with the birth of the internet, smart phones, and all the other new technologies that have come down the pike, I feel that there has arisen a new and ubiquitous kind of cynicism and negativity that seems to betray the true spirit of these movies.

    I think it’s sad.

Many Star Wars fans seem to be pathologically craving that first “big high” again, perhaps not realizing that their own attitude of entitlement and gratification will thwart any hope of experiencing any real joy when the movie is released.

The Star Wars films, for me, are about the excitement of experiencing something fresh and fun at the movies. Not about spying drones, plot leaks, and whether so-and-so had their lips done. The whole nihilistic gossip culture that has built up around the silicon god we call the internet has, in my opinion, jaded our entire generation.

Yet … here I am, staring at a computer screen ranting about, “When I was a boy…”

My point is. Keep loving Star Wars. Keep loving the Beatles and apple pie. But for the love of all that is holy … stop the incessant whining and nitpicking and LET THEM MAKE THE DAMN MOVIE!

it is ok for you to speak you’re mind, even though alot of people disagree with you. but it is not ok with you if someone else has a different opinion than you do? yeah..that makes sense. Cry and whine about people crying and whining…..oh the irony

Too close to home there…geez…the OP was simply saying that a lot of people here and on other sites are expecting way too much from the movie therefore no matter what their expectation of the film is it won’t be met leading to posts like yours and the ever favorite….”CH1LDH00D RU!N3D!!11!!”

Actually, you’re response to what he said is ironic … since it pretty much demonstrates exactly the kind of attitude his comment was describing.

And no one said you don’t have a right to complain, just that all the constant complaints are annoying and not true to the spirit of the movies.

I like most of the rumours I’ve heard so far, and really hope the saber falling from the sky isn’t a nuke the fridge moment.

I’m not a physics expert, and I’m willing to suspend my disbelief when it comes to spaceships that blow up planets, samurai-like wizards with laser swords, and aliens and the like.

But a small electronic device falling through a planetary atmosphere without becoming incinerated on entry bothers me for some reason. Can someone who’s more scientifically minded than me please help me understand how this can be made plausible enough to become a plot device, even for a fairly tale?

Interesting that no one says that Han Solo is shot, stabbed, decapitated etc. Sounds like his actual death is speculation.

“I wonder why The Vicar contacts the rebels about a lightsaber…This must be one hell of an important lightsaber. But why? Difficult to answer.”

Not really that difficult, WackyBantha. Supposedly the lightsaber has secret information hidden inside it, like the key to opening that evil tomb that Luke is guarding in the Dharma hatch or whatever.

The idea of a lightsaber containing secret encrypted information goes all the way back to the development of TESB, where one idea that was being considered during the early story meetings was the notion that Luke’s light saber had a crystal hidden in the hilt, with secret encrypted information on it including the coordinates of Minch Yoda’s planet.

If this rumor is true, then I’d wager it’s a red-bladed weapon that once belonged to a Sith, since it would make no sense for there to be Sith information encrypted inside the blue bladed weapon that Anakin wielded in ROTS (the one that Luke lost on Bespin).

There is leaked artwork for a “Wampa Claw Lightsaber” hilt. I expect that to be the one the film centers around.

false. real leaks may come out eventually, but this is bs. “Our sources say” is total bs. The real leaks will have something to back it up, like pictures. There will be evidence. Not a bunch of he said she said. These leaks are garbage. Concept art, sneaked photos, leaked out footage or pictures will be interesting. I don’t trust any of these “sources”

There is evidence to support the leaks but it’s watermarked with the recipients name, so the source is being protected in not providing images.

Much of the confusion over who does what is as a result of the documents being coded with pseudonyms. For instance, Kylo Renn is JK, which some sources have assumed means Jedi Knight and therefore must be Luke. Hence, Luke originally being attributed with causing the big death (Luke’s code name is in fact Original Warrior).

The lightsaber setting fire to Naka’s hut does not happen in the opening scenes.

MSW doesn’t have call sheets access they know someone who can transcribe the codes on all their “documents”

Past interpretations and transcriptions have show how amateurs are more often wrong than right.

NO STUPID FLOATING LIGHTSABER HAND PLEASE!!!

If movie really starts up with that, it’ll kill all what was left from my enthusiasm for Star Wars, which was already crushed by prequels and many “new canon” products and plans 🙁 _sigh

So this Kylo Ren….is he a ‘Darth’ or what?
I mean if not then he’s not an ‘actual Sith lord then’?

Considering Harrison Ford has said he’d only do another Star Wars or Indiana Jones movie if they agreed to kill the character off, it’s certain that Han won’t be in Episode 8.

Why are folks assuming it is specifically Luke’s blue saber? Without a hand attached to it how would we really know who’s it was? There are literally dozens of lost sabers throughout the movies- could be any one of them, or perhaps another one we’re introduced to.

Another thing- I’d much rather see Han get killed off in some heroic way now than see him become so old and pathetic that he is no longer able to be an action hero.
