they sure are teasing the heck out of this blu-ray release.
I will say that for me, the only two things that I desperately want from this release that wasnt in the first edition would be J.J. Abrams commentary as well as the Imax sequence from Jakku. Everything else is pure fluff.
absolutely. that commentary is going to be fascinating.
Yup. Im not sure if you have heard some of J.J.’s other commentary tracks, but he’s usually very insightful, often talking about story choices, specific shots and how and when they were created. IMO his worst commentary track is Super 8.
The IMAX sequence can be viewed as the Starz broadcast. It is cropped for 16:9 ratio HDTV, so the whole IMAX frame isn’t there, but there is significantly more visual information than what is available on blu ray as seen in the theatrical 35mm release.
I know — I was hoping for the same thing! The aspect ratio switching works really well for Nolan’s Interstellar on blu ray. Anyways, you can see some screenshot comparisons for Starz’s broadcast of TFA over at originaltrilogy.com: http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/The-Force-Awakens-1781-scenes-in-2D/id/47168/page/2
Yep – JJ Abrams just CONFIRMED that they cut out her seeing Luke vs Vader in Bespin. That is SHAMEFUL that that was cut out. I love JJ and love Disney but that is complete and total HOGWASH that such a potentially EMOTIONALLY-engaging 10 seconds was cut out.
Those 10 mere seconds would have made the Forceback scene SO much stronger from Start to Finish —- with the Forceback now having meaning instead of feeling like “randomly edited footage”. In the current Forceback, it is literally MEANINGLESS that she is in the Bespin Hallway and for the average casual viewer, they had no idea where she even was.
He explained exactly why which made perfect sense.
No it didn’t. It would have enhanced the ForceBack into a more meaningful experience and connected the “old” and the “new” in a meaningful way.
Matter of opinion.
I think the vast majority of the viewing audience would have been elated to see 5-10 seconds of Luke vs Vader on the screen. In fact, that moment would have made theaters ERUPT on opening night.
Fan service does not constitute a good movie or story. Sure it would get cheers. But obviously they left it out for a reason.
Yeah. That Chewy scene needed to be cut with a host of others. But I really don’t know why that would be removed. For a movie going for nostalgia, trying to connect to the old, that is disappointing.
Its shameful. Those extra 10 seconds would have made the Forcenback scene BREATHTAKING — and make me fundamentally care more about both Rey and Luke.
He clearly states that the shot never got past the concept phase. They never composed the shot. it was never “cut”, because as far as footage goes, it was never there to begin with. Get over it. It’s been nearly a year and you’re still hopelessly obsessed with ten seconds’ worth of footage that never even existed.
Doug Chiang has a very calming voice. He should have one of those ASMR Youtube channels.
Auch. Two things from the video: the spanish poster from ESB on that amazing shirt, one of the best posters of the saga, and that vintage TIE interceptor… It hearts…
