Indeed so. Great to see him make another appearance in Rebels.

It will be interesting to see how this episode will be handled. Will the whole episode lead up to Kallus being exposed and imprisoned/killed? Or will he be exposed early in the episode and rescued (bait for a trap?) by the Rebels?

The synopsis states that the rebels become afraid that Kallus will be discovered and try to extract him. The extraction will probably be the bulk of the episode’s run time.

I hope that’s not the case…hoping we see his mastery of strategy play out better than it has been so far. Maybe they should let Zahn write the episode concerning the character???

If the LEGO set in the recent wave, 75170 The Phantom is any indication, it’s Thrawn versus Kanan.

Sounded like Thrawn said “Rukh” for his code word. Rukh was the name of his Noghri assassin in the Heir to the Empire trilogy. He’s the one that kills him in the end. Nice little nod if that’s indeed what he said.

Thrawn struck me as someone far more “Masculine” when I read Timothy zahn trilogy. This one is too smal, and thin, with a mousy voice. I would like to see more proof of his tactical genius in the series too. He is not just any run of the mill Imperial Officer.

So you define masculinity by physical strength and appearance?

      That’s a shame.

I think Markus is trying to say that he imagined Thrawn as being of bigger build with a deeper voice.

I know exactly what he is trying to say – that masculinity is, at least in part, defined by how visually imposing one is.

If you’re referring to “having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with men.”….don’t you see that it’s a perception and society based definition and not fixed? It’s what society says it is, or rather what you have been brought up to believe, and I’m saying that a strong male character need not need to look like a bodybuilder to be masculine. For me, what defines masculinity is not limited by the physical.

Well, then you have a different definition of masculinity that isn’t found in the dictionary I referenced. When most people say “masculine” they mean the traditional “manly-man” stereotypes: machismo, strength, aggression, etc. I agree that doesn’t necessarily define what it means to be a man, but that’s not what the word masculine means.

The definition of masculinity is not fixed, but differs greatly from culture to culture. Anyone not of a small mind knows this.

Someone needs to tell the dictionary writers then. Usually, when people say “masculine” they mean “stereotypically manly”.

I just meant, that he was manly, with a strong manly charisma. I don’t know how to better explain it. Think Clint Eastwood or Kurt Russell 🙂

That is the word for what you are describing. Some people get triggered by the dictionary.

            How do you define “manly”?

I dunno. I think so much of this is based on what society tells us is “manly”. But what of intelligence, self confidence, reliability and so on? They cannot be judged by appearance, but they can most certainly impact the strength of a character or person.

On the contrary! In the books Thrawn is such a wuss, he never fights!

Thrawn’s cunning and tactical genius needs to go to work before he becomes boring. I love his menace, but he’s losing the appeal he once had for me. Seems very under used in Rebels.
