Rosario Dawson Is Already Campaigning for ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2; Talks About How the Character’s Traumas Have Shaped Her Into Who She Is Now

Speaking to Empire Magazine for their upcoming issue on Disney Plus’ Ahsoka series, Rosario Dawson talked about her experience playing the character and how she relates to and understands her on a deep level despite having only played her for a few years of the character’s existence.

Dawson described the character as follows:

“I love how confident she is. She’s not fearless, but she never hesitates. She is so willing, but she does have worries, she does have stress and she’s gone through a lot of anxiety. She’s had some really tough crises and traumas in her life. I really dig how complex she is. Even her moments of just finding her way, and butting heads, and being stubborn, and being wrong; having to deal with the pain of what that is when soldiers are dying under her command.”

She is obviously referencing a lot of moments from Ahsoka’s past, portrayed in animation and voiced by Ashley Eckstein, but it seems like it’s something she took with her when playing the character in live-action. The actress also talked about her responsibility in carrying on with the work Eckstein did and now bringing it to a larger audience:

“Getting the opportunities to embody her more and more, and collaborating with everyone as things have shifted and developed and progressed… it’s just been amazing. That same sort of excitement that I saw on people’s reaction videos [to her inaugural Mandalorian appearance] is how I keep feeling every day when I look in the mirror and get to do what I get to do… If anything, it’s only ramped up.”

The actress already hinted at Star Wars Celebration in April that a second season was certainly not out of the question, and a later story by The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that it was a matter of how the first one performed on Disney Plus. Speaking to Empire, Rosario Dawson has already started to campaign for a second season, much like she threw her hat in the ring a few years ago to play the character in live-action:

“I’m absolutely putting it out into the universe. We’re joking about it, but I’m manifesting it because I feel like I helped Dave [Filoni] manifest this role. So I’m ready. I’m excited. I’m willing. I got my ice-packs ready to go for Season 2 and beyond! I would not be mad at that.”

With the character being Filoni’s baby, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that she will have a key presence in the upcoming feature film that will culminate the events of the New Republic Era shows, and which Dave Filoni is directing.

The issue of Empire Magazine with all of this coverage on Ahsoka will come out on Thursday, June 8, and includes snippets from conversations with Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lars Mikkelsen, Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, and Diana Lee Inosanto. The series is currently targeting an August release date; we might find out which day exactly over the next few weeks.
