Rosario Dawson on Possible Fall 2023 Release for ‘Ahsoka’

We’ve known for some time that Ahsoka is coming this year, but little else is known about exactly when.

In an interview with TODAY, when asked about what’s coming next for her, Rosario Dawson revealed that she believes the upcoming live-action Star Wars series Ahsoka will come out on Disney Plus this fall. She said:

Ahsoka, yeah, that’s probably gonna come out in the fall. We’re gonna have Haunted Mansion come out in August first, and I just did some beautiful Disney Plus commercial voice-over. And I’m like, have I just become a Disney Princess?”

Now, if there is one thing we’ve learned over the past year and a half of Star Wars news coverage is to never trust the actors, particularly Rosario Dawson and Temuera Morrison. Remember when Morrison hinted we’d be seeing Ewoks in The Book of Boba Fett? Or when he said we’d be getting flashbacks to Empire Strikes Back in that show? Also, remember when Dawson reshared on social media an article saying Mena Massoud had been cast as Ezra Bridger in Ahsoka, something we now know is not true? It’s also not the first time an actor incorrectly states a release window for an upcoming Star Wars series — in April of 2022, Giancarlo Esposito said in a similar interview that we’d be getting The Mandalorian season 3 in the summer, when filming had just wrapped a few days earlier.

However, she might actually be in the know this time around, precisely because of the Haunted Mansion window she talked about. The Justin Simien-directed live-action film was recently promoted to fill the gap left by The Marvels and will now open on July 28, if for no other reason than the fact she will need to schedule time to promote the series. Because both projects are Disney’s, maybe the studio was an advocate to have Haunted Mansion first so that they can benefit from reporters asking about Ahsoka on the press tour for the live-action film. With that in mind, “fall” seems like a very broad window, and could include anytime between September and November.

Trying to figure out the schedule is a headache in and of itself, mostly because streaming does not abide by the same rules as the theatrical exhibition industry. We also know that Lucasfilm intends to release Skeleton Crew by the end of the year, but that could either mean a release in late December or even turn into a January 2024 date — after all, The Mandalorian season 3 was originally announced to be a February 2023 release. There is also an argument to be made about the in-platform competition with Marvel Studios’ programming, but even that is a giant question mark at this point, and was not a concern for them when last year they had She-Hulk and Andor air on consecutive days over many weeks.

We will get definitive news on the release date for Ahsoka during Star Wars Celebration, when the first trailer for the series will likely debut. Rosario Dawson stars as Ahsoka Tano and is joined by Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, in what is being marketed as Star Wars Rebels season 5 (now in live-action!). We already know that Chopper and Hera appear in the series, and according to reports, Eman Esfandi (The Inspection) will play Ezra Bridger.

Stay tuned for more Ahsoka news coming soon!
