Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and J.J. Abrams at The Force Awakens Press Conference in Seoul, South Korea. J.J. Abrams believes even new fans can fully enjoy the upcoming Star Wars movie without knowing the previous plots or characters. The director unveils more details of the highly-anticipated installment.

Given its longevity and status as the highest-grossing franchise of all time, it’s no surprise that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is already driving diehard fans to an anticipatory frenzy.
But that same hype will likely intimidate “Star Wars” neophytes: would they have to watch all six prequels to understand the seventh installment?
Thankfully, director J.J. Abrams says the answer is no.
“I knew this would be the first Star Wars movie for a lot of people,” he told reporters at a press conference in Seoul on Wednesday. “It’s important for you to love the characters and not have to study Star Wars or have memorized or even seen it before to follow the story.”
“The Force Awakens” has faced racist resistance for casting a black man to the lead role. But Boyega remained gracious when asked about the controversy.
“It feels surreal to come 15 hours on a plane and to have someone that is obviously so culturally different from you still recognize you and speak about something that is global,” he said. “It’s the appeal of Star Wars. It’s also the appeal of the story and characters and I feel very, very blessed to be in this position.”
One thing for certain is that though a strong woman, Rey will be different from previous “Star Wars” heroines.
“As a woman in Star Wars, it’s very exciting to be compared to Princess Leia because she has paved the way for bad-ass women,” the 23-year-old British starlet said. “But Rey is very different. She doesn’t come from privilege. She doesn’t come from royalty. She’s just a young woman trying to make her way with little help and no support.”
“The Force Awakens” has also forced Adam Driver to break into his first Blockbuster role. Starring as Kylo Ren, the successor to Darth Vader, the American actor had previously been more active in smaller films.
“The size of it is what initially was interesting and kind of daunting,” he said. “I started being overwhelmed by working on something where I didn’t have to bring my own costume or they actually had food to feed us while we were shooting.”
But Driver said a piece of advice from Abrams had kept him going.
“I remember calling J.J…. and he said something which makes so much sense: that you can’t solve all the things you can’t control. All you can do is break it up into pieces and solve one moment. That moment will lead to another moment and hopefully after all those moments, we would have a movie,” he said.

What “racist resistance”? Two trolls on Twitter is not resistance. Racism is dead (at least in the West).
I have yet to find any real objection to the black stormtrooper. Trolls or tons and tons of self-righteous condemnation against phantom racists. I do respect (but totally disagree and can easily refute) the argument that he should be a clone but that argument is not rooted in racism, just mistaken on what’s canon. I’m so sick of hearing all the look at me and how virtuous I am against stuff that really doesn’t exist. But may! Somewhere! I typed up something on twitter! I’m awesome!
Blech.
It’s pretty immature and frankly pathetic.
You cant be serious ….
I am serious, and you forgot to call me Shirley. Do you know anyone, personally, who is racist? I don’t. I have never encountered one person under the age of 65 who is truly, actually racist. Making an off-color joke doesn’t count. That’s humor.
This very site alone was a hotbed for racist Boyega remarks before they got rid of the anonymous posting option not too mention the numerous amount of arguments Ive been at other sites comment section that said, for example, “I thought this was Star Wars not Planet of the Apes” and comments of that nature.
While most of these things Ive seen firsthand have been deleted I can still provide you proof … Just look at the comment section from this Cinema Blend article ……
http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Read-Patton-Oswalt-Epic-Rant-About-Star-Wars-Racists-69453.html
1. Anonymous = troll
2. The comment you mentioned counts as an off-color joke. One I would never repeat nor condone, but a joke nonetheless.
3. Again. Do you know any racists, personally? When racists make up such a small proportion of the population that no one seems to know any, it’s essentially dead.
This crap doesn’t belong in these comments
“Off color joke” = code for racist / sexist joke
I skimmed through the comments and didn’t see anything racist. Could you point me to one? (Serious question)
How about yourself? I don’t know you personally, but based on your comments above about Mexicans…
Tell that to Donald Trump and the millions who follow him in the US. Racism unfortunately is pretty alive in America.
Not a Trump fan here, at all, though I am Conservative. If he won the nomination I would have to vote Libertarian. That said, what has he said that is racist? I know he doesn’t like illegal immigration, but that’s not racist.
He literally said that all Mexicans are murderers and rapists, and that “maybe some of them are good people”.
come on guys, lets keep politics out of star wars please. 🙂
It’s too late. Have you seen the prequels?
Nope. Try again. Here’s the full quote:
“The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems. …
When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re
not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that
have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us.
They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And
some, I assume, are good people.”
He’s saying that many of the immigrants that come over from Mexico are rapists and drug dealers and people with lots of problems. Which is true. Very poorly worded? Yes. Racist? No. If he was racist, he would say that all Hispanics are rapists. He did not. In fact, he was only talking about illegal immigrants, not all Hispanics. You can say it’s anti-immigrant, but it’s not racist.
“… many of the immigrants that come over from Mexico are rapists and drug dealers… which is true.”
Seriously? Seriously?!?!
Oh my goodness…. Are you even paying attention?
Hahahaha. Racism is far from dead in the west, sadly. There may not be segregation or slavery, but there is certainly racism.
Again, I’m going to ask if you know anyone, personally, that is racist. I know it’s anecdotal, but it’s a good gauge on the problem, if there is one.
Are you kidding? I know so, so, so many people who are racist Most people don’t even really realize the extent to which they are.
Jeez I hate to sound like a TMZ gossip comment but YOWCH! That is one FUGLY pantsuit Daisy is wearing … Looks like old timey grandmas couch material
That would be a couch I would like to sit on.
Haha, yep, not arguing with that
i’m sure they dressed them for where they were going. in the us it’d be wack, but i’ve seen crazier things worn by celebrities over there. what’s weird here is not even close to weird in korea.
I admit I laughed at your comment…but look at how cute she is!! The others are kinda cute too but she’s like… the cutest thing since the baby Ewok
https://youtu.be/VQvzSHyQSmc
That baby Ewok was about to EAT HAN SOLO!!!
I completely agree, Im definitely not complaining about Daisy’s looks by any stretch … just whatever dark side entity dressed her for that event.
New movie confirmed!
when was peggy carter cast in this movie? is this a marvel crossover?! 😉
I’m done with this comment section. Mods keep deleting my well-reasoned and respectful comments. Peace.
What were your “respectful comments about? Because if you were “respectfully” writing about how the KKK is amazing and Hitler is your hero (or something like that), than I’m not sure I’d see a problem here.
If that’s not incendiary, I don’t know what is. I said nothing of the sort, and shame on you for insinuating that I did.
I never said you did. I’m just commenting from an outside perspective. If those are the types of things you commented, which they may be, then oh well.
This is a Star Wars site not a political arena.
I was directly responding to something in the article itself. Don’t bring politics into it if you don’t want people to comment on it.
I got blown out too. But free speech doesn’t enter into it. It’s their site and if they want to keep it all about the Star Wars and not the politics, can’t say I blame them. It’s not the government censoring, it’s their site, they can do what they want. It’s not like there aren’t a million other places to rant. Besides, I’m not sure they brought it up as much as quoted various pieces in an article that happened to mention political stuff. I think the intent matters a little.
So I’ll take my deletion with good humor and apologies for getting ranty. But thanks to all who upvoted me.
This is a site dedicated to a long-running series of films that are set against the recurring backdrops of war, imperialism, and the tedious minutiae of government bureaucracy — It is not a place for politics!
Your well-reasoned and respectful comments? LOL….
Why does Adam Driver always look like he is mentally counting down the seconds until he can leave?
Because he’s socially awkward that way. Like Harrison Ford.
Because he is.
Hes a young Harrison Ford. That’s part of why I buy the whole “He’s Han’s son” in a way because he totally pulls it off
I LOVE the way that Daisy Ridley says Yoda’s name.
“Yaudah”
Me too.
Boyega and Ridley look like they are in the middle of doing the ZZ Top wave thing.
K yeah excited, Driver is so Ford every time you see him of course he HAS to be playing his son, Boyega already has the aura of a movie star I expect tremendous things from him but OMG Ridley, who let you walk out on stage in that outfit?!!
Him missing hims mr kujda and minky but hers not in joera anymore because she died. so sad for mrs jujda but thabkfull jj is there for mr kujda
I for one am Loving Daisy and John the more I hear and see them…Both young attractive articulate enthusiastic..excited..unjaded…i love them. And Daisy Ridley usually looks fantastic 🙂
