New Look At ‘Ahsoka’ Coming This Weekend to Essence Festival of Culture

It might be hard to believe, but next week it will be three months since the first trailer for Ahsoka hit. As we enter the final two-month countdown for the series, we are now within range of a second trailer hitting for the series. We don’t know yet if this is it, but Disney has announced that a special look at the show will be previewed this weekend during the 2023 ESSENCE Festival of Culture, which takes place in New Orleans from June 29 to July 3.

The confirmation was made on the Walt Disney Company’s official website, which listed several ways of how the studio will participate in the upcoming event, of which it is the main entertainment sponsor. One of the offerings they will have in Louisiana will be a studio showcase done across several panels during the weekend. In the website’s own words:

“The cast [of Haunted Mansion] will take part in events and panels on Saturday and Sunday that also include special looks at the new Disney Plus series Star Wars: Ahsoka and Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming musical feature Wish, starring Ariana DeBose.”

Details are sparse, of course, and this could very well be something private to event attendees. But it would make sense for Disney to debut there the second official trailer for Ahsoka, one that will offer a bigger hint at the story of the show. It’s possible they will hold it a few days in fear it might draw less traffic over the weekend, or post it online right away to avoid low-quality leaks.

Of course, that’s assuming this is a new trailer and not a behind-the-scenes look or even a scene from the show. The timing makes sense, though. The Mandalorian season 2 dropped its official trailer on September 15, 2020, a month and a half before its October 30 premiere. The Book of Boba Fett did the same on November 1, 2021, ahead of its December 29 debut. Obi-Wan Kenobi was the exception and waited to drop the main trailer just three weeks before the show aired, though that’s because they dropped the promo on May The Fourth of last year. The Deborah Chow-directed series was also the first Star Wars live-action series to do more than one trailer ahead of release.

Later in 2022, Andor revealed its main trailer on August 1 ahead of the series’ three-episode debut on September 21, and then this year, The Mandalorian season 3 showed off its second trailer on the night of January 15; the first episode of the season started airing on March 1. With Ahsoka set for an August 23 debut, history tells us it’s only a matter of days before we get our second and final trailer for the show. After that, we’ll be hit by a constant stream of interviews and 30-second spots that will start to further preview the series, one shot at a time.

Dave Filoni wrote all eight episodes and directed between two and three of them. Stay tuned for more coming soon!
