Han Solo Movie Confirmed to be Filming on Spanish Island of Fuerteventura!
Back in January we told you about a report posted on a trusted Spanish site that the Han Solo spin-off movie will potentially be filmed on the Spanish island of Fuerteventerua. Now the local Film Commission, a public and non-profit organization that helps any filming on the island, has officially confirmed that Disney has all the permits to shoot the next Star Wars film about the adventures of young Han Solo there.
The confirmation was uncovered by the Spanish site supervivientesdeendor.es.
The filming is expected to take place in the coming months in the south regions of the island. A representative of the Fuerteventura Film Commission said:
“During the last months we have been working with representatives of Surf Film and Disney to finalize the locations, to prepare a work schedule for the filming. All the pertinent reports to authorize this shoot have been issued.
This shoot consolidates the destination Fuerteventura as a natural film set in the world and will help promote the island internationally. We have turned to insular and municipal labor markets for producers to select workers. “
As Supervivientesdeendor states, although there is no word in the statement that the movie is Han Solo, the EFE Agency has been able to confirm by sources involved in the operation that it is a production of Star Wars.
The island is famous not only with its beautiful beaches, but also with the alien looking mountains. They surely match with the western feel of the movie, as Kathleen Kennedy described the production.

Will Corellia ever make it to the silver screen?
I hope
probably in this movie.
It was my favorite planet in the old ‘star wars galaxies’ mmo.
If they put Corellia in, we better see mother f-ckin’ Bothan’s, too.
So tired of Star Wars deserts. You can have a western feel without the dusty barren landscapes.
Or a rock planet, or something else new.
gonna laugh if tatooine shows up again.
If a success and they decide to do more I wouldn’t mind, but to soon at the moment.
I think that’s a safe bet, considering the inevitable Jabba connection. A twist would be to finally find out what happened to Jabba’s son, Rotta.
Or it will be ano exotic CG landscape and you guys will then be complaining about it looking too CG
That is you channeling on other people. I have nothing against CGI landscapes and would massively prefer that to another safe dust bowl planet.
But for every one of you, there are several of them. But every planet cannot be a bursting metropolis either. Have any ideas for new exotic planets. Please list.
Did I say every planet has to be a bursting metropolis? You are being triggered by things no one said lol.
Who said anything about deserts? Fuerteventura is much more of a coastal mountainous terrain than a desert.
Nahhh, this is about the name of the island.
They are teasing us…
It could be translated as “Strong Adventure” “Big Fortune”…
I want to see a Star Wars movie shot in Patagonia:

Oh great, another desert planet. How original…
Soo TESB is the only Star Wars movie without desert planets.
Deserts don’t usually have coastlines.
Oh great another tropical planet …
coastal does not necessarily mean tropical
They can have. Egypt is a desert and it has coastline.
Great, another comment jumping to conclusions!
Given that Star Wars planets are pretty much established to be single environments (Tatooine and Jakku are deserts, Endor is forest, Coruscant is an urban area, Felucia is non-sense and so on…), I really don’t have a problem with another desert – literally thousands of movies are shot in New York, often times in the same places, and it doesn’t make those movies any less (or more) “original”.
(Also, the “original/unoriginal” complaint is totally void, when applied to SW – since, even in 1977, SW wasn’t “original”, but this is something most people don’t understand).
Spent a week here over the New Years holiday. The island has more of a mars feel to it than a desert one.
Mars is a desert.
But I’d does have more of an alien feel to it. I think it will definetely be different to what we’ve seen before.
Actually, Antarctica is considered a desert as well and is clasified as such because of the lack of precipitation.
Yep. Antarctica is one of the driest places in the world. Nothing can grow there.
This is a code new tip clue from the name of the island.
Translated means “Strong Adventure”.
I vote for a Pizza Planet. To infinity and Beyond.
Pepperoni?
Buzz Lightyear is the real Chosen One.
I hope they’ll finally give us some new Felucia-like planets on-screen soon.
Planets filled with giant plastic flowers? I’ll pass.
Felucia looked awful..better exemples of more out-there worlds would be Corsucant/Bespin/Ring Of Kaferene/Mustafar…
Could even take inspiration from the Riddick franchise, pretty cool examples of out-there planets in that.
You were baiting with this last time there was a discussion about actual alien looking planet. Only then you thought Felucia was completely CGI.
And?
It still looks like fake plastic flowers. Whichever method was used is irrelevant.
Yet another way of making something sound like a negative. Felucia was an actually unique and alien world. What do you want, more planets filled with sand? Planets filled with snow, perhaps? Or maybe you would prefer a planet full of water, does that cater to you more?
There are many locations on earth that could make for interesting planets that feature terrains unlike those we’ve seen before in Star Wars. What I want are believable locations, not fake-looking plastic surrealistic crap. Here are just a few:

Do you guys think the movie will tie Han into the trilogy films even more? For instance in this film maybe Han retrieved the legendary sacred force macguffin and its some how used to stop the Darkside in Episode 9? It will it completely be a standalone story from his past?
Another desert? How exciting!
Kessel Run
Meeting Chewie
Han & Lando
All that matters.
I’d like to see them film in countries that have never had major films filmed in them though that will likely never happen due to the fact that said nations probably wouldn’t have much of a film industry and be in the most dangerous spots of the world.
