Rumor: What Will Be Included in the Force Friday 2016 Toy Launch.

Force Friday

As many of you know, Force Friday is shaping up to become an annual Star Wars merchandising event, with a new event being held in 2016 to commemorate the release of Rogue One. Jedi Temple Archives just ran into a plethora of information concerning what products we’ll see at launch, including what appear to be a few new character names.

Key information presented in the article includes:

  • The event might not be called “Force Friday”, but it will still be the same kind of event.
  • Certain products will be available for pre-order.
  • There will be fewer products launching for Rogue One than there were for the Force Friday launch of The Force Awakens.
  • There will be only one wave of Black Series 6″ toys available at the event, featuring Rey (Jakku), Kylo Ren (Unmasked), Jyn Erso (Jedha), Cassian Andor (Eadu), K-2SO, and the Imperial Death Trooper. A second wave will arrive in November, featuring Director Krennic, a Scarif Stormtrooper, C-3PO (The Force Awakens), and Princess Leia Organa.
  • No Super-Articulated 3.75″ toys will be available, other than a Walmart-exclusive line. There will be one wave of 5POA 3.75″ toys available for Force Friday, which will include Jyn Erso (I), K2SO, Kanan Jarrus (Stormtrooper), Imperial Grand Crer [sic], Imperial Stormtrooper, Sabine Wren, and Kylo Ren. In November, a wave made up of Chirrut ÃŽmwe, Princess Leia (Rebels), Jyn Erso (II), Director Krennic, Captain Cassian Andor, Rey, and Darth Vader will arrive.
  • Class I Vehicles: Assault Walker, Ezra Bridger’s Speeder, and AT-DP Pilot with Speeder.
  • Class II Vehicles: FO Snowspeeder repack, A-wing with Hera, Y-wing Scout Bomber with Kanan, and another vehicle with no clear product name.
  • Lastly, Deluxe 2-Packs will be a part of the toy line, with Death Trooper/Rebel Commando Tao, Scarif Stormtrooper/Moroff, and Officer Blue Squad Leader/HB Officer being the specific combinations. (The first two are explicitly tied to Rogue One, while that last one is tied to The Force Awakens.)

For the full report, look here. In general, it sounds as though they’ll be saving more toys for November, closer to the movie’s launch. “Commando Tao” and “Moroff” sound like new characters, so that’s certainly interesting. As the original article-writer dryly noted, “as with any rumor, take this with a grain of salt until never confirmed by Hasbro.”

Sounds terrible. Re-packs and a few new items. Let’s hope Fantasy Flight Games surprises us with a cool Rogue One X-Wing set.

Since they’ve announced Wave 10 at GenCon (slated for a late 2016 release), they might tag on the new Tie and U-wing as part of it like they did with the TFA expansion ships in Wave 8.

What’s your thoughts on Wave10? I knew Kylo’s ship was coming, but the Sabine Tie and Quad Jumper caught me off guard. I would have guessed the rebel carrier that Leia came in on from TFA and the Guavian Death Gang’s ship for Scum.

I’ve seen some bitterness and anger at the Quad Jumper since the ship was on screen for seconds before being blown up. But hey, there are a ton of EU ships in X-Wing that come from properties I dislike and I’m still happy to own them. We’ll see how the ship plays.

Kylo’s shuttle looks tight, I’m interested in seeing how the new conditions work out on the board. I like Kylo’s. It’s been noted that a card that allows someone to search through a deck isn’t original, but I think it fits Ren’s theme.

I like the Rebels stuff, period, coming into X-Wing and Armada because I’m a big fan of the show. But the TIE feels off. It feels like a gimmick, and I don’t know how useful it’s going to be alone on the board with a bunch of other more effective bad ass Rebel fighters.

But if you want a themed out Rebels squadron, I guess there you go.

I love bombs, so the Quadjumper seems right up my alley. I’ve really liked that ship ever since the concept art leaked – so for me its a win.

Sabine’s TIE seems like a ‘meh’ expansion (certainly doesn’t seemed poised to bring the Rebel faction back). Kylo’s shuttle seems very cool.

I am very hesitant about these condition cards. Seems like needless complexity being added to the game. Not a lot of design space left though…

I haven’t read much on the condition cards, but they feel like Enchantment cards from MTG. Time will tell, especially in the competitive scene, to see how these play out.

Agreed. Feel very gimmickie and a cheap solution (even though the paint job looks really good). I would rather have the prototype red B-Wing with Hera and a Mon Cal pilots.

yeah General Leia’s transport must happen. I love that hodgepodge ship, it’s my favorite vehicle from TFA.

Late 2016 release, so March of 2017? I am very excited to see a U-Wing in plastic (as long as its not in extended wing mode!)

          Imagine the accidental bumping, ugh…

Since U-Wing is a troop transport and the TIE striker is an atmospheric fighter, it would be nice to see if there can be some sort of ground/atmosphere battle mode with tanks, walkers and speeders added to X-Wing.

that would be a fun extension to the game. It would be interesting to see how the ground units moved.

U-Wing! TIE Striker! They are definitely coming, don’t worry. They just announced Wave 10 and it had only 3 ships. They’ll do what they did last year and announce the rest of the Wave late.

At least with fewer toy figures… more of a chance we will see them in the finished film. Sarco Plank and a few others come to find from The TFA line, we didnt really see.

Hasbro’s near total vacuum of no toys on shelves results in them imploding into a black hole of marketing suckitude? Seriously, they’ve taken one of the biggest IPs of all time with children and clearly have no idea how to sell it.

No way, they are about to make a huge fortune from the 40th anniversary.

You keep saying that, but I`m telling you, I see nothing to indicate that Hasbro has any idea it even will BE the 40th, let alone have big plans for it. This is a company that has spent the last 3 years at least botching and dumbing down the SW line. They`ve managed in fact, to majorly screw up literally EVERY launch they`ve had in that time. They can`t get product to market, when they do, they can`t keep product moving such that there is shelf space for it, and they keep cheaping out on paint ops and articulation which raising the base prices across the board on every line. I am not hopeful they`ll suddenly figure this out. I AM hopeful Disney will take the license away from them, because the stuff at the Disney store has, without exception I can think of, been better, cheaper, and in quantities which mean you actually may enter a store and SHOCK! Purchase them.

Commando Tao is probably a typo for Pao (big mouth) but Moroff sounds a lot like an Imperial Officer’s name. Maybe the one of them you see roaming on Jedha with the trenchcoats.
