This is awesome and exciting news! I’m loving all the love the Saw has been getting lately, between Rogue One and the various novels.

This is brilliant. Saw in Rogue One left me feeling intrigued & really wanting to know more about his story.

I’d love to see a comic series with Saw and Jyn before she gets left behind. I’m thinking something like the Cabel arc in Marvel Comics when he’s traversing across time with a young Hope Summers. I think that’d be really fun!

I think it’s wonderful how the Star Wars universe keeps expending through the
Clone Wars and Rebels series as well as all these great new films. I’ve fallen
in love with Star Wars all over again. = )

a very solid rumor that Vader and Saw had a battle scene(flashback) that was cut from the movie. Apparently it showed Vader brutally destroying Saw and the reason for Saw being in the condition that he is. It is said that Disney thought it to be way too violent and wanted it cut..if it is true, what a shame.

I’ve thought for years that we needed a movie set maybe 5 or 10 years from ROTS…Which shows Vader tracking down and hunting the surviving Jedi. Much as Obi-wan described in ANH. After seeing his action scene in this movie, I am certain that it would be YUGE!!!!

i find that unlikely based on what we did see vader do in the film. if it was cut it was likely for time.

A very solid? How? We’ve confirmed with our sources that this rumor is 100% false.

It certainly makes sense from a story perspective…and the changes we’ve seen in the characters from initial trailers, to the movie, certainly shows some evidence of a change.

I’d read this on a French site, or at least that’s were it originated from. Only time will tell if it’s 100%.

No, it’s complete bullshit. You’ll see why on Rebels (because Saw doesn’t have a breathing problem at that point in time, which is long after he and Jyn parted ways), and a general understanding of existing continuity tells us that it’s not true. As far as we know, the only scenes of Darth Vader that were cut involved him standing around inside the Death Star and talking to Krennic.

Good that it is. As nice as it might be, the whole flow of the film and buildup of Vader would be nonexistent and meaningless then.

Everyone thats ever made a film has shot around the idea that it is and and then whats edited is called “a movie.” Star Wars is special but it doesnt sit outside the mechanics of actually making a movie.

Why would Vader leave him alive though? It would need to be a very narrow, lucky escape.

Yeah, very narrow. Or he left him as Obi-Wan left Anakin…thinking he was done.

It wasn’t. The scene was never a part of the movie, period, because it was never even in the script. The decision to have Saw’s appearance on Rebels – without the supposed Vader-caused injuries at a later point in the timeline – came before filming on Rogue One even began.

      This actually makes sense.

In the original trailer, Saw’s line about “What will you..become.” appears to be an obvious allusion to his own condition. He’s essentially a Rebel version of Vader, more machine than man and twisted by his anger and hatred due to the losses he has suffered in his fight for his own ideals.

At some point, he lost who he was and turned into this crazy Partisan leader with his contingent of hardcore resistance fighters. Based on the fact that they also changed Jyn’s narrative from being this over zealous Rebel herself to something more tame, seems like this entire story line was completely canned.

Don’t get me wrong, Rogue One is a pretty damn dark film the way it stands now, but I think the rumors were true now. It was even darker, and Disney brightened it up a bit.

Saw’s Frank Booth-like breathing problems don’t start until what happens on Geonosis. Darth Vader has nothing to do with that, and the rumor about the cut footage is completely false.

I’m sure that’s true, doesn’t change the fact they had something different intended for Saw and Jyn. Or is it Jynn.

It’s Jyn. And yes, they did cut out a subplot (read: flashback) that would have expanded Saw’s role in the movie, but it wouldn’t have involved Darth Vader. That much is apparent in the previews.

Let me frame it to you in another way – ignoring the massive amount of continuity issues such a scene would cause, would that minute or so of Darth Vader action have nearly the same kind of impact on you as a viewer if you got 20-30 minutes of it at an earlier point in the film? The answer is obvious: no, it wouldn’t!

This is not Rogue One: A Darth Vader Story. It was never meant to be a Darth Vader story. It’s just a story where he has a small but crucial role to play. Our sources have already told us that this is a fake story, pure and simple. Your guy got duped. It happens to the best of us.

And if true, since the movie works so well, it was likely for the better

Didn’t say it was for better or worse, I just feel like they’re still kind of hiding why they made the changes they did and how much was actually changed.

And the movie works well enough, but I do feel like Jyn was fairly shallow as a character. If they did cut out edgier Jyn material, it left her feeling rather plain as she didn’t feel all that well put together when she’s found at the beginning of the movie. And then her transition to Rebel hero who leads a renegade strike team…Why? I guess they painted her as abandoned and left to drift by her family, and she seemed to sort of blame the Rebellion for being part of that. She didn’t want to fight. And then she did. I dunno. Just left me feeling blah on her.

Well, it’s like a draft of book; you don’t reveal the stuff that you felt wasn’t up to par. It’s not hiding. It’s part of the natural process of creating.

I agree she is thinly written, but the reason she wanted to fight is so her father’s sacrifice would not be in vain. He put this flaw in the death star and she wants to make sure it is acted on.

See, now that gives me a better frame for her. Thank you. I just, I could feel the edits and reshoots through out the film. Especially since I watched those trailers so much.

And I was really looking forward to the Jyn that was promised and we got one much more chill. She did a great job, either way (Jones), I’m just a teensy bit sad they decided to mellow her out. Maybe it was too much, just like a silly caricature of Weaver’s Ripley. Ah well. Still a good flick.

They’ve set up their template for continued profitability and its working. Its an improvemnet so far of the Marvel franchise. Tweaked. Can think of 100 movies that could have had edits youve described and they’ve done two awesome things….

        Made money greater than expected
Maintained the brand with skill by neither diluting it with crap (first season of Rebels (or Marvel) or making it fancy and dreary and superfan-y. Although I bet thats what was filmed.

Its not dreary. People die everyday. Even at Disneyworld.

God bless them. Disney – not dead people. They lost – its too late to Bless dead people

Let the saga go on and on. Theyve got roman numerals for the all the numbers it turns out. Except 50. No one knows what L means
