Captain Enoch Actor Wes Chatham Speaks About Getting Cast for ‘Ahsoka’ and the Character’s Possible Future

In an interview with Dagobah Dispatch, Entertainment Weekly’s Star Wars-themed podcast, the actor behind the mysterious Captain Enoch discussed what casting was like for Ahsoka. He also hints that there is more to come for the character.

Wes Chatham plays Grand Admiral Thrawn’s second-in-command, Captain Enoch. Before this, Chatham also starred in the sci-fi series The Expanse, playing the character Amos Burton. While his character in Ahsoka had limited screen time, many fans took to Captain Enoch thanks to his sharp design and creepy gold helmet.

The character’s design and its calling to Arthurian legend was something that both Wes Chatham and Dave Filoni talked about:

“When I saw the Captain Enoch uniform for the first time, it reminded me of Excalibur. And I remember having a conversation with Dave Filoni and he was excited that I picked up that detail.”

But before seeing the designs, Chatham explains how there was much secrecy behind his auditions. Even then, however, he describes humorously how it took little convincing for him to be part of the show:

“When we found out that it was an audition for Star Wars and they wanted me to go do a suit test in L.A., we asked all the questions that you ask. It’s like, ‘What is the role? What is this? What is the time commitment?’ And they’re like, ‘Sorry, we can’t give you any of that. Do you want to come out and test or not?’ And I was like ‘Yeah, I’m coming out.’ And I told my team, ‘Listen, don’t count on me to be a tough negotiator because as soon as I show up and as soon as I see stormtroopers and things like that, they have me. I’m not coming home.’”

And even while on set, it appears Chatham’s glee never went away. He also explains that he is excited about what Filoni is creating and has a deep veneration for him and his work:

“You’re standing in the hangar bay of a Star Destroyer that you’ve watched your whole life and stormtroopers are walking by, so it was walking into a dream that I got to be a part of the thing. And it was exhilarating. It was some of the most fun I’ve ever had. …

I have a lot of respect for Dave Filoni. I have a lot of respect for what he’s done, what he’s doing with Star Wars and for Star Wars. And so to be something that he created and a wholly original thing is really exciting and really compelling.”

Lastly, Chatham hints at Captain Enoch having more to do in the future. He cites how Thrawn introduced Captain Enoch solely out of his group, pointing to the character’s importance:

“I think the potential of this character is exciting. There are some vague hints. There has to be a reason that that character is there. Thrawn introduced one person.”

Hopefully, with the announcement of Ahsoka season 2 in the works, fans can see more of Captain Enoch’s history and importance. But for now, feel free to check out my editorial on Captain Enoch as I speculate what the character’s design and name could mean for the character.
