And this is Star Wars… how?
Why do they have to make Imperials look like morons every time? I’m disappointed. 🙁
I think it’s still pretty early to tell if Imperials will act like “morons” all the time, given that we’ve only seen, like, fifteen minutes of footage tops of a show that has at an entire season ahead of it and most likely several seasons after that. In general, it seems like the higher-ranking people of the Empire are more competent, and you honestly shouldn’t expect newly-recruited Stormtroopers to be very threatening.
Why not?
We expect newly recruited Marines to be threatening.
That remenbers me Commander Cody´s diary at TFU2, where he says that the new stormtroopers are so stupid that he saw one cadet hitting his head into a door at the training grounds of Kamino, and also states that he would kill 10 stormtroopers to gain one single clone trooper xS
UUUUUUU-RAAH!!!
Pomojema, That’s very true, I’m a huge OT fan, and was kind of excited to have a Cartoon show based off of that theme. The animation seems pretty Low Budget, especially compared to the Clone Wars, which I never really even saw. I hope the episodes will be better than these promos!
“and you honestly shouldn’t expect newly-recruited Stormtroopers to be very threatening.”
Seriously?
What, is the Stormtrooper Training Academy like a walk in the park, or something? Are recruits allowed to graduate at random? Don’t they have to pass like real tough trials, given that they’ll be in charge of keeping worlds full of much more dangerous creatures than humans (Wookies, anyone?) in line before activation amongst the ranks?
In other words, yes; I honestly expect newly recruited stormtroopers to be as threatening as their older, much more experienced colleagues.
I’m crossing my fingers that this show fails and gets canciled as fast as possible. Disney needs to be taught a lessen, here. I’ve seen enough to know its for fucking 3 year olds. Not cool Dave Filoni, not cool at all dude. What happened to you .You should have learned something when the clone wars movie failed. The series was excellent. Now , you’ve lost your magic.
She’s a tagger! And a bomber! Will she pull of any End to end burners?
Star wars 7 news right….
That is the name of the website…
Nah this is rebels… not sw7
It’s still Star Wars related… If it bothers you, then don’t read it and browse for something else.
Rebels stinks.
It’s not even out yet!
Talon Karrde is one of my favorites.
Your wrong. THIS is not star wars at all.its related to the power puff girls.
Still cant hit a door if it was right in front om them…
They can hit it, but with their heads (ANH) 😉
You’re such a dork,Viral Hide. I was a fool to trust your avatar. 😛
Silly stormtroopers, silly graffiti, silly sabine character colors, silly character’s movements, silly characters definition…silly scene.
So the TIE gets blown to bits, stormtroopers survive standing right next to it… Uhuh.
From the moment Zeb talks to Ezra from inside a Tie Fighter by just shouting, surprised you shouldn’t be.
And to think, in ten years, this show’s target demographic will be old enough to reach the keyboard in order to express their views on the new Star Wars stuff.
I suppose they’ll be clamoring for a 5 year old advanced weapons expert…supreme!
You let toddlers watch people get shot in the head or blown up with explosives? I think you have bigger issues than a SW show.
The stormtroopers don’t really sound like they’re communicating over radio. Overall, it’s better than I thought.
Pain, souffering, death I feel.
After this I see, fucked up, this show, is.
I think this show will be much better than the clone wars(which isn’t saying much) but I really dislike this pink boba fett character. Super cheesy
You can’t be serious.
This show is likely going to be a childish mess. The Clone Wars, especially the later seasons, had very dark stuff going on – now we’re getting lighthearted stuff aimed at young children supposedly taking place during “the dark times”. Sigh. I know that the stormtroopers were hardly any good in the movies, but this show just downgrades them even more. (This should be proof enough that they’re not clones, if the different voices weren’t enough yet)
Not that I’m a huge fan of this show, but c’mon. Stuff is bad if it’s lighthearted but great if it’s dark? That’s stupid. ANH was not at all much dark and that’s the reason we’re here. Let’s judge the story on it’s own merits and not just by how “dark” it is.
“A New Hope was not at all much dark”, you’re so wrong about that.
Even as a kid, I felt Empire was the “dark” film, not ANH.
Qui-gon gets a lightsaber through his gut and Maul gets sliced I half but I wouldn’t call TPM “dark”.
A New Hope wasn’t dark?
What exactly was lighthearted about the burned corpses of Luke’s Aunt and Uncle?
Aunt and Uncle’s death , Obi Wan’s death , Biggs Darklighter’s death , Alderaan , Princess Leia being tortured, The cantina , Captain Antilles’s death, All those rebel pilot’s deaths.
So practically it was a massacare. 🙂
Actually I never thought about the movie as dark, but it indeed is.
Billions died in Star Wars Episode 4 A New Hope.
armies of people also died in Guardians of the Galaxy, and we were all laughing through that one.
Star Wars is not a action comedy.
The dark is not mesured by the number of deaths, is mesured by the fight of the mind, the dialogs, the environments and colors that surround all of them.
So ANH is not dark
ESB is dark
@ Anonymous August 18, 2014 at 21:04 PM
You may have a point there, although I’d argue that ANH did have some dark moments.
In any case, ANH certainly wasn’t a lighthearted romp.
I suppose you think Babe and Frozen and Willy Wonka were dark films too, then?
ANH is hardly in the same category.
When was the last time you actually sat down and watched ANH?
Last night, smarty pants.
Compared to the PT, ANH is a lighthearted romp.
Valid points. This cartoon definitely looks more watered down than the OT, but by “dark” what I meant was an overall more mature tone like Aliens or Space Odyssey, darker Science Fiction. Even though it had it’s adult themes mixed in it, it still felt more like a fun Sunday cartoon adventure than it did a “dark” film.
I take Rebels as what it is: a children’s cartoon. Just like the old Droids series was. The Droids series also was a lighthearted show taking place during the dark times. And back then it also was part of the then current canon. I will enjoy Rebels, although in a very different way that I will enjoy Episode VII (at least, I HOPE I will enjoy both).
But, since I’m far more mature now than when I originally saw Droids (back in the 80’s), surely I’ll be glad if the tone gets a bit darker like the latest The Clone Wars seasons.
That won’t happen.
I agree 100% with you. Some parts have looked promising, others haven’t. But in general it just looks like an alright show for kids. The only part that concerns me is that they stated this is now official canon, so who knows what they’ll introduce.
The animation is so outdated… And the dialoque along with the continuity, is of 4 year olds playing with their action figures.
There’s no need to make such shows levelled down in intelligence for kids. We all grew up with adult content, and had no issues understand it then, so why dumb it down for the present young generation?
She’s so hip.
But how can she be hip? She isn’t a replica of a Ralph McQuarrie painting and the color pink is practically evil!!! EVIL!!!!
Pink isn’t evil. Just stupid in this particular context.
What’s the beef with McQuarrie anyway?
Why is it stupid? I thought Fandalorians were all about individual armor design. Or was just bs, like half the stuff I read on SW boards, anyway?
Pink in this context is stupid because she’s trying to fight a guerrilla rebellion. It’s a loud color that screams; “Hey! Look at me!”
That’s not exactly the kind of color you want to be wearing in that situation, which is why folks engaging in guerrilla warfare generally wear muted colors and/or camouflage. To blend in with their surroundings and be less of a target.
They show these scenes of her darting and hiding behind TIE fighter wings, or using secret hand signals to communicate, but what’s the point when you have this teenager wearing an outfit that is screaming to be looked at and paid attention to?
It’s just dumb on every level.
Crap. I was waiting for one of the storm troopers to run in mid air like Wiley Coyote. Silly, way to unrealistic both in animation and humour. Just plain silly, gosh, I still feel stunned after watching it. The good guys always win with such ease and make the stupid bad guys look funny with egg on their faces that it takes away any challenge. The protagonists have nothing to battle against. There is no sense of tension if they have nothing to lose. BAD STORY TELLING.
When I read people using the term “disnification” of Star Wars, I usually see their examples as not being any different then what we have already seen in the movies and TV shows. But Sabine…yes, I can not deny it here. Disnification, chickification, any other fic you want to add it’s pathetic especially given she’s supposed to be some kind of mandalorian. Glad I don’t subscribe to the notion of “canon” or it might really bother me. Ha!
When I was eight, and Star Wars a new hope first hit the theatres, I saw it 18 times. I fell in love with it, even sat outside the theatre and listened to it because I couldn’t get in once. I fell in love with it as a kid because it had hero’s, real hero’s that sacrificed everything, took on huge odds and came out winning even though the bad guys were so monstrous and the odds were stacked against them. This show is empty of any real good story telling. It won’t be loved the way my generation fell in love with Star Wars. It will be watched and then the channel will be changed and it will be forgotten just like that. Simply because it has nothing memorable. So please don’t tell me it’s just a show for kids. This kid saw a story on the big screen and it changed his life forever. It inspired me, made me think, made me imagine. Kids won’t remember this garbage later on. Come on Disney!!! Get some good story tellers on staff! Produce something that is memorable. This stuff is right down there with “Honey! Wheeeeeeere are my paaaaaants?
I hate how you OT fanatics feel the urge to tell the world how many times you saw A New Hope as a kid and how it changed your life. Honestly, I don’t give a damn about your childhood.
I hate it when a person refers to someone as an “OT fanatic”.
It’s the way the younger generation lashes out apparently.
While OT fans criticize the PT, the PT fans it seems can’t handle it and lash out at the OT fans for not liking the movies they do.
It’s weird.
It’s equally weird how crusty neckbeards trip over themselves trying to out-do each other being at the premiere in 1977, like it’s a badge of f-ing honor. Maybe you just need a different franchise to parasite off of. SW is obviously not enough to compensate for your empty, joyless life.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Case in point…
I hate when snotty little sh*t for brains express there dull mindless opinions.
Whoa.
I’m gonna laugh when this show takes off and Weisman pulls out the strong characterization he’s known for and you end up looking like a tool.
Yeah? What if it doesn’t?
The old “No true Scotsman” fallacy on display, I see. Can you get more pretentious about a show not even aired? I’ll be happy if Rebels delivers a compelling story that doesn’t require cow-towing to crotchety old geezers whining that every new SW isn’t ANH 2.0, or that we need a Luke/Leia/Han story for the umpteenth time.
Wow. There’s no sense of danger at all. It’s just pure coddling of the audiences already smug, inflated, and toddler-like heroic projection of themselves. It looks not as smart as the Clone Wars.
Don’t be so quick to judge.
The Empire might be shaking in their collective boots at the thought of a dreaded art attack!
Sabgine will make Jar Jar Binks look like Hamlet.
The charcter is so stupid it’s embarassing.
So Star Wars is safe now that it’s out of George Lucas’ hands…right?
To all the people who said “give Rebels a chance. it will be better than you think…” may THIS be your answer.
Hm? The seven minute teaser sequence was better than this and from the first actual episode, not a short. So I’m not sure who you’re addressing or what your point is. They seem to improve.
Except that they don’t.
at the end i was like wow okay i guess thats pretty cool, she blew them up and they all died. Then they go back to the troopers…and it was a paint bomb…i had high hopes for rebels but this “short” was just so stupid. Those troopers could have killed her so many times but instead they just stand there and listen to sabines witty dialogue if you can even call it that
Yeah, the scene is horribly contrived.
It hurts us, eck “gollum” eck “gollum”.
Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.
Anyone notice how the Imperial Citizen at the beginning looked a lot like Ralph McQuarrie’s original design for Luke Skywalker?
No.
What I did notice was trained Stormtroopers being unable to detain or target a 16 year old wearing bright pink.
Ha ha ha.
He reminded me more of Jango Fett.
This will damage the original trilogy a lot more than the prequels did, now i’m officially worried about episode VII. If J.J. messes up then I’m organising a mass hate campaign outside his house.
> Organizing a mass hate campaign (Hang on, what?) over an intellectual property regarding a fictional universe.
There are more important things to get angry about, just saying.
I have to agree.
There’s no reason to march and chant over disatisfaction with a TV show.
In this board the day you spend, Pomojema. A whale saver you are not.
Did I ever claim to be a great philanthropist? All I was saying is that threatening to bring harm to someone over a fictional story is the textbook definition of taking it too far.
Pomojema is correct on this point without question.
Remember everyone! It’s canon!
Remember everyone, you don’t have to watch it if you don’t want to! Nobody is forcing you to!
Thats great advice, thanks.
Did someone say that we were required to watch it?
Of course someone said we were required to watch it: Disney.
I warned everyone when they were gloating that they’d hate the new canon more then the old one. Point for me.
Remember everyone, loves to bitch and complain about something.
Not much to say about this show that hasn’t already been said. Childish, immature, silly, ridiculous, wacky and more reminiscent of Loony Toons that Ralph McQuarrie’s work and the OT. Someone please tell me why this is canon.
D-I-S-N-E-Y
As if Star Wars wasn’t goofy before Disney
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBlhgAkJBos
Yipyyyyy!!!!
Not to mention the animated Droids and Ewoks series. Yes, Star Wars did have goofy aspects to it before Disney, but the buyout was supposed to symbolize new beginnings for the franchise and the fans; a new hope, so to speak. They had the chance to make the chronology interesting, adventurous and fun for all ages to enjoy, instead we get this… To me this series is evidence that the franchise has only been going downhill. Episode VII, we’re all counting on ya.
Dave Filoni is a joke. Disney, hire a good writer for christ sakes. You had a chance to create a TV show that appeals to everyone of all ages and instead you make this cheap garbage.
Filoni may not be entirely to blame here. Remember, he’s a Disney employee now.
Sabine and her antics stink much more of an executive decision, rather than a creative one.
I got a bad feeling about this……..
Personally I don’t think we should compare it to the movies… It’s a cartoon aimed at kids. Yes there is some violence but what would a good cartoon be without some. Personally I think it’s fantastic and if this little short is anything like what the series and the new trilogy will be about I’m going to be DVRing each week.
Ummm…….
Wiley Coyote, anyone? That was totally a Looney Tunes cartoon.
Well… it’s DEFINITELY a children’s show, but I’ll be watching it anyhow. And I’m not going to pick it apart – it is what it is… A little something to make the next year and a half a little less agonizing!
a little less agonizing or a little more?
Just because a show is made for children dosen’t mean it can’t be fantastic. Batman: The Animated Series (1992–1998) achieved that goal, this show is not even close.
Great! Now I’m even more disappointed.
Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra is a more modern example. Silly, kid-friendly, but also genuinely funny with interesting story arcs, cool characters, and maybe the best action sequences of any “Western”-made animated series.
Great example! Just because something is”made for kids” doesn’t mean it can’t be smart and creative. It’s a weak excuse for lazy story telling.
Good thing no one connected to Rebels has said anything about it being “just for kids”. Look at the extended trailer. Looks like there are lots of good stories coming up.
People freaking out over a PROMOTIONAL spot for a show promotionally geared first hand at kids, shouldn’t base their entire opinion on a show that hasn’t aired on 15 total minutes of footage we have seen. All out of context, continuity and also unfinished. You all are just grumpy fools jumping to a bitch fest because you think on a pessimistic level. And case in point one of the biggest people behind avatar the last air bender (which was absolutely an amazing cartoon and show period) was Dave filoni. The writers and directors of this show all have damn good merits, and I hesitate to judge souly on a clip that is an obvious marketing tool to grab kids attention. The clone wars had the same crap kiddy marketing and fears attached to it, but it turned out pretty friggin good. If you don’t think so, then I’m assuming you probably didn’t watch but one episode or none at all. In which case you are missing out.
The Clone Wars didn’t have a 16 year old advanced weapons expert supreme wearing bright pink.
Honestly, you don’t have to watch the entirety of the show to see that the above sequence is contrived and silly.
Grumpiness, foolishness, and bitchiness have nothing to do withg anything. It’s about the material we have seen thusfar.
Honestly, freaking out and criticizing the material are two entirely different things. You’re over reacting to the negative criticism.
P.S. Avatar sucked. It was better when it was Dances With Wolves.
> Confusing James Cameron’s Avatar with the anime-inspired Nickelodeon cartoon. In 2014, nearly a decade after the show first aired.
Git gud, son.
Yeah, let’s compare two 3 minute shorts with a multi-year tv franchise. Obviously an equal playing field.
It’s just a short. It’s probably meant as a “fun” way to introduce the character, not create dramatic tension. At least, I hope–it was way to silly.
Anyway, question regarding the films: do we ever see any landed or docked TIEs in the movies, and if so, do they just stand on their foils like that?
From what i have seen TIEs aren’t supposed to land like that.
ROTJ matte paintings show TIEs docked in the Death Star landing bay.
To answer my own question (I just double-checked): I just found that in ANH, when Han enters the room full of stormtroopers, we can indeed see a TIE fighter in the background that looks like it is indeed just standing on its foils. (Maybe it’s *hanging* on its foils, it’s hard see, but either way, the foils are supporting its weight.)
OTOH, in the opening of ROTJ (when Vader arrives on the DS2), we see a TIE bomber that’s hanging from something attached to the cockpit rather than the foils.
Folks, see the bright side (pun intended). At least we got rid of those “stooges” battle droids & annoying Jar Jar Binks! Also, I am happy to see some colours in a dark time. Should this be a message for all of us to be joyful & not act as negative creeps =)
But i excel at being a negative creep.
Finally, something you said that is correct.
Aw, you’re cute too.
I know. It’s not hard.
LoL!
I’ve been holding out hope for this show, but with every new clip I see, It looks more like a pile of steaming hot garbage. Everything about this clip is a train wreck. I just can’t buy this character. The armor seems to be considered only as far as to pander to women. Don’t tell me that you want to create strong female characters and then parade them around in nonsense fashion armor and give them a fluff part. Get some damn neck armor at the very least
God these responses are hilarious! Since Episode I debuted SW fans have had one response to everything: I Don’t Like It! LOL. Everyone said the same about TPM and then we got RotS. The same about TCW and then we got all the great stuff that came after the “movie”. Now that George is retired Disney is the Devil of SW. You guys are hilarious! Filoni’s good, the show will be good, give it more than 15 minutes of unconnected clips before you judge. If ANH was brand new and all we had was clips, say: the Droids in the desert, Luke whining about Tosche Station and Stormtroopers missing at point blank range – you’d all be saying the same exact thing. At least wait till you’ve seen a whole episode or two before having a Fan Meltdown.
Spot on!
We will all watch it to fill the void and we need to view it in the correct context.
Duke Groundrunner, After browsing your comments you are obviously trolling this site and abusing those who do not agree with you 100%. Star Wars is not a religion, it is a movie, and a cartoon… If you don’t agree drop it and go away.
You haven’t been on this site for that long have you?
Long enough to know better but not so long as to give a damn.

I’m not sure if you fully appreciate the delicious irony in your statement.
To appreciate irony is not.
I know Dekka129 is still around, but what ever happened to these guys “Numb Renditions, dopeyjoe, dandino8100, WackyBantha, R3GARnator, Fettman, insiderjokevids, Forever_
The forum is almost ready. I hope to see all these names there. You guys will love it…
Dopeyjoe is still around, Duke.
My bad. Sorry dopeyjoe.
The forum?
Yeah, it’s nearly ready. You didn’t think we were just going to leave a giant blue “FORUM” link up there without actually linking to anything, didja?
Dandino8100 writes articles for the site.
I’m assuming we get to register with the forum? So I can finally have an icon and a permanent name!? Sweet. I don’t know why this system never connected with facebook for me.
You could make a google plus account.
@ Adavanter
There was an issue before with Facebook but I thought we fixed it. Have tried connecting with FB recently?
Yeah I tried before I even replied. For whatever reason Facebook wont connect with me. It’s just an endless cycling of connecting.
I looked it up on wordpress’s actual site and they recommended the usual. Cookie deletion etc. I went through the steps and it just refuses. Not sure what’s wrong but it’s probably just on my end. User error 😛
Seriously cannot believe all the negative comments on here, and how damn SERIOUS everyone is taking everything. Have fans really become so attached to the grim and serious prequel era that they’ve forgotten how fun and jokey SW actually used to be?
And what is up with this reverence for the Stormtroopers? They were never exactly the most fearsome enemy in the OT, and were often easily killed. And so far it looks like Rebels is simply staying true to that spirit.
Yes. Only positive comments should be allowed.
Finally, Stormtrooper armor is useful. I like the shorts, but the actual episodes probably have more meat to them. Trust the fandom to foam at the mouth, as usual.
@Anon, re: the stormtrooper armor being useful (it’s better than useful it will keep those pesky Imperial Troopers alive far longer than anyone expects). Seriously! 🙂
As I (and others) have mentioned before, there is a lot of West End d6 RPG stuff in Rebels, and for those of you who have played the d6 RPG you know exaclty where I am headed with Stormtrooper Armor. Stormtrooper Armor was great at keeping Imperial Troopers alive but not necessarily conscious. Some of the player characters (PC’s) believed that there were only a few hundred stormtroopers in the galaxy and that they were never really killed in combat (just the same damn few hundred troopers chasing us around the galaxy, over and over again).
Why the same 300 troopers you ask? Because basic weapons (starter weapons) had a hard time “killing” troopers in Stormtrooper Armor! In all honesty basic weapons in the d6 RPG would only knock the stormtroopers down (eg incapacitated) and would not kill them most times. And of course at the end of each game session I would have to cut to a scene where the majority of the stormtroopers would get up (very similar to the end of the Rebels video lol) and be like “Damn, what hit us!? Did we loose TK-115? Ummm … let’s see … nope he’s fine … just needs a new helmet.”
So we ran a d6 campaign and the secondary objective (which soon became the primary objective) was to see how long it would take to kill/assassinate 100x stormtroopers. We of course had to infiltrate an Imperial Base, steal some secret Imperial Tech (blueprints), and oh yeah take out those pesky stormtroopers! One of the funnest campaigns ever … especially when each “kill” had to be confirmed! And oh yeah, it took much longer than anyone expected … and lost 1 PC and 2x NPC’s in theprocess!
Those Stromtroopers are a lot tougher to take out (with armor) than most people know!
As you can imagine I lol’d when the stormtroopers got up at the end of the video! good times!
Just my 2 credits.
Criticizing the show, and foaming at the mouth are two entirely different things.
I think you’re overreacting to the show’s criticism.
Filoni really needs to take his cowboy hat and leave..
This is sad. I do not miss “dark”, but I miss sensible scenes: the dialog is contrived, and she should be getting shot a million times. The one trooper who approaches from behind has his laser on “stun” as evident by the circular blasts as he falls down – why does he even speak to her before shooting for crying out loud?
While the good guys move at light speed, the “storm troopers” are just ridiculous, making my interest in the show vanish with ludicruos speed.
He speaks to her before shooting to give her a chance to be spunky, sassy, and/or feisty.
I’m leaning towards the theory that this show is just meant for children under 7 and is meant to widen the age range of Star Wars fans to create hype for the new films.
I wouldn’t worry too much about what JJ is doing with Episode VII though. Look at all of the great movies that he’s done. He had a lot to do with Lost, as well! I love that show.
We should all stop worrying and accept that this show is just meant for little kids. But me personally, based on the previews that I have seen of this show. It doesn’t remind me of A New Hope… AT ALL. That pink mandolorian needs to go. Dave Filoni, what the heck do you think you’re doing? And keep in mind, I’m 16. I didn’t see A New Hope when it was originally released, as my parents did. I watched A New Hope for the first time on laserdisk back in 2000.
You know what would be great? If Rebels was more like the comic book series “Dark Times”. This show looks terrible.
You watched a new hope on LD when you were 2 and you remember it?
Briefly remember it, yeah. I remember that scene where Owen and Beru were found all burnt up used to scare the shit out of me. Hahaha
If you want to reach children under 7 just give it the gravitas of the original Star Wars. It worked on me.
Holy shit can everybody just calm the fuck down its a tv show that’s airing on freakin disney channel it’s supposed to be light hearted if you don’t like the show because of it than don’t watch it just focus on episode 7. JJ Abrams said himself that the movies would be sort of dark like empire strikes back so don’t worry.
I hope they kill that pink mandalorian disney princess within the first 5 episodes, this is such a sexist way to show a strong female hero. I feel this will be a horrible show!
