UPDATE! Star Wars Rebels: WonderCon 2014 Exclusive Clip & Interview With Composer Kevin Kiner.

This special Star Wars Rebels preview clip, which premiered at WonderCon 2014, features an introduction from voice actress Vanessa Marshall and an exciting sequence from the upcoming animated series…

Hera, captain of the Ghost, pilots her starship during a battle with two TIE fighters. Chopper delivers a message from Kanan, currently engaging the TIEs in the top turret. The Jedi is apparently displeased with Hera’s maneuvering. In response, she takes matters into her own hands…

UPDATE!

The official Star Wars youtube page was updated with yet another new video. It’s an interview with TCW and Star Wars: Rebels composer Kevin Kiner:

Kevin Kiner, composer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, returns to a galaxy far, far away with the upcoming Star Wars Rebels animated series. In this exclusive interview, he discusses his writing process, musical background, and previews the theme for Lucasfilm’s new show.

Looking back at his first involvement with Star Wars, Kiner says that it was daunting to follow John Williams. But it was invigorating, as well, and continues to be with his new work on Star Wars Rebels. He grew up playing rock n’ roll in garage bands, and melded that sensibility with classical on Star Wars: The Clone Wars — and will do so again on Star Wars Rebels. Tone-wise, the music for Star Wars Rebels “will have a different sound,” he says. “It’s going to be a little closer to A New Hope than Clone Wars was. Now, to be able to go back and start using John’s themes in different ways is exciting for me.”

Kiner also shows off some his own string-instruments, including the cello-like guitar viol, which he plans to use on the new series. Finally, he demos the Star Wars Rebels theme, which builds in complexity and incorporates classic Star Wars melodies. At the piece’s end, Kiner is excited, saying, “And we have a new generation of Star Wars.”

The battles are so intense in this show, it’s going to suck all the goodness out of these kinds of dogfight space battles. By the time December 2015 rolls around, we’re all going to be saying “been there, done that.” The fact that the Ghost looks and moves just like the Millennium Falcoln doesn’t help either.

Oh congratulations dandino!!!!!!! So technically you are a Jedi Master now. Or are you a Jedi Knight? Well, whatever you are, you finally fulfilled the prophecy. And the prophecy states…

“A young man with the heart of a giant lizard shall bring balance to the site of many posts, and shall work along side the Grand Master.”

      Congrats again Dandino!

Looks a lot better in action than it does in stills. Doesn’t look as cartoonish as I was thinking it might. Looking forward to it.

Oh, it’ll be cartoonish. Just wait till we see the clip of Ezra and his light slingshot.

Chopper is definitely the chosen one. This clip says it all. Think about it.

I absolutely loved everything about the Clone Wars, but the animation “style” had transparent budget limitations which particularly stood out in lightsaber fights. The characters’ movements stopped after each contact, there wasn’t enough impact and follow through action. If this short clip is any indication, the animation has been vastly improved! I’m very psyched about it!

Yes. Looks very OT. Nothing surprised me at all. Even the explosions looked taken out of IV. Hopefully VII won’t butt-kiss OT fans this badly and will try to go for a more original look.

What even is original look? It’s Star Wars, both PT and OT. If the artists what the OT feel let them. Since they already said the show highly influenced by the OT. It’s not a competition here. PT had it’s glory days with a cartoon. Now let OT have it’s fun.

How come it seems like there wont be luke, han or leia in it?

Please tell me they will be in it.

It makes sense for Leia to be in it, since she was already involved with the Rebellion at the beginning of IV. But Han is busy smuggling with Chewy, and Luke is stuck as a farmer on Tatooine.

Han was not part of the Rebels. Nor was Luke. Their first step into the rebel alliance is when we first meet them in A New Hope. Leia on the other hand would make sense and I’d be very open to see that. Only if voiced by Carrie Fisher of course 😉

I don’t know if Carrie could voice someone young these days. Her voice has just changed too much for various reasons.

I don’t like the character designs and ideas but I will say the animation itself is extremely good and much more life like compared to the decent yet stiff and wooden animation of clone wars.

      Lowhumming

      Op here.
What I thought they could do is show Luke as kid or teen. Show his fascination with being a fighter pilot. You could also show obi wan mentoring him here and there. That would be awesome. Also throughout the series you could show him entering in races as he pilots the T16 Sky hopper.

For Leia you could show her as an up and coming pollution conducting secret missions for the rebels.

For Han you could see him getting out of bad situations by the skin of his teeth as a smuggler. You could show a lot about Han. How he meets chewy. How he won the Falcon form lando. Show his home world of corellia. At the same note you might even introduce wedge since he is from corellia too.

I understand that there may not be enough information about them to the main focus of the series but they should not be excluded either.

I could see them putting in cameos… but that’s about it. Nothing too big.

Why would they need Carrie? It’s not like Clone Wars used McGregor or Portman, they used voice actors. Mark Hamill, on the other hand, is an accomplished voice actor. It would be really cool if he had a recurring role or cameo as some other character.

With the advances in CGI, the day may come when they can take all the episodes of the Clone Wars and this new show and run them through the computer once more, producing what looks indistinguishable from live-action drama. Just fill in more detail …

If i am honest i don’t have high hopes for this show, every clip i have seen bears the same flaws as the prequel trilogy. When will Lucas Arts learn that the humour should be subtle and not forced upon you……..the curse of Jar Jar lives on

I didn’t know Astromech Droids could jump up and spin around like that then roll off on one leg..

They should have done Star Wars: Reclamation instead. I really liked the concept art and the fact that it didnt look like it was soley marketed to 8 year olds.
