As long as the Dark Lord of the Sith doesn’t ask if Jyn Erso is an Angel and as long as he doesn’t cry “NOOOOOOOO!” when she says she isn’t from the moons of Iego, he can be in the film all he wants.

Smaller. The threat of the monster just off screen and in your mind is scarier than being seen in the light.

Vader needs to make a cameo and that’s it. I like what they did with him in Rebels, turning him into a “NO NO NO NO NO NO NO” figure as opposed to the “I have to face him alone” figure he was in ANH. Rebels focuses on a ragtag side cast, as will Rogue One, so I hope to God we see the same treatment.

Just enough time to get an intro then some rebel killing time. I’d say 4-5 min.

He should at least have more time than he did in III and half of that time should be him in action using the dark side of the force and/or his lightsaber.

Darth Vader should definitely have a smaller roll. He isn’t fighting a Jedi and we’ve already seen Vader display his flying skills in Rebel. All I want to see is him literally mascaraing rebels for like a few minutes.

He should have a smaller role. Just long enough for some Rebels to shit their pants and try to make a run for it. “Try”.

less definitely can be more if used wisely. Can’t wait to see what they do!

I definitely believe Vader’s role should be smaller than that in Episode 4 ANH. I really wanted to see a star wars film without jedi or sith, a real war movie in tone, if they use vader sparingly it will be perfect!

I think it *will* be less, and that’s probably how it should be. Such an iconic screen presence, we cannot fail to feel it, however fleeting.

12 minutes give or take sounds about right to me.

    This is a spin-off, not a prequel.

The story and plot should center around the new assemble cast.

Vader will be the true phantom menace in Rogue One and his role will be as much based on fear and reputation as physical presence. Darth Vader became an iconic character with 12 minutes, now that we don’t have to reintroduce him and we now how powerful Anakin was before he turned, think of the impact Vader could have in 10 – 12 minutes. This may be the best presentation of Vader yet.

while I’m not entering the contest, I would say they should make him have even less time. The millennium falcon chase scene in TFA lasted ‘only’ about 4 minutes and was one of the best scenes in the film. Darth Vader in Rebels season 2 finale appeared for 2 minutes and was epic. Large screen-time is not neccessary, though many fans will be whining in the end saying that Vader appeared too little.

The movie’s about the rebels, nor Vader.it’s good for him to have a more mysterious role in the expositorial film, his character is more fleshed out in esbroufe and rotj

I’ll be happy with whatever Vader we get, however I’m more interested in the deviation from the Episodic movies and to see how they handle it so am not too concerned either way.

Darth Vader’s role in Rogue One should be bigger but not too big. Just the right amount without him taking over the film.

Darth Vaders’s screentime should not be more 12 minutes. I hope Director Orson Krennic will be the main villain for the most of the movie, and that Vader will step in later so he can continue into the next chronological movie (ANH).
The Rebels will have plenty to do with the new Director, Shoretrooper, AT-ACT’s, new tanks and more! 😉

I have to go with under 12 minutes. Darth Vader is one of the all time great villains and it would diminish him to see him be involved in the failure of giving up the death star plans. Much better for him to be used sparingly and for us to see what some new talent can do in the Star Wars universe.

Although I would like for him to have more screentime, I trust the filmmakers to know what to do and I’m very interested in watching a Star Wars movie with whole new characters.

If it were up to me, I would keep Darth Vader’s screentime at or under 12 minutes. I’ve seen other commentors who have said that more time on screen would diminish his character, and I fully agree. I would like to add, however, that with this being a Star Wars SPINOFF it would seem imperative that the focus be the new characters rather than ones that we can continue to follow their exploits in other forms of popular media.

Your philosophy with Vader is working well with Rebels, so why not Rogue One, too?
