‘Solo’ Will be Called ‘Han Solo: A Star Wars Story’ in Certain International Markets

The official Spanish Star Wars account on Facebook has just revealed that in Spain, the movie about the famous space smuggler will be called Han Solo: A Star Wars Story instead of Solo: A Star Wars Story as the movie is titled in the US.

This move was expected since the word “solo” has a meaning of its own, which could be confusing to some of the international markets not that familiar with the brand.

This title change was hinted a few days ago when a promo image from the movie was released via several Russian sources.

While Lucasfilm said they didn’t authorize the use of this image, it’s clear that it’s legit. We’ve seen the costumes the cast wears in it in other images shared by director Ron Howard or in images that leaked from the set.

Also, speaking about Solo, Ron Howard shared for the New Year another photo from the set with Han piloting a speeder. We’ve actually already seen a black and white version of this image, but now here it is in full color:

Solo/Han Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25, 2018. Just 143 days to go.

Thank goodness – would never of twigged it referred to Han Solo. Could of been a solo adventure of any number of Star Wars characters otherwise.

Well, I guess the upside is that expectations are low. At least for me. So a decent film will amount to a success.
The lego guys are gone, that a huge plus in my book. But the fact that they were hired in the first place is concerning. Ron Howard is capable, but tone will be critical. If this is an ironic self-aware smart-assed script (like lego movie) then I’m out. But if it’s grounded, Star warsy and the new solo owns the character, that will be a pleasant surprise.

It’ll make plenty of bank regardless. Disney knows that there will be a steady decline in returns. Plenty of profit but less “biggest film ever” projections. A Star Wars film you waited years for was a special event. Every year, not so special.

It was written by Lawrence Kasdan (screenwriter of ESB, ROTJ and TFA) and his son. For this reason I assume (and hope) it will not be the jokey, self-aware movie it could be. TLJ sometimes was a bit like that and it did not work. Just for the script I have hope for this movie to be a true SW film. We’ll see

Kasdan’s a huge Han Solo fanboy, though. I’d just as easily cringe into my pants over a gushy fanfiction. (Is it fanfiction if the original writer writes it? A question for the ages.)

Makes sense. In spanish solo means only so “Solo: Una Historia de Star Wars” translates to “Only a Star Wars Story” which is a pretty shit title for anyone who doesn’t know already what the movie is about.

Solo will be the film where Disney’s greed catches up with them.

    • January 3, 2018 at 5:10 pm
      Permalink

Greed? It’s a business. They create entertainment they think people will be interested in seeing. They may be successful, they may not be. But why is it greed? Is any business that hopes to be profitable being greedy?

      • January 4, 2018 at 10:14 pm
        Permalink

Yes. Greed is inherent to business. It’s the driving force behind capitalism as a whole, the desire to gain things for oneself. Every business is driven by greed.

The problem comes when people don’t think beyond the one-note levels of “greed is bad”. Disney wants money, so they make more Star Wars movies. Is that bad? Not on paper, more movies means more for the consumer base to watch and enjoy. Which also feeds into greed on OUR level, because we want more movies for our own personal pleasure.

Greed is natural, greed is normal. Only when it hurts someone is it bad.

        • January 4, 2018 at 11:00 pm
          Permalink

There is a clear difference between greed and enterprise. Greed is not defined as being a consumer or supplier of goods and services, nor is it being a profiteer from providing those goods and services. Greed is never a positive thing, it is the wholly immoral and selfish lust for excess.

Greed is the driving force behind Humanity
Greed is what gets people to go to work, feed and cloth there kids, provide housing for there families,
Greed helps parents push their kids for better in life, better employment, better schools
Greed is why the Human race now lives a somewhat comfortable lifestyle, we dont forage for food, and clothes anymore, There are people who provide the basics for life, and greed is what drove them to do it for us.
Without greed we all be sitting in huts somewhere, dying off at 25 and finding something else to complain about

          • January 5, 2018 at 1:33 pm

you should watch a film called The Empire Strikes Back, near the end after the Han Solo character is constantly trying to win the Princess character over, and constantly getting rejected. She surprise kisses him in the Carbon Freeze Chamber. That is real chemistry, not talking about sand, or trying to derail the only redeeming self sacrifice in a bad movie

Han Solo spends the movie trying to win her over, as you said. the thing is, Finn doesn’t seem to actually like Rose. He doesn’t share the kiss because he doesn’t share the feelings. Did you really think that that moment happened on ACCIDENT? lmfao

Not if he doesn’t like her back. If Finn doesn’t like her back then it would make perfect sense as to why there was a lack of passion. I personally am not a fan of the kids either way but I’m just playing devil’s advocate here lol.

People in this comment section hyped Rian Johnson’s TLJ like it was the new ESB months before the movie had been released. Now they hate the Solo movie like it’s going to be the next AOTC. How about you watch the movie before deciding whether you like it or not? But no, you’ve already made up your mind. There are no shades of gray; for you every SW movie is either a 1/10 or a 10/10 on IMDB even though 99% of all movies ever made deserve neither the first nor the latter. Here’s my advice how to avoid a divided fanbase like we had after TLJ. Watch the SOLO movie without any baseless expectations and enjoy a stressfree movie experience because you don’t have to fanatically confirm your biases every 10 seconds while watchig the movie. This way you’ll be able to make statements that are usually unheard of in the SW fan community like “It was a good movie but the humour really didn’t land with” or “Overall, the movie had some really bad pacing issues, but occasionally the editing was spot on”. But this would be madness, right?

I have high expectations for this film because of KK’s involvement.
and everybody can calm down about the reports of the actors inability to act, Being a male character I dont expect him to have any real screentime, only when his misogynyst ways are put in check by the real stars – Amelia Clark and Danny Glover.

I would appreciate more evil women in the Disney era SW universe, after all equality means to portray strenghts AND weaknesses regardless of gender. But I’m pretty sure the SOLO movie will mainly focus on Han Solo even if KK was the most diehard feminist to ever walk the earth. Also, wouldn’t it be Thandie Newton who wins the oppression olympics 😉
