New ‘Star Wars Jedi’ Books Announced; Original Novel to Bridge the Gap Between Games

Two brand-new books set in the world of the Star Wars Jedi video games have been announced in preparation for the launch of Survivor sometime next year. Also, with this bit of news, we now can better predict when the game might be coming.

StarWars.com has revealed an original novel titled Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars is coming from author Sam Maggs. The novel reunites us with Cal Kestis and the Mantis crew during the five-year gap between Fallen Order and Survivor. The book arrives March 7th, 2023.

Maggs doesn’t have an extensive Star Wars curriculum, but was a writer on IDW’s Star Wars Adventures comic series and had a short story in the recently released Stories of Jedi and Sith collection. She was also a writer on the Knights of the Old Republic remake at one point before leaving the project.

The other reveal isn’t a surprising one — coming from Dark Horse, The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will hit shelves May 2nd, 2023. If you’ve purchased an art book in the past, expect the usual massive helping of details on behind-the-scenes development, concept art, and much more.

As mentioned above, these release dates might give us an idea of when the game is coming out. Typically, with major projects that have ancillary media tie-ins, Lucasfilm likes to release those beforehand. An early March release on a prequel novel might give credence to a late March release, per evidence pointing to such a window. Art books also tend to be released after their subject matter comes out, meaning we should at the very least get the game next spring. Moreover, there is a chance we’ll get an official date during D23’s Games Showcase.
