SDCC: Behind the Scenes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!
Bummed about there being no new trailer at SDCC? Don’t worry, Lucasfilm has you covered with a behind-the-scenes video they screened at the event!
Grant has been a fan of Star Wars for as long as he can remember, having seen every movie on the big screen. When he’s not hard at work with his college studies, he keeps himself busy by reporting on all kinds of Star Wars news for SWNN and general movie news on the sister site, Movie News Net. He served as a frequent commentator on SWNN’s The Resistance Broadcast.
Seen it. It’s alright, I guess.
JUST KIDDING!!!!
IT RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow that looks so amazing
Wow, I hope this is a joke otherwise you really need some therapy. Obsess much?
Please jump into the nearest trash compactor as soon as possible. I can see they’ve forgotten a piece, so do them a favor and get back in there.
You do realise there are another two films to release after The Force Awakens before you start contemplating the destruction of your childhood.
You sound like that fool who spearheaded that old “Craig not Bond”obsessive nonsense ten years ago. So sure was that particular dick that Casino Royale would suck arse, he started up his laughable “protest” even before a single frame was in the can. You’re not the same person are you? Chill the f*** out and try appreciating the fact we’re getting ANY new Star Wars that isn’t a cartoon. Or go and make your own films, seeing as you clearly know everything.
This 3 minute thing had more passion, more emotion, more heartfelt joy at producing Star Wars than all the PT films AND all PT documentaries together. Watching Lucas blunder his way through the PT was sad. Watching this…makes me FEEL the Force around me.
It all looks so damned good and STAR WARSY that the plot is almost bound to suck. Unless we’ve been fooled. Because say what you will, bringing back the Bespin saber DOES suck mucho ass.
BUT we can’t be sure of evrrything plotwise so I’ll wait and see.
Not going to make noise for one lousy cinema ticket.
But just look at the faces of the cast…they do seem to believe in EP VII.
Sounds like you were part of the production of the PT. Sound like you went to all SWCs and SDCC’s from 1999 to 2005. Sounds like you know GL personally.
#troll
You said the most ridiculous thing that I’ve ever heard. The Bespin saber does not suck ass. It was Anakin’s then handed down to Luke and now it will be passed to someone else, probably Rey. Anakin’s lightsaber is what ties all three trilogies together.
Why when you can construct your own ?
Casino Royal was alright, but Qauntum and Skyfall are garbage!
Until the movie comes out, I have no opinion on how good or bad it is. I seriously doubt that JJ will fuck this movie up. I am a huge Star Trek fan too and he didn’t fuck those up.
Also I’m not too keen on seeing an old people’s Star Wars. It surely won’t be the same watching Han and Leia. Hopefully Ford and Fisher can pull it off. For Hamill it is the perfect and obvious progression, if he is the new Obiwan-dude, so I am sure that will work.
How can anyone be so unrelaxed to judge a movie before it is released.
Someone should make a dedicated StarWarsHaters forum. Not only would you make a lot of money, you would probably help nutcases like the above vent about what they need to get off their chests. Would be doing the internet and the world a favour. Once we gather the right amount of haters, we then hurl the site into outer space.
What a fucking magical once in a lifetime experience!
We gotta figure out who this wanna be Jabba the Hut dude is
Kevin the Smith?
More like Rush the Limbaugh
Chris the Christie
Chris the Matthews
Michael the Moore
Bill The Cosby
Average the American
Rob the Ford
Rock the Casbah
the fact that they felt so compelled to include a Jabba the Hutt character makes me lose a little more faith in the originality of this production.
Wow, you mean they are using practical effects in this movie????? I am shocked! Who knew?????
Yes, 9 billionth “practical effects” comment a little grating. But…it’s coming from Mark effin’ Hamill! He gets a free pass.
That’s like saying I won’t watch A New Hope because Yoda isn’t in it. Calm down.
Get a life man.
It fits in with the SW universe. Every piece of SW literature has some sort of crime syndicate fraking crap up and making money.
If they would have made it another Hutt, then you may have a point. But there’s always a bounty hunter, scum, grime, shadow lurking, piece of the universe, its what makes it feel down to ‘earth’ and relatable, which of course was a charm of the original – which is why some of you hated it.
At least we get confirmation that Poe Dameron gets captured and taken on board an imperial craft. Jason Ward was right, as always.
Yeah. Several new shots in this BTS short. It might as well have been ‘teaser 3’. But don’t think I’m dissing it; I loved this new little peice of the puzzle.
Also interesting was that people have been wondering how Finn got Poe’s jacket if he was in his orange pilot outfit – however we see him next to his x-wing in the village in his brown jacket and also wearing it when captured by stormie Finn. So now him getting hold of the brown jacket makes sense as he doesn’t wear his orange outfit til later on.
3 outfits for Ol’ Poe.
1)Rapping with General organa
2)Flying the Xwing
3)running in the desert with Finn.
Look at Finns body shape. Now look at the body shape of the storm trooper who looks like he’s caught Poe. Looks to me like this is part of the John in a stormtrooper scenario. Reminds me of when the OT guys infiltrated the Death Star by posing as troops.
Imagine if George Lucas made Episode IV with the same approach these guys are taking today. “Older is better because we don’t want to offend the previous generation or cause visual differentiation.” The dramatic trench run in IV would have featured Flash Gordon model ships on strings. Search your feelings guys. You know it’s true.
“we don’t want to offend the older generation”. Lol, you don’t get it man. THE FILMMAKERS ARE THE OLDER GENERATION. They do this for themselves. All these people are real, hardcore fans, from the director to production designer. They do exactly the movie they want to see, which apparently (judging the audience ovation every time they mention practical effects) is the movie most of the people wants as well.
Deal with it. Star Wars is back.
1) most of the people that were in the audience are of that older generation, the ones that saw the OT in theaters as kids/youth
2) most people are just glad and excited that more Star Wars movies are coming out in general, not totally necessarily excited on the techniques being deployed in the making of them.
Don’t confuse “excited for new SW movies” with “excited that their using practical effects”. Don’t let all of this practical effects talk blind you of the reality behind the excitement of the ST.
They’re combining modern technology with practical effects, using CGI where it’s necessary – they’re not warping back in time and getting themselves stuck there. No offense, but what you’re saying sounds a bit uninformed. The masks won’t be like the static, old school masks – it’s a blast to the past with a modern edge. Haven’t you seen the mask with the moving mouth and all? It’s like taking the way the original trilogy was made and giving it a big upgrade while maintaining the feel without making any drastical changes to the way they handle things in general.
A better analogy would be modern bands using vintage recording gear alongside modern production methods. Best of both worlds!
Wrong.
The trench run composited ACTUAL MINIATURE MODELS, real tactile miniatures with detail, shadow, and real explosions.
The technology was always there, they just did it better.
I think people are getting wayyy bent outta shape over the practical effects. Have you seen the hellboy movies, or Guillermo del toros “pan’s labyrinth”? Those are amazing movies and one of the most impressive parts of them are how gorgeous they are. And Guillermo is gung-ho on mixing what’s tangible and practical with cgi touch ups. Honestly it’s the best possible way to make things that are fake look as real as possible. Most studios don’t do it simply because it takes much more manpower and hours. But there’s something amazing about it. And the reason they bring it up in every interview and thing shown is because they literally can’t talk about ANYTHING involving the movie. They want to keep as much under wraps as possible and I’m glad. I want to feel shocked. Can’t tell you the last time I went into a huge spectacle kind of movie and not known what was gonna happen. It was probably the first Jurassic park. And it blew me away. Now especially after watching this video, I can’t fucking wait for Christmas. I think It’ll be epic
Is it just me or does that short, green, hairy alien remind anybody of Muffit from Battlestar Galactica. If it is a nod to Battlestar, than kudos to Star Wars.
Also on the new official Star Wars App Incase you wanted to add that up top to the post. Pretty decent App, had all the videos from celebration and a ton more
Awesome.
Well it wasn’t a trailer, but still incredible! I wonder who that stormtrooper had captured in the middle scene?
Poe Dameron!
Looked like Isaac
It’s Poe Dameron but he’s wearing Finn’s jacket which is a little strange.
Nothing strange about it, it’s his jacket. Finn obtains it later after the Tie crashes, this was reported around spoiler sites before we ever saw the outfit and now it’s confirmed.
https://youtu.be/OeerovXpEZk
ehh initially I tried to trick myself into thinking this was great but, I’m disappointed.
Then don’t see the movie.
Lol. I’m disappointed in regards to the panel that was presented at Comic Con, not the film.
How difficult is it to believe that they wouldn’t lie a second time?
I expected more. Feel free to define “more” anyway you want lol.
“More” as ina more ofa mesa, Jar Jar! Phbtphbtphbtphbt!
Um…I think YOU have to define it. You’re saying it.
I’m disappointed too.
Basically this was just one hour of:
“practical effects! original cast members are great! practical effects! origianl cast members are great! And oh yes, Gleeson’s character is named Hux, but don’t you love those PRACTICAL EFFECTS????”
Don’t worry, Jar Jar,
you can always play The Phantom Menace blu-ray while we enjoy IV, V, VI and VII 🙂
You have multiple personality disorder maybe?!
You speak in plural. That is not healthy.
You mean you will watch IV, V and VI only.
People like you who are obsessed with OT, will hate everything that is not OT. Fact.
No, he means him and the rest of the normal people.
Not true. I warrant that many OT fans also liked Clone Wars and some of the EU.
That’s right. We like The Clone Wars as well, and some of us Rebels too.
And we will like The Force Awakens with its character driven story, its special effects at the service of the screenplay and its lack of useless CG characters like JarJar Binks and Hayden Christensen.
Yeah dude, they are obsessed with practical effects. Let’s keep watching this!

And…. Thiiis…
http://i.ytimg.com/vi/XUPhgKI9p_Q/maxresdefault.jpg
And this and this photos you post from prequels are much better than anything in that behind the scene video above.
Also PT are full of practical effects too.
But haters will hate.
At least PT are original, they have original look. This movie is just rehash of OT. Nothing original there.
Dude (15:42 PM), time to buy new glasses. JJ Abrams could give you good advice 🙂
Thiiis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi5jjXTPtyY
You need new glasses. You are still living in 70’s and 80’s dude.
And I have zero problem with that scene. We have faaar worst dialogues in OT.
You are a fricking nut job. EVERYTHING about the PT sucked. Just own up to it already.
Thanks..
Man I’ve seen some people who live in denial but PT’ers take the cake!
If the PT was full of practical… please show me one clone trooper who wasn’t cgi’d. Can’t do it? Then stop lying to yourselves 😉
The PT is just the Flash Gordon that Lucas wanted to originally make. Its ‘look’ (if we’re actually discussing it lol) isn’t that original.
At least I can sleep at night with knowing that they will feature an Asian cast!. #spoileralet
spoirerarert*
Jar jar Easter egg in a canteena confirmed, will sing “I’m so ronery, so ronery and sadly arone…”
/groan. F*** JJ Abrams gently with a chainsaw. Then BBQ his giant ego over a fire. That piece of video shall testify to his vanity and arrogance until…well, his next interview or public appearance. Jeez, congrats on opening the lid of the “Myster Box™” less than 3mm JJ. Screw you and your refusal to actually let your fans know anything of substance until they plunk down money to see the film (some of whom spent lots of money to go to SWC or SDCC or D23 already, only to always get table scraps from someone in the top 1% of egomaniacs and pseudo auteurs in HOLLYWOOD). Practical effects? Really? Glad to hear that new nugget. Sheesh. George Lucas may have fingered the late adolescences of many Star Wars fans, but you are pissing on the fandom’s collective leg while bragging to everyone that you’re showering the world with the Bollinger (the du Abrams varietal of course). And congrats on being cowardly and greedy as **** and letting the “no trailer or clips” news leak only 72 hours before SDCC. Classy, thy name is Abrams. This way no one will be so distracted by CONTENT to forget to buy action figures and other merch that was released just in time for SDCC. Priorities, they are obvious. Meet new boss Kathleen. Same as old boss. Pay her now!!!! And be thankful if she event lets you see a frame more of film before fall!!!
bitter Correllian Underground Night Trooper, aren’t you?
You’re mad you don’t know every detail of the movie you’re going to watch and plan ahead for weeks to watch irregardless of how much plot you know 6 months beforehand…..ok.
Rabo Karabekian actually has a point if you care to read his/her comment……. that is, if you do know how to read.
u mad brah?
Guess what? This is what happens when you pay a lot of money and do a loooong line to see something that is on the web an hour later.
If you go to SDCC for a sense of entitlement of having exclusive footage and stuff that nobody will see until the film is released, then you are pathetic & were bound to be disappointed. I don’t really understand why you need to be so angry at this, it’s much more telling of you and your personality than what they’re doing with the film or what they’re doing at SDCC.
Yer a wanker. Yes you are!
Typical star trek fan
Um. That was pretty awesome.
That was amazing. I teared a little and rolled my eyes at yet another mention of practical effects. Did no one pay attention to the filming of The Phantom Menace? Loads of practical effects and still sucked. Sick of hearing about effects.
I’m with you there, it’s getting a little grating at this point.
It still looks amazing, though!
There was nothing with that amount of detail in the PT. That giant dude sitting there with the alien girl… are you trying to tell me something like that wouldn’t have been CGI’d right away for the PT? I mean not even a single clone trooper was wearing physical armor!
& that’s what’s amazing about this… everything was tangible… a literal army of resistance & first order troops. I’m blown away!
Yah wobba wanga?
Thats not true at all, the phantom menace was done with tons of incredible practical effects. I think considering the cgi of today… it would have even more than the force awakens.
I totally agree. The Phantom Menace was terrible.
They were talking about TPM not AOTC!
uhhh Nute gunray from ep. III was very detailed and a practical effect
He wasn’t that detailed. And he was the only practical effect along with Darth Maul’s face paint.
ok I’m kidding but what the hell was the point of all that CGI in the PT when all we got was empty spaceships, bizarre and not very interesting alien designs and over the top, impossible-to-believe lightsaber battle moves?
If Kylo Ren does one backflip I’m throwing my popcorn.
Luke did a flip in ESB.
Not true. All movies are full of practical effects.
EP I has more model work and practical effects than CGI.
LOL… ok so like 2 or 3 dudes in the PT weren’t CGI’d & you guys are all like “look they used more practical effects than CGI!”
Please could I just get one PT’er to acknowledge the clone trooper thing? Not one was wearing real armor! It was *ALL* cgi’d!
Orrrr how about:
Jabba the hut?
Jabba’s wife?
The announcer @ the podrace event?
Half the racers?
The annoying robots you have to “tap on the nose”?
90% of what you see @ battle of naboo (between gungans & droid army)?
Watto?
Dex?
Kaminoans?
All the clone troopers?
Most of the droid army?
Half the main villains in AOTC?
Geonisians?
C3P0 factory sequence? (*ugh*)
Robot workers @ obi-wan/Anakin duel?
All the scenery @ obi-wan/Anakin duel? (-the background)
The “oooba-ooooba” droid @ end of ROTS?
Man I try really hard to enjoy those films… and there are scenes I enjoy, but then like 60% of the scenes in AOTC & ROTS just give me a headache because it looks so bad.
You people are mindless sheep if you believe the shit they are piling on here. TFA will be a CGI fest and it will give you a woody anyway.
Haha, is this what PT fanboys are reduced to?
1. You do realize that the PT was praised by many people in the film industry for its visuals and effects for its time, right? So you saying it looked bad is really just you being blinded by misguided feelings of nostalgia and being counterintuitive to the popular notions (and just being a plain irrational and delusional PT hater/basher).
2. I’ll direct you to this: http://furiousfanboys.com/2014/05/the-star-wars-prequels-sets-or-green-screen
3. I’m going to just state this for everyone to see (and this goes for anybody else here too that falls in this category): the ultimate claim – if you didn’t like ROTS, you are a fool and not a true Stat Wars fan! And this is a fact, not an opinion!
“You do realize that the PT was praised by many people in the film industry for its visuals and effects for its time, right?”
Haha, dude you made my day.
Everyone was pricing Gollum at that time. Visually, nobody in the industry gave a sh*t about the prequels.
False. PT are full of practical effects. PT has more model work than OT.
Many beautiful and detailed models there.
Proof here.
http://boards.theforce.net/threads/practical-effects-in-the-prequels-sets-pictures-models-etc.50017310/
The Phantom Menace is pretty good, it has it’s unneccessary CGI but all in all it’s pretty good, except for the battle that is nearly 100% CGI on a liveless green grassland. But unfortunatly the other two movies have reduced the practical effects AND, now is coming the important part) destroyed many of the practical effects by the post-production. Yes, there are many models but on one hand, many models were used for computer designs and on the other didn’t look like physical objects but like CGI itself for a part because of filters. It doesn’t matter how many practical effects you have if you can’t distinguish them from CGI and it doesn’t matter how much CGI you have as long as it’s looking real. Episode II and III didn’t manage to have that feel unfortunatly.
And how do we know that in post-production for TFA, special effects won’t be added to the practical effects to the point that the practical effects won’t be as noticeable?
Also, I’ll direct to to this:
http://furiousfanboys.com/2014/05/the-star-wars-prequels-sets-or-green-screen/
More than a little grating.
Um. No Clone Trooper uniforms were created. Every single CLone Trooper in the prequels was CG. No comparison. It looks great, try not to be a putz.
The practical effect speech is specially to counter Clones and Sith, but anyway, I know right away that this film will have much more feeling than The Phantom Menace, a movie where character development is inexistent. Just take the scene where QuiGon tells Padme to go to Tatooine and Panaka says “it’s not a good idea”. Where’s the vive? All characters are cataloged in stereotypes. Panaka, Obi, Qui-Gon, and the Queen: they are all the same. JarJar and C3PO: THE SAME. The only character that brought some emotion to the movie was Watto, a pretty well CG character, yes, but it doesn’t save the movie at all.
After watching this Behind the Scenes clip, do you really want to keep talking about The Phantom Menace? Come on.
This movie will rock.
We do not know that. This movie is maybe the worst Star wars movie ever. We will know that after premiere.
You are not a psychic.
Not true. If you watch PT again, and end credits you will see than clone tropers actors are there to.
They used CGI for them because they are clones, they must look the same.
But there was real actors in uniform too.
http://i.imgur.com/guWFa1l.jpg
LOL!
dude, do you realize in the image you just linked… the armor is CGI?
Infact… in that same scene that the image is linked from (he hands obi wan his light saber) they literally copy/pasted his movements in reversal…. watch the scene again & you will notice how awkward it looks.
There were no actors wearing clone trooper armor. Literally everything that you saw was CGI.
It’s possible that perhaps they used people as mo-caps, but there was not a single piece of clone trooper armor built for the PT. Nothing! It was all computer graphics.
Yup, the clones were all mo-caps but not a single one was real. You are right, there was not a single piece of armor produced.
Anonymous, the armor is CG. The fact you don’t realize explains very well why you accept those movies. We the adults come from a more notorious and refined times, before the dark times, before the kitty videos.
http://furiousfanboys.com/2014/05/the-star-wars-prequels-sets-or-green-screen/
notice that when Kylo Ren descends the falcon entrance, the rest of the ship is green screen. which means the ship is somehow different enough at this point to not use the main set. the other shot of KR with the stormtroopers seems to show a crashed MF.
Not the falcon’s ramp.
Did you notice 3po had a black arm not red like original report
They give the people what they want. A muppet show! 😀
Calm down. They’re only mentioning effects because they’re not allowed to say anything about the story until it’s released.
Or only when a trailer is released, but only in small details.
I think their preaching it really hard because of the reaction to the prequels and with he film still pretty far away its the only thing they can really go into detail with at this point
Thing is, prequels are also full of practical effects too. And this movie is also combination of both practical effecta and CGI, just like prequels.
So this practical effects preaching is annoying and makes no sense
It’s for the dumber Star Wars fans.
ENOUGH. OF. THE. PRACTICAL. EFFECTS.
That was cool. Getting really hyped for this. At least AT LEAST it’s a Star Wars film of the calibur we’ve hoped for all this time. The prequels were bland, flat, boring, dire, artificial…. and yes that Prequel defender dude can come on here and bash me for that, but let’s face it, most Star Wars fans are cold to the prequels. COLD. If you like them, fine, but most of us f’ing hate them, or put up with them at best. We do not love them. Episode 7 looks, potentially, like a film we can love. A film that at least tries to capture the magic of the originals.
Even for trying I will love it. Looks cool as all hell, which is exactly what Star Wars should be! I reckon this could easily be up there with Empire..
I think we are in the minority bruh. Lots of kids around who were somehow allowed to see the prequels before the originals and now wont shut up. 😉
I enjoyed the BTS. It’s all very familiar. Whether that will be a good thing or whether people end up wanting something more original, I dont know.
Nonsense. Most Star Wars fans don’t hang out on Star Wars fan sites. They’re far too jaded.
It could be up there with THIS Empire?
https://youtu.be/NTgK-JBBZcU
Are you DMV? Or is this a national chain and I didn’t know it!?!
“bland, flat, boring,”… etc.
That is just a matter of opinion. The prequels actually did very well at the box office, so I think odds are SOMEBODY liked them. And quit being such a PT basher. Sheesh.
Transformers, Twilight, Avatar and all that crud did well at the box office too. Says nothing.
Not true. Most star wars fans like both PT and OT.
Haters are minority, they always was.
I didn’t absolutely hate the PT but you’re spot on- they were mostly flat and just didn’t have much of a soul to them.
This looks like it is going to have that magic feeling of the OT and I can’t wait.
Hehe, I though I was going to be the first comment.
Have you seen Poe Dameron driven by 2 stormtroopers inside a “new order” ship or destroyer…?
I think that is new, am I right?
Or a confirmation of some spoilers I read, may be?
They are smart for not showing too much, too soon. Many movies make the mistake of giving away everything before the film comes out, but SWTFA deserves better treatment.
And we, the fans, deserve it, too. I think they want to blow out minds and make us love this move (almost) as much as the OT.
I say this as a guy who desperately wants to see Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Part of me rages that we’ve not even gotten a pic yet, but the other part of me thinks it will worth the wait, even if he’s only in the film for one scene.
Also, I think this is why they focus so much on the practical effects. It allows them to show off some things without revealing anything important. The mystery is part of the fun.
The video of that creature from the force for change video was amazing!
The huge pirate dude with alien girl… holy shit! This is gonna be insane… that was only behind the scenes shots & they already looked nearly complete! I expected that though knowing JJ’s workflow in the behind the scenes shots for into darkness.
“This is gonna be insane…”
Heard that! Way back when it was announced that JJ was doing Star Trek, my reaction was, “Damn, he’d be a lot better directing Star Wars.” (Not complaining, though, they were good films, but this is a cut above.)
He’s a huge fan, and it’s obvious that he’s putting tons of love into this. Heck, everyone involved seems to be in love with the project. That says a lot.
Needless to say, I’m hyped beyond description.
I really loved the noise the Red Pirate made. Can’t wait to hear more Bobbojo noises.
If Luke is only in one scene they can have all the practica effects in the world but that won’t make up for it. That would be he biggest dick move and show of total disregard for Star Wars. Luke is too important for that kind of crap
Everyone already believes it full on that he will be in only one scene. It’s like a much-reaffirmed, oft-repeated common knowledge by now. And a lot of people can of course get over it and already have. Good for them. I will believe that that idiocy is true only when I see it happen, and then JJ and crew can GTFO.
I dunno.
I mean, I want to see tons of Luke. I love Luke more than any other SW character hands down, always have, most likely always will. Luke IS Star Wars for me.
But if they build up to it right, and it’s dramatic, emotional or just freaking awesome, then I won’t complain about limited screen time. There are still more movies, after all.
It implies that the three of them have no screentime together. Look around you. Every blog is going nuts over the pictures of the 3 of them on the CC panel. Are the newb 3 getting the same love? No. Just a few who have a crush on Oscar Isaac, nothing more. It’s idiocy and nothing more, good luck to them with the “buildup” that falls flat on its face because of such a poor idea.
It’d be petty corporate fan service and likely a detriment to the future plot if they made this movie featuring the original 3 as main characters.
how does having some screentime together mean theyre the main characters?
If you’re so negative about this movie, then I suggest you find more positive things to do with your time. Life’s too short to waste it on negative emotions.
I’m not going to judge the film until I see it, but I have faith so far because of the love and dedication expressed by the crew & cast. You’re opinion may be different, and that’s your right, but really spending your free time hating something so badly is a waste of human potential. Look around you and decide if this is the best use of your time.
My point was that I wasnt gonna judge it either, but literally 90% of fans seem to have accepted this idea of his meager screentime based on the rumors. So I am in the process of realizing it’s probably true.
or luke has turned bad for most scenes, and they dont want to give that away by showing you
“Starkiller” the name of the superweapon? Really Team Lucasfilm, is that the best you can do? I understand that ripping off every McQuarrie design is a cheap way to get the OT fans back into the fold, but can’t you even use an origianl name invented in the year 2015? These filmmakers are stuck in the 70s and 80s.
Keep in mind, you’re talking about the franchise that named it’s other weapons “death star” “star destroyer” & “super star destroyer”. But it’s not about the name… it’s about what it can do & how it looks. Based on the shot with the first order rally I expect to see a pretty crazy base.
Hopefully that was a joke. Would be nicer if those references were more subtle. Some rebel pilote could have written it on an X-Wing for example…
This makes me so happy yay Star Wars!!!!!
I’m surprised at how good Carrie looks as Leia in the footage!
Yeah and she was getting fresh with JJ in that clip 😀
She needs to hire the makeup artist from the film for public events, no shade, but she looked better in that footage than she has in years.
Agreed. Fucking make up artists are almost like CGI themselves. Carrie looked great! And Harrison Ford is why women hate men. Men age so much better. Guy is still balls deep.
It’s amazing what a few lines of coke will do!
C3P0’s arm is indeed red!
Not as red as marketing photos fortunately !
It looks gorgeous.
So Threepio does have that red left arm after all.
Best thing I’ve seen all year. Fantastic.
So where can I rent the millennium falcon style mechanical bull for my birthday next month?
The supposed concept sketch of Maz Kanata looks a lot like the creature at 1:53.
You’re right! WOW! Good observation! (honestly no sarcasm)
I’m really going to be disappointed and pissed if they waste Lupita N’yongo’s performance capture work on a stupid puppet.
Is Lucasfilm so paranoid about making the OT crowd angry that they can’t even do traditional performance capture anymore???? They might as well have used Frank Oz perform Maz Kanada as a muppet.
Why would they make a mask when they are doing facial motion capture on her? The concept art that was supposedly Maz had a flat face and nose and a tiny mouth. It didn’t protrude out like this one. Not Maz.
And the video confirms more rumours:
– Crahed TIE Fighter
– “Finn’s Jacket” was originally Poe Dameron’s jacket.
– C-3PO got a new arm.
– Simon Pegg
– Leia received the lightsaber in the Celebration trailer (note the costume and finger bling).
Nearly got enough footage to piece together a decent pictorial of the first half hour of the movie.
And one more I forgot…
– Rey pilots the falcon.
the one and only scene I liked in the clip… actually the second. I liked Kylo Ren’s brief appearance.
Looking at the chunky thighs on the stormtrooper escorting Poe i’d say its Finn
Chewie’s got 2 arms in the cockpit
The only thing which doesn’t fit is the lack of blood mark on the helmet, otherwise yeah, probably Finn. The way he seems to be leading him around looks a bit off (for a stormtrooper)
That or the new Stormtroopers are a bit more forceful in the way they handle POWs and in general might me more ‘evolved’ killing machines than the hit-and-miss stormtroopers of the OT. the armour of the new troopers in general also looks much more mean, aggressive and forceful than their OT counterparts. Just a brain thought though 🙂 plz don’t crucify me hoomans
Wow. I’m speechless. But I do think we could have got a lot more for COMICON!!!
The really wild part is that they have managed to successfully keep any film images of Luke Skywalker off any trailers and videos…
Actually a nice job of building the suspense without giving too much away!
Yap, coz he’s a cyborg.
Nope that is clone luke
He was in the 2nd teaser… his face may have been hidden, but he was still there.
That was Anakin
No it wasn’t. That was luke. I’m almost positive Mark Hamill confirmed it was.
Plus, it literally says “I have it” during that scene, implying that’s Luke.
There was also a behind the scenes photo showing a different angle of that shot during the Celebration Anaheim panel without the cyborg hand. Some people matched the hand to Mark Hamill…
YES YES YES
Amazing!!!
Got a little goosebumpy there.
Still have Luke,Snoke,Maz Kanata and a few others up their sleeve to show us yet.
They are definitely building us up.
can’t believe Ford was there too!!!
Wish he had come to Anaheim 🙂
I am so happy that I’m about to cry. I’m not joking, I am being so sincere. Seeing all of this stuff, the animatronics, the sets, the energy, it…it feels like Star Wars. It feels like what I remember being 4 years old and watching those VHS tapes, those glorious two years before Episode I. I can tell that everyone on that film understands what they are doing and are truly passionate about this film and that every single one of them worked their hardest to make this a great film.
I know exactly where I will be on December 18th.
right with ya.
Yowza. Looking great. I’m gonna start working out, can’t die.
LOL we should create a blog about this. I am 44 and I drink and eat too much. I told my Wife I needed to start “taking care of myself”; she thought it was for her, but showed obvious disappointment in her face when I told her it was so I could still be alive December 18th to see the new Star Wars movie…….(true story)
MAGIC. some people can go ahead and nitpick, i wont be one of them. just letting the magic flow. tear inducing. and great job of showing us a bunch of stuff without really giving much away. love it.
tear inducing??????? You must be one of those prequel bashing “fans” who claimed that the phantom menace ruined your childhood because the podracing grandstand was obviously CGI…. ooops, it wasn’t!
Yer a wanker. Yes you are!
Haha, the podracing scene, even though it was mostly CGI (and mentioning the grandstand is ridiculous BTW), it was probably the only other redeeming watchable part of TPM outside the Darth Maul fight.
When will you guys stop claiming all OT fans hate is the CGI. The CGI is just an example of how uninspiring the movies as a whole were, unless you liked cartoons at that time.
I’m wondering if Harrison Ford’s character is called John Harrison in the beginning of the movie.
I’m starting to wonder if the film isn’t titled “Star Wars VII: Practical Effects.”
FFS whine cause theres no practical affects, whine if there is…………just grow up you lot and enjoy the moment. wait till the film comes out to judge
AMAZING!!! BUT I COULDN’T WATCH TO THE END. MEGA SPOILER DARKSIDE FEELIN
No Luke YET? Hmmmm. Somethings up that’s for sure. I will go with the cyborg theory. Why the hell are they not showing him then??????
because the rumor is that he shows up as a cameo at the end and has blink and youll miss it screentime. and if they show a shot of him, that will be the whole thing.
almsot didnt come to message board cause just LOVING the 100% pure joy im feeling. tired of many years of social media online nitpickery (yes often justified) but man this feeling is like back when i was a kid and speilberg and lucas just ruled the world and star wars was just awesome. and that was it. pure joy. love it.
I THINK ITS NOT TIME FOR MAKING OF, NOT YET
#MAGICTIME
BUT AWESOME TO SEE IN SUCH {{ ILM ]] FILM CREW WOW J.J. SPIELBERG CLAN
Anyone want to take this over for me, I don’t have the time for it http://www.theforceawakensblog.com/
Looks better than anything Avatar.
Not watched,is it spoliery?should I bother?
Not too spoilery… most spoilery thing in there is a shot with Poe Dameron.
Few other things you could extrapolate if you’ve been following rumours.
Then cover me,I’m going in…….
(cheers pal)
So… How was it, Stumps?
Honestly, my biggest hope for this movie is that the big three share one final moment together. If Han dies and Luke is sitting on a rock on an island planet while terrible things are happening in the galaxy, I’m going to be pretty saddened.
As sad as that would be, it would leave room for some interesting character development with Luke going forward into VIII and IX.
No it is retarded!!!!!!!! Luke being in one scene is retarded!!!!!!!!!! Shut up with this horse crap!!’nmn
look anther lost star trek fan
I’m in Heaven!!! = )
Well we at least got some new scenes in the behind the scenes. Felt very early lucas…which is a good thing IMO
Felt like Phantom Menace Lucas too me. Shooting on location. Combining practical effects with CGI. Using real sets with CGI enhancements. Having puppets, costumed characters with a combination of full or almost full CGI characters. People forget about how Phantom Menace was filmed and lump it in with Clones and Sith.
Ultimately Lucas used too much CGI in the final cut of Menace but this feels like what Menace was looking like early on.
Ya if you’re blind or conveniently forgetting that The Phantom Menace used far fewer practical sets, locations or props/effects. The only shots in TPM that weren’t green screened or otherwise enhanced in post are literally close ups of the actors and some dialogue scenes featuring only real actors on small sets.
It’s not that there weren’t any practical effects used or any sets built, it’s that they green screened nearly 90% of everything to save money.
I think he’s referring to how for Ep. 2 & 3 Lucas turned the CG to 11
Wrong. I’m pretty sure many Mos Espa Tatooine shots were real as well. Not to mention numerous shots of the Queen’s palace in Naboo (Italy.)
And on a side note, you are quicker than a UPS one-day delivery when it comes to making a rebuttal about ANYTHING that casts Phantom Menace in positive light. It kinda annoys me and I wish you would stop it.
These are the real numbers:
The Phantom Menace had between 700 and 800 shots using CG.
Sets were only built as tall as the actors’ heads. The rest of the sets were created using CGI. However, Liam Neeson’s height necessitated the rebuilding of the sets, which cost the production team an extra $150,000.
To be fair, I’d say that The Phantom Menace has very good CG, spacially looking at Watto and the Pod Race. Unfortunately it has many other problems.
Attack of the Clones had more than 2000 CGI shots.
It was the time when Rick McCallum was so proud to say “every single shot in Episode II has CG”. A time where quantity was over quality. A time where The Lord of the Rings was delivering much more convincing CG characters than Star Wars because Peter Jackson was at the service of the story, not of the ego.
Not true.
PT has more sets and practical effects work than OT.
PT was combination of both.
Proof here. First, you need to inform before babbling nonsense.
http://boards.theforce.net/threads/practical-effects-in-the-prequels-sets-pictures-models-etc.50017310/
If “Not true” then please find a pic of *real* clone trooper armor. All that you PT’ers got is that theforce.net link which has been shared to death… just to say “oh look not everything was over the top CGI!”
Do you guys know what real stuff looks like? Do you walk around your house thinking everything looks fake because it’s not CGI? Well if not then stop bitching about how this movie will look real please. The only fans that seem to be unhappy about episode VII are the PT’ers!
1. You do realize that the PT was praised by many people in the film industry for its visuals and effects for its time, right? So you saying it looked bad is really just you being blinded by misguided feelings of nostalgia and being counterintuitive to the popular notions (and just being a plain irrational and delusional PT hater/basher).
2. I’ll direct you to this: http://furiousfanboys.com/2014/05/the-star-wars-prequels-sets-or-green-screen/
3. I’m going to just state this for everyone to see (and this goes for anybody else here too that falls in this category): the ultimate claim – if you didn’t like ROTS, you are a fool and not a true Stat Wars fan! And this is a fact, not an opinion!
*Star Wars
4. You must not have the blu-ray versions of all 6 movies if you say something negative about the effects of the PT.
I was wrong in my favor. Phantom Menace don’t have 700-800 CG shots, it had more than 2000.
Look, this is not from a message board, this is from nothing but Vanity Fair talking about Revenge of the Sith:
“When completed, the new film will comprise some 2,300 separate shots, each of which has at least one special effect—a record number that surpassed the 2,000 effects shots in The Phantom Menace”
The full article here: http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2005/02/star-wars-george-lucas-story
CGI shots themselves aren’t the problem… it’s how they are utilized that’s the problem. Things like laser blasts, light sabers, ships in unfilmable maneuvers, matts, of course you have to use CGI for that.
Up close body armor? Sets that are possible to construct? Probably not going to be CGI if given the opportunity.
It looks like they also went to great pains to make the CGI we do see up close look very good. Maz Kanata’s hand in the trailer #2 does feel very tactile.
The music once again had me in tears, and seeing Leia… same effect as seeing Han and Chewie from the second teaser. I just love the sheer awe and enthusiasm of Daisy and John. I get sad seeing how much the original 3 have aged.
oh my god, it was beautiful!
I’m just so pleased & even more excited than I was before. This is going to be amazing. I love how we still know very little about Luke. They’re definitely keeping him hidden. I love the Honey Monster creature. I love all of this!
Guys – are we not considering the option that LUKE dies? A lá Obi Wan Kenobi?
That would be classic JJ misdirection to leak that Han dies….but it ends up being Luke who sacrifices himself to save the up-and-comers.
No we generally arent. Probably because it’s happened twice already and it’s time to find a new bloody trope.
I prefer that none of the old cast die in VII. I didn’t wait 32 years to catch a funeral – I wanna reunion celebration! xD
Luke is death or they all Think he is
Doubtful. I think he’ll be around at least through the next one.
So no information for MVS character . Snoke, Maz.
What a intriguing set of characters this movie has.
Still a lot of element of surprise, which is a treat .
Not too sure how I feel about Jonah Hill being cast as young Han Solo. Guess i’ll give him a shot
You’d think they’d waste his talent on making him a Storm Trooper? Wouldn’t you say a ‘character’ would suit him better?
Simon Pegg was not wearing a Stormtrooper outfit! He was wearing some kind of alien costume.
That was so cool. It looks and feels right – like Star Wars.
In TPM there was a ton of practical effects and a ton of CGI. The point is n that film it was still somehow balanced, although some scenes went too far then already (battle on Naboo especially). With Episodes II and III Lucas went too far. They feel fake from beginning to end and have not aged well at all.
With TFA they seem to be doing as promised so they are using all the tricks available, as they should! To both make it feel real and make it consistent with the films it follows. It’s sad that Lucas himself made the movies that look most out of place in the saga. Abrams gets it completely, he’s nailing the look and feel. Can’t wait!
I don’t know, some of those shots looked kind of Treky to me.
Nah, they felt Star Wars not Star Trek….. However, the whole thing feels Star Wars 1980s. I just wish some filmmakers can unfreeze themselves like Austin Powers and realize that this is the year 2015, not the 80s.
Enough of the practical effects praising. We get it. Old effects are classic. Can we f’in move on????
What is it with PT fans? Why most of you don’t have a name?
Or is it maybe there’s only one PT fan here, which is Anonymous?
Name does not mean anything, because one person can put different name with every comment.
Soo haters are maybe all just one person.
As for fans just go to the IMDB. You have fan scores there.
PT has alot of fans. All younger generations are PT fans, they grow up watching PT. Just like OT fans in 70’s and 80’s. But only OT fanatics are getting older and older.
Most people like all 6 movies. And new generations will like ST the most.
OT will have less and less fans with years. New people will like new movies, ST, spin-offs.
Just like with Star trek. With every new movie, and every new spin-off series, original star trek series had less and less fans.
Same will happen with OT.
Speak english much?
Most fans like all 6 movies? Um no, MOST fans like the OT and fucking HATE the PT. Your in a very small minority, just accept it and deal with it.
Thanks.
The proof is in the pudding… just look @ the amount of “likes” PT’er comments get vs. OT fanatic comments. If the OT fanbase who dislikes the prequels is just a “vocal minority” then how do you account for the comments in this thread that received 30+ “likes”… while the PT’ers max out @ 7 or so “likes”?
It also seems funny to me how even before the panel showed footage… all the people complaining were PT’ers.
The arrogance of these PT haters/bashers continues to amaze me. They keep telling themselves that people that like the PT are in the minute when in fact the PT haters/bashers are in the minority (yet they’re very loud and vocal on the internet, particularly on that seems to cater to Gen X-ers and older due to the pandering they’re given); and there are various statistics out there to prove this. But again, they continue to stated otherwise because they’re downright irrational and delusional. They Shen let their misguided feelings of nostalgia blind them to continue pushing their opinions as facts but true SW fans see through their BS.
Aras, I’ve seen you on this site posting a lot of crap. You must have no life and if you do, it’s probably pretty sad because from the looks of things, you pretty much bleed hate. So do yourself a favor and get a life for once so that you can be less of a loser.
Keep telling yourself things to make yourself feel better but the majority of the world will just see you as a pathetic person (and this goes to any other PT hater/basher on the Internet).
P.S. You better hope we don’t ever meet in real life because I will make you look like a fool in front of your friends and family, embarrassing you especially in front of your family (and putting you in your place like a little bitch).
P.P.S. “If the OT fanbase who dislikes the prequels is just a “vocal minority” then how do you account for the comments in this thread that received 30+ “likes”… while the PT’ers max out @ 7 or so “likes”?” That’s because this site is mostly full of irrational and delusional PT hating/bashing trolls of the Gen X and older kind (and just a place for general trolls to post in just to rile things up amongst SW fans because that’s all they like to do). Most SW fans like all SW films (despite their flaws and imperfections and yes, the OT had a couple of these as well but still, we love all the films) and this site is not a true reflection of the overall SW fanbase due to the trolling that continues to persist.
SW7N is the ultimate cesspool and harboring nest for PT hating trolls (and just trolls in general). This site makes it seem like there’s almost no true Star Wars fan visiting and posting on this site. This place truly is sad and definitely not a representation of the real world when it comes to the world of Star Wara fandom.
The PT’er-in-denial-butthurt is strong with this one!
I’ll repeat:
If the OT fanbase who dislikes the prequels is just a “vocal minority” then how do you account for the comments in this thread that received 30+ “likes”… while the PT’ers max out @ 7 or so “likes”?
Based on this dude’s response it seems like he’s got a real problem with fellow star wars fans & Star Wars 7.

Irony of the day:
JJ Abrams constantly saying that “visuals are not as important as story”… so he proves his point by saying nothing about the story and slamming us over the head with practial effects.
Yes, because he’s saving the more important thing – the story – for later when we’re in the theater.
Not relying on green screens = better acting.
Better acting = more believable story.
practical effects are anything but practical to anyone who actually worked with them.
Okay, I’ve got it’s practical effects, but I’ve also seen a thing nobody noticed: That ruin-like castle place. we actually have a battle there…
I’m not sure if other people noticed or not… but the scenes with Leia / Oscar Isaac interviews… looks like it could be the Yavin IV base. Or Kanata’s castle.
3:15 Harrison Ford being fucking epic once again. Nice lighting on him by JJ too.
If the pacing and story are good…2 billion bucks at the box office.
The lighting in that shot has a sort of eerie twilight vibe… like some sort of foreshadowing that someone’s story may be coming to an end.
Wish Simon “I love Star Wars” bloody Pegg would just bugger off.
I wish he was a tagalong mech tech / running with solo …why? Because the falcon is that bad off but still badass !!!
Peg is fine and would be great as an unmasked character.
I would like to defend CGI of PT to some degree. How can you realize the fight on the volcano planet. The story demands CGI environment. Volcano fight between Vader and Kenobi was told since 1977. If CGI serves the story , it will be fine. By the same token, you can’t construct Corusant, capital of Galaxy.
You could build a physical miniature set of Coruscant… but for the few brief shots you actually get, it would kind of be a waste.
The primary offender in the overuse of CG in the prequels were the clone troopers. Would it have really hurt to make some practical costumes?
There are also moments where the sets haven’t even had real floors. For example, the scene when Padme falls out of the gunship in AOTC. Why couldn’t they use real sand? Fake ground and fake trooper creates one fake looking scene.
Odd, I can’t “like” your comment.
??
anyways, yeah, there’s actually a moment where you see the Clone Trooper step next to Padme where you can see the foot-print appear a full 10 frames AFTER the foot. It’s really noticeable.
It’s the way in which it was realised not especially that it used loads of CG work. Firstly from a dramatic standpoint it was far too long. Secondly there didn’t seem to be much riding on the whole thing as the storytelling never made Anakin’s “fall” that believable. Thirdly it ending up feeling like one of those Laserdisc video games from the 80’s where they have a lot of over the top stuff whizzing about in the background whilst the main characters look pasted on. Contrast this with the way the Star Trek Into Darkness Volcano interior was done which although smaller in scale was far more realistic. I’d have been happy just to see a shorter fight in that kind of enviroment, although I still praise Lucas for going as far as he did with Anakin’s injuries, that was pretty hardcore for a family movie.
I’m going to just state this for everyone to see (and this goes for anybody else here too that falls in this category): the ultimate claim – if you didn’t like ROTS, you are a fool and not a true Star Wars fan! And this is a fact, not an opinion!
Is it just me or does the creature at 3:03 look like Muffy the Daggit from Battlestar Galactica? ?
I`m 41 years old but that video made me feel like a 10 year old again – thanks guys, that was just best!
I would love to see Asajj Ventress played by Gazelle from Kingsmen. Mark was in the movie and could be a good witness to her acting ability.
I loved this BTS piece. It shows just enough to let us into the production a bit more, without spoiling the plot or going overboard. Yeah, they’ve played the practical effects card pretty hard, but I think it shows real love for the series and the fans.
As for the people griping and complaining about every little detail… whatever you are lacking can’t be fulfilled by any film. Please find more constructive things to focus your energy on.
Personally, I can’t wait to finally go back to that galaxy far, far away this December!!!
btw-Thanks for your great work on this site.
I’m quite satisfied with what they’ve shown so far. If you follow the rumours, you can already piece together a lot of the first act or so of the film…
If there’s anything they could have done more… performing a new piece from the film during the live concert would have been a good addition, especially for the people there.
Prequel haters might want to take note of the new droid which re-uses the pitdroid’s head.
Or..ya know.. R2’s..
A…
M…
B…
Aaaa…
I don’t know what to say…
Motion-capture Puppet: THAT’S A THING??
I didn’t even know that was possible!
And did anyone else notice Leia [presumably Resistance leader] talking directly to Grand Moff Gleeson?
That looks like a good scene.
Chewie still looks odd though :/ guess that’s something I’ll have to accept.
“And did anyone else notice Leia [presumably Resistance leader] talking directly to Grand Moff Gleeson?
That looks like a good scene.”
Are you sure that’s gleeson? Looks like a bearded general to me… not General Hux.
Looked like Poe D to me. Especially since he’s wearing a similar vest in the next shot.
Love how they are releasing very little other than what is talked about on sites like this one. In both teaser trailers and this behind the scenes short all the footage shown is what has been reported so far. They definitely are watching these sites and only letting out what is reported. Roll on December
I find it interesting how Luke STILL hasn’t popped up in on-set footage.
I’m thinking there is some sort of red herring,
a mysterious “old, wise man working behind the scenes”, is it Max or Mark?
I just KNOW their gonna pull something like that.
Why they still keep the identity of Max Von Sidow character. Because he is Boba?
A lot of thing from Making Star Wars site was false, such
as Glesson is Luke in flashback or relative of Tarkin.
TFA’s is gonna look great, but Disney’s decision to put diversity ahead of acting talent will be what ultimately kills the film .
^^What are you talking about? All of the non white actors and actresses in this film are incredibly accomplished. Lupita Nyong’o just won a freaking best supporting actress award in a very serious and challenging role. She is an amazing actress. And John Boyega proved he has acting chops in ‘Attack the Block’. So again, what the hell are you talking about?
-Mylord
Sickening that you assume that actors only got their role because of their minority status, as if there are no worthy candidates of color out there.
Affirmative action my friend.
I was initially disappointed that they weren’t showing a trailer but I really liked this. It really gave me a new perspective on this film and how it’s being made. I mean obviously it was trying to get the whole “practical effects” with an upgrade message across which I already knew but to actually see the sets and techniques they’re using and the lengths they are going to….it made me even more excited for this new trilogy than I already was.
So, no trailer and no film footage: ok I guess (I’ll take the BTS video though)
More talk about practical effects: like it hasn’t been talked about for the umpteenth time (ok, we get it! Nothing wrong with that but it’s nothing new and I’m sure the movie will look great).
Now, how about something else that’s new about TFA? Something that we don’t already know like an official synopsis and/or the opening crawl?
In the behind-the-scenes video at 3:08, JJ and KK are looking at a video screen of what looks like someone using a lightsaber to defend or murder in a hallway of some sort. Any ideas on who this is or what this scene may be??
After watching this my only question is; where did George Lucas go wrong? Why wasn’t Mr. Star Wars himself able to pull this off? Right now I wouldn’t mind to see a remake of Ep1-3. A ‘special edition’ (George Lucas’ style) could easily replace 99% of the scenes.
Ugh, another irrational and delusional PT hating/bashing troll. I’m done dealing with you uneducated and stubborn plebes.
#moviesareaproductoftheirtimes
Darth Mickey is just salty but what else is new? Lol
The 1% is lil ani’s I hate sand spiel
I’m unclear about a few things:
Will there be real sets?
Practical effects?
Is the story emotional?
It’s just a haze and a fog, they need to clarify these points . . .
{Yes, sarcasm}
I’m just going to come out with the following bold statement:
Star Wars isn’t for you Gen X-ers and older folks anymore (particularly those that saw the OT as kids/youth when they were released in theaters). Heck, I’m not even too sure that Stat Wars is for us older Millennials either. All the direct marketing (not this talk about practical effects and whatnot) will be geared towards young adults and youth.
This message is for you Gen X-ers and older folks: you are the reason that the Star Wars franchise can’t evolve (because you aren’t letting it); you are the ones holding the franchise back from evolving.
“Star Wars isn’t for you Gen X-ers and older folks anymore (particularly those that saw the OT as kids/youth when they were released in theaters).”
If that were true, they wouldn’t be focusing so hard on doing things old school and making fans all nostalgic for the franchise.
You just watch this fall. Yeah, they may be talking about practical effects and whatnot right now – because they’re keeping the movie story’s details secret still and because they’re purposely pandering to you Gen X-ers s – but this fall, the marketing for this movie will be heard towards youth and young adults. Your generations is becoming less and less relevant and what I’m taking about will be more evident this fall and for years to come.
Thanks J.J. for the love and the respect to the fans and to Star Wars so far.
I had to cry when I saw the video! Amazing!
Thank you JJ for this. Me and my other 40-something year old brethren are loving what we are seeing. PRACTICAL EFFECTS, PUPPET CREATURES, REAL SETS, TASTEFUL CGI, I love these words. I grew up with the original trilogy, endured the prequel trilogy and now I’m ready to return the the galaxy I remember from a long, long time ago.
