Meet the New Face of Evil from Star Wars: Rebels! Updated with More Images.

rebels

This is the Inquisitor, tasked by Darth Vader himself to hunt down the remaining Jedi Knights. Star Wars: Rebels will take place 14 years after Episode 3 and 5 years before Episode 4…

The official press release from StarWars.com:

The panel at NYCC, hosted by Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo, focused on the Empire and how it is central to the story of Star Wars Rebels. Hidalgo revealed that the series takes place about 14 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, a time in which the Emperor’s rule is secure and the Empire is seeking to expand its power to Outer Rim territories. That leads Imperial forces to Lothal, a poor planet that initially welcomes the Empire on the promise of security and prosperity. It soon becomes obvious, however, that the Empire does not have Lothal’s best interests at heart, as the Imperials exploit its people and begin recruiting young citizens to join TIE fighter and Stormtrooper academies, or to work in the Sienar Fleet Systems factory — which builds TIE fighters — in the planet’s capital. Hidalgo showed new art focusing on Lothal, including the planet itself, a town, and alleyways, as well as an Empire recruitment poster.

The show is fully embracing the Star Wars legacy, taking direct inspiration from the original trilogy and its concept artist Ralph McQuarrie. Hidalgo displayed new Star Wars Rebels imagery and animation models for Stormtroopers, Star Destroyers, TIE fighters, and TIE fighter pilots, all of which fit seamlessly with classic Star Wars. Additionally, Hidalgo introduced several new Imperial vehicles and designs created for the series: the All Terrain Defense Pod (AT-DP), a ground attack walker based on an early Joe Johnston (the filmmaker who designed Boba Fett’s armor and speeder bikes, and made other major contributions to Star Wars) illustration from 1979; the new AT-DP pilot, which blends designs of the classic AT-AT walker driver from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and the AT-ST walker pilot from Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi; the Imperial Troop Transport, which comes from an early Kenner toy that was actually not based on designs from the films; and the Imperial freighter, a reimagining of an Imperial-style craft designed for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace by concept artist Doug Chiang, featuring a dock to transport TIE fighters from system to system.

Is the villain a Pau’an? I love tion medan and think that that species looks so awesome. Hope they use similarly cool species in star wars episode 7.

Not sure how I feel about that yet, but I’m a bit concerned while trying to remain excited. I was hoping the show would focus on Vader himself hunting down the Jedi, and I don’t want there to be so many Jedi around the time of ANH since Tarkin says they are “all extinct.” That implies they have been wiped out for a while. I really dig the OT looking ships and stormtroopers though.

as long as we get to see vader sometimes, he does not need to have a big role, at least we should see him giving the incusitor orders in hologram transmission, that would actually be enough for me, a big vader head giving orders, , because maybe it will look strange to see an animated vader move around…

hmmmm, if Vader is in it, then who will voice him? Imitating James Earl Jones is not an easy task, even cooler though if they got him to do it himself, if vader only has a small role, then it would not take up too much of his time

Mat Sloan is the voice of Vader now, most video games and such use him

Not going to lie… just seeing all the old stuff has me way more interested in this series than Clone Wars. To be fair had the prequels rocked hard I may have been more interested but well… you know. No need to bring that old wound up.

Nothing but a bright future ahead. *fingers crossed*

    Huh.

Does this put a kink in the Only Two Sith rule?

Who said anything about the Inquisitor being a Sith? He has a double-ended saber, yes, but Ventress had sabers too and she wasn’t a Sith; she was merely a Nightsister assassin.

Did anyone say anything about the Inquisitor not being a Sith?

So what if he is a Sith?

What does that do to the Only Two rule?

It adds one. Only supposed to be two. A Master and an Apprentice. The Rule of Two.

Don’t ask me where I read it from coz I can’t remember, BUT seems like they are changing the Rule of Two and its not a recent article.

I didn’t follow the The Clone Wars closely but wasn’t there a “rule” change with Anakin having an apprentice?

I’m glad to see the Rule of Two retconned. Only two Sith being able to exist in the entire galaxy at any one time really made for kind of a boring scenario. It completely precludes any possibility of having a Jedi army fight a Sith army. Glad to see it go.

Easy answer. It came from a book… aka subject of debate if it’s really canon. When it comes to the movies and series… only they are canon and honestly… who knows with the series what’s canon or not either.

actually, the rule of two doesnt mean that there are only two dark siders who have force abilities. The sith will use anyone with force abilities, basically the idea is you have a Sith Master and a Sith Lord(apprentice). Ventress was not a sith, but obviously trained in the arts.

Does that mean Foce Unleashed is not canon anymore?

I would be happy to forget about Force Unleashed II (as I would for most of the post Ep VI stories, in particoular Yuuhzan Vong and Palpatine clones storielines, but thanks to the Force the sequel trilogy is going to deal and fix that), but Force Unleasched 1 was a good start for… anything set between ep III and IV.

This has revamped my hype for a new Star Wars animated series. I was never a fan of The Clone Wars, and wasn’t too keen to the idea of a new animated series, but this has given me a new hope for what’s to come in Disney’s Star Wars universe. I’m very happy that they’ve decided to base the new designs on McQuarrie’s classic concept art for the original movies and even an old Kenner toy. However, the inclusion of new primary villains or protagonists who’s roles play an enormous part in the new plots always puts a sour feeling in my stomach, because really, all they’re doing is straying from the original story more and more, making less sense as it continues. I’d be more excited if Vader brought in someone like cyborg-Maul to help him wipe out the remaining Jedi, rather than this “inquisitor.”

I cant help but to feel like this Inquisitor idea ruins the feeling that the Jedi were long gone only 5 years before A New Hope….!?!?!?!

I most certainly agree. How was he trained so quickly? Where the hell did he come from? Where was he during the prequels. I feel the same way about Ahsoka in the Clone Wars series. There was absolutly no mention of them before or after their appearances, and not too much time went by in between, so what happened? I feel like they’re just cramming in as many new characters as possible no matter how it effects the legitimate saga.

u guys know that mara jade is in the show right? but she is only 12 years old at the time because she was born in 17BBY and the show takes place in 5 BBY. just seems a little weird to me because she will be so young when the show starts

the rule of 2 means there must always be a master and an apprentice one to have the mantle and the other to crave it. the inquisitor is just 1 of darth sidious’s hands, a highly trainded assassain trainded to use the force. but they were not trained to the extent that they would become to powerful. plus each one of his hands thought they were the only hand
