UPDATE: John Favreau is Voicing an Alien Character in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Character Confirmed!
A few days ago Iron Man and The Jungle Book director John Favreau tweeted a picture with him standing with Solo: A Star Wars Story director Ron Howard and writer Lawrence Kasdan. Many people were wondering what this was all about, and now Howard himself revealed the reason!

And here’s Howards new message, announcing that Favreau will be voicing an important alien character in Solo:
Wondering why we r all together? @Jon_Favreau is voicing a very cool & important alien character for #HanSolo Flattered & fortunate I could pull him away from his #LionKing directing duties https://t.co/W5N7YoAlq6

Howard was asked by a fan if he has a cameo in Solo, and he was clear that unlike his brother Clint, he will not appear in his own movie:
Nope :-). Zero chance. But thanks for asking https://t.co/cxKCIWpZ6m

As you know, right now Favreau is busy directing another Disney movie – The Lion King, and in the past many fans speculated that he would be a good fit for a Star Wars stand alone movie. With so many new Star Wars projects coming in the following years do you think Favreau should get a chance to direct one of them?

Favreau doesn’t seem to mind if people know which character he will be voicing in Solo: A Star Wars Story as he just sent out the following tweet!

So there you have it folks, this monkey-looking creature is officially so money and it doesn’t even know it!

His track record is actually pretty good. He’s directed 8 full length feature movies. Of the 6 I’ve seen, they ranged from really good (Iron Man, and Chef) to ok (Iron Man 2, and Cowboys and Aliens). I haven’t seen him direct a bad movie yet.
So, I don’t see a reason why he shouldn’t get the chance to direct some kind of SW movie.
He makes a good adventure flick. He’d need something that was off the beaten path I think; something that he can do what he wants with without worrying about previous Star Wars lore and getting to forge his own narrative.
I never did watch Cowboys and Aliens, I heard it was not very good. Opinion?
Cowboys and Aliens is not great but almost none of it is Favreau’s fault. He made a very good-looking movie with a few solid performances. Just don’t make movies based on vague comic book elevator pitches.
Thanks.
Pretty much as John DiLillo said below. Favreau took a shot at blending both the western, and alien invasion genre, but didn’t quite pull it off. A slightly above average movie that is worth a watch on Netflix if nothing else takes your fancy.
Favreau is awesome!
Who the fuck is John Favreau? This is why I love Star Wars, helping unknown artists to come out the shadows.
Unknown?
Listen, if Star Wars can do for him what Kanye did for that Paul McCartney fellow, then I’m all for it.
Who’s Paul McCartney? Oh yeah, he was in Pirates or something, right?
What few people know is that Jon Favreau secretly still produces Dinner For Five — he just stopped inviting the other four people to the table.
I love, and dearly miss, that show.
Hollywood has changed so much in the last few years, it feels weird looking back at the re-runs. If some of those guests only knew where their crazy lives were headed…
Huh?
Director of the first two Iron Man films.
Oh… I never realized there were 2 films before the 3rd one. Far out.
Here’s to hoping his voicework is on a higher plane than Joseph Gordon Leavit in TLJ.
Cameos are fine, when they are like Daniel Craig in TFA or even directors. But goofy alien voices, bad drunk cgi aliens (thanks Mark)…just fucking don’t
who did Lewitt voice? didn’t have a chance to see it in english
The alien talking to the police in Canto Bight about “I told those two you can’t park on the beach” or whatever he said. It was all downhill from there for me after that.
Ugh that was his part? Damn I hated that alien
Ohhhhh. So you only hate on cameos from movies that you don’t like. BANDWAGON ALERT! BANDWAGON ALERT!
Well, I like TLJ so…
No. What I mean is I don’t like goofy, prequel aliens. Both Joseph Gordon Leavitt”s alien cameo and Mark Hamill’s alien cameo…both were PT silliness.
I’m really sorry but those uncanny, glowing red eyes are creepier than Palpatine’s! Kasdan is particularly disturbing. Couldn’t they find a better photo???
Give the man a SW movie!!
YESSSSSS
Who voices Jabba and greedo?
