Woody Harrelson Gives His Take on the Han Solo Drama

While promoting War for the Planet of the Apes in New York, Woody Harrelson was asked by Uproxx‘s Mike Ryan about the recent drama that has unfolded in the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars spinoff film. While his answers were predictably safe and neutral, they certainly don’t lack his signature tongue-in-cheek humor and expression.

Mike Ryan of Uproxx was able to ask Harrelson about the recent drama that has occurred with the production of Han Solo, namely the changing of director’s from Lord and Miller to Ron Howard. Before asking him about the production, Ryan discovered that Woody was unaware set photos were leaked by TMZ, leading him to showing the actor the leaked photos, much to Woody’s shock:

First of all, he had no idea a set photo had been leaked on Sunday (to the point I had to show it to him) and he did seem legitimately shocked how close up the picture is. I asked him if the announcement of a veteran director like Ron Howard can have a calming effect on a production that seems a bit, let’s say, “chaotic.”

Harrelson sat back in his chair, a smile beaming ear to ear on his face, and said, “Oh, you can relax, man – because obviously the Force is with us.” Then burst into the kind of laugh that only Woody Harrelson can do.

Harrelson flipped the sincerity switch to give praise to Howard, whom he has worked with before:

When he was done laughing, Harrelson, who has worked with Ron Howard before on 1999’s EDtv added, “Ron is great. He’s awesome. He’s such a gentleman and so prepared.”

A veteran of the industry, Woody wouldn’t stop before making sure he wasn’t burning any bridges, acknowledging his enjoyment working with the recently jettison directing team of Lord and Miller:

Harrelson was also quick to add praise for his former directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, “And I loved Chris and Phil. But I think we did land in very capable hands.”

Harrelson plays Beckett in the upcoming Han Solo film, and has recently clarified that his character is not really a mentor to Han, but a criminal who more or less teaches Han a few things along the way. Sounds like we may see who influences Han in the ways of becoming a swindling soundrel!

As stated in the Uproxx article, Harrelson is in New York for the event promoting the new ‘Apes’ film. Harrelson also posted a shot in Central Park on his Instagram account here. In conjunction with this, Ron Howard recently tweeted a photo stating he is in the editing room for Han Solo:

With Woody in New York and newly hired director Ron Howard in the editing room, it would appear that Howard had been establishing what they have to work with before shooting resumed. We just found out that shooting did resume today with Harrelson scheduled to rejoin production Wednesday.

We never figured Woody would say anything negative, so the answers are expected, but do his answers calm your nerves a bit? Woody is typically a cool cat so any time we get a chance to hear from him it puts us at ease. Sound off in the comments below and head to the Cantina to talk about it!

Come find me on Twitter to talk about this @JohnnyHoey and at our Resistance Broadcast account @RBatSWNN as we’ll surely talk about this on this week’s episode!

It would have been funnier if Chris Miller hadn’t done it first 😉

I think the movie will be fine. It’s not going to change the world, but once we start seeing trailers and all the star warzy stuff in it, interest will peak a bit.

The movie will come out good or meh, but after that we can just move a long.

Shit happens, and when something continues long enough, you’re going to get some stinkers along the way despite some people’s best intentions

This movie is years in preparation, each new Avenger movie led to this: Avenge, Infinity War. No matter what, ou how many directors, Infinity Wars will be a good movie. A movie with Thanos can’t be bad

Now that all the hysteria has died down, and the movie has now resumed filming with Ron Howard in the director’s chair, it wouldn’t surprise me if this movie was released in May as intended.

“Not a mentor to Han, but a criminal who more or less teaches Han a few things along the way” Umm, so he IS a mentor, maybe not for a long time but indeed mentors him in some areas.

Always a father figure in SW there is:

      Ep 1: Qui-Gon Jinn
      Ep 2 – 6: Obi-Wan/Yoda (to a lesser effect)
      Ep 7: Han Solo
      Ep 8: Luke Skywalker
      Rogue One: Saw Gerrera

This makes me sad because using this above info ^, it is very possible Beckett is going bye-bye by the film’s last act.

According to Disney anyone who is in a movie and you don´t see him/her onscreen in the next chronological movies is automatically dead, so you can pretty much assume that at least Woody and Emilia will die 🙂

I’m sure most of the cast are happy to have Howard there now. He’s got a great reputation as a director and he seems like a really good dude.
