Update! ‘The Acolyte’ Coming Out June 4, Trailer Tomorrow; New Synopsis Revealed

Lucasfilm has officially announced that The Acolyte is coming out on June 4 on Disney Plus. They have also released the first teaser poster and confirmed that the official trailer is coming out tomorrow, as well as released a slightly new synopsis.

The trailer is set to come out on Tuesday at 11am ET/8am PT, according to the official Instagram page. Check out the new poster here:

The release date is definitely interesting, being a Tuesday. Previous reports had said Wednesday, June 5, but does this mean a late-evening release on the 4th, as they did with Ahsoka and their 6pm PT/9pm ET experiment, or is this a Tuesday at midnight case? We will probably find out closer to release. (UPDATE: The official Italian Star Wars Twitter account says June 5, which hints at a 6pm PT/9pm ET release on June 4.)

There’s also been word out there that a featurette or a new look at the show will be tied to The Phantom Menace‘s re-release in theaters on May 3, just one month before the show comes out. We’re getting ahead of ourselves here, but that could also be in anticipation of a second trailer being released online a few days later.

All of that aside, this is a very cool poster that instantly gives us a glimpse of what to expect from the trailer and, later, the show. “In an age of light, a darkness rises” is also a very cool logline. It is a bit reminiscent of The Last Jedi‘s “Darkness rises, and light to meet it” line, but in reverse now.

The story is set 100 years before The Phantom Menace, at the tail end of the High Republic. StarWars.com has also revealed a new synopsis for the show, which contains our first character details:

In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….

Charles Soule, one of the High Republic writers, shared the poster on social media, adding: “The Acolyte is even cooler than you’re hoping. See you June 4, friends”.

The Acolyte is eight episodes long. Amandla Stenberg leads a packed cast that also includes Lee Jung-jae, Jodie Turner-Smith, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, Dafne Keen, Manny Jacinto, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Joonas Suotamo. Leslye Headland is the showrunner and lead writer. We might find out about the final credits tomorrow, but so far, we know that Headland, Jason Micallef, Charmaine DeGraté, Jasmyne Flournoy, Eileen Shim, Claire Klechel, Kor Adana, Cameron Squires, Jocelyn Bioh, and Jen Richards are writing for the show.

Headland, Micallef, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Kathleen Kennedy are executive producers. DeGraté and Adana are co-executive producers, and Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producers.
