‘The Acolyte’ Season 1 To Potentially Run for Eight Episodes

The upcoming Star Wars live-action series The Acolyte is currently shooting in the UK and Madeira, Portugal, and we are learning more details about it practically every week now.

According to the CV of intimacy coordinator Adelaide Waldrop (hat tip to The Direct), The Acolyte could be at least eight episodes long, as she lists the series as “8×60”, implying that she worked on eight episodes of the series. The notation is a bit ambiguous here; Waldrop lists other series where she worked on a specific number of episodes, while in others it seems as if it’s listing all episodes of the season. The likely scenario is that it will be an eight-episode season, but we are not ready to definitively call it yet.

Another interesting detail is that they are listing them as 60-minute episodes, though we shouldn’t put too much weight on that. Listing the episodes as hour-long is standard practice for the TV industry, which is used to differentiate between half-hour and hour-long shows. The Acolyte is still shooting, and until Leslye Headland and her team get into the editing room and start putting together the footage they have, it is almost useless to assume the episodes of the series will have a specific length.

As far as the hiring of an intimacy coordinator goes, there’s nothing really surprising here. This doesn’t necessarily imply that there are going to be two sex scenes per episode, or even in the entire series. Hiring an intimacy coordinator is just standard practice in Hollywood whenever two actors share each other’s intimate space, particularly for romantic (though not necessarily sexual) scenes. Andor probably had to hire one to mediate in the scenes between Cassian and Bix, for example. If anything, this could hint at a romantic relationship that would involve one of the two leads, given Waldrop’s involvement in so many episodes.

In other Acolyte news, a few days ago, we got confirmation from the lawsuit that producer Karyn McCarthy filed against Lucasfilm, that the studio intends for the series to run for multiple seasons. A series overview was written when the writers’ room was developing the first season, indicating that they have an overall plan of where the characters are going.

Amandla Stenberg plays the lead role in The Acolyte, a mystery thriller set roughly 100 years before The Phantom Menace that will explore the dark side of the Force and how the Jedi were blindsided by an emerging threat in the lead-up to the events of the Skywalker Saga. The series is expected to be shooting until the end of April/beginning of May, and could premiere on Disney Plus during the first half of 2024. We will probably get more details on it during Star Wars Celebration.
