‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Is More Expansive Than Ever Before, Teases Giancarlo Esposito

In a recent interview with Collider, Giancarlo Esposito, who plays the evil Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian, had the chance to hype up the third season by speaking about the way it will expand the world set up by the first two. The actor, who is currently promoting Netflix’s new heist drama series Kaleidoscope, praised Favreau and Filoni’s vision and the way they were able to build upon the mythology and the scope of the previous seasons with the third installment.

Here’s what the actor said, when asked to compare season 3 to the previous two:

“I just think that the show gets more expanded and more visually profound with each season. And I think it’s the vision of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni that begins that expansion, but it’s also all of the artisans that they trust to collaborate with them. I was blown away by that sizzle reel. All of the sudden, the world just came at you in a much more intense and… It’s always been gratifying but in a way that allowed you to know… You know that feeling that you have of dread or doom or excitement personified? That’s the feeling you get because the story is all of the sudden being coalesced for you to understand all of the elements that you didn’t know about.

So I love [that] the mythology that goes behind this show is incorporated into all of the visuals that seem to be filmic. And I love the fact that you’re able to see, with each episode this season, you’re really turning on a new movie. Visually, it’s a sight and sound extravaganza that expands you to a place that… You know, we can say a lot of words about a lot of different things. Just like Kaleidoscope. But I think when you watch it you have the space to feel the emotion and connection between characters. [In] The Mandalorian you have the space to feel the largeness of this universe, of this world-building, and you have the space to see where you fit in. God I wish I could be that warrior, that hero, that heroine. And we see that weakness and the power of the villainous that want for themselves and not for the whole. What I love about this show is that our army is about all of us, who are starting to understand once again, it’s for the people and by the people. And if stand up and allow our voices to be heard and understand our strength in numbers, we can then recreate the world as it should be. In peace, harmony, and creatively, scientifically, and politically, a way for us to understand that there are no borders anymore.

And so The Mandalorian exemplifies all of that, and this season is off the chain!”

The Mandalorian season 3 - Moff Gideon

We are now less than three months away from the release of The Mandalorian season 3, and the marketing campaign is about to take off. The new episodes will debut on Disney Plus on March 1st, with showrunner Jon Favreau taking on writing duties on all of them. Dave Filoni co-wrote two episodes with Favreau, and The Book of Boba Fett staff writer Noah Kloor co-wrote one with him too. The main gang is back together, including Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin, Carl Weathers’ Greef Karga, Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan, Emily Swallow’s the Armorer, and of course, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon. The full list of directors is currently unknown, but we are aware of Weathers, Rick Famuyiwa, and Bryce Dallas Howard returning. Favreau recently teased that many of previous seasons’ directors are coming back, so that sets up the possibility of Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez returning too.
