Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 is over now. While there were not many breaking news about the upcoming movies, there were a lot of interesting panels that every Star Wars fan must watch. There’s been a lot going on in the last three days and many of you probably missed some of the panels. Also some of them were not streamed on StarWars.com, but you can watch some highlights from them after the jump…

First of all the guys from Flicks And The City have several very well made videos with interviews with the Rogue One cast, Rian Johnson and Chris Miller & Phil Lord, and highlights from the most interesting panels. Check them out!

Overall it was a good celebration, but disappointed with no Rogue One trailer and no Episode VIII title.

I agree about the trailer, but the title? We didn’t get VII’s title till November of the previous year. A month before the teaser. I was in no way expecting the title. but the trailer? IT was celebration, that is where it should have been debuted to the world.

Two things to remember though. We got a title for ep 7 around when they wrapped filming, EP 8 has pretty much wrapped filming. They pushed back Ep 8 release date from May 2017 to Dec 2017 so initially it would’ve been less than a year out at this point. I guess they’re playing with us fans.

But they DID push it back…. Principal photography is done, but i bet there will be some re-shoots. Just strange we didn’t get the Rogue One trailer.

We DID get the rogue one trailer: I saw it. They did NOT stream it but you can find a low quality clip on reddit: that’s legit

Oh, i know they showed it, i mean release it, for us that weren’t fortunate enough to attend 😛

And… i’m going to wait for the legit HD version. i can wait a little longer for the good copy.

I think they could have at least shown some concept art stuff or a few costumes. Nothing that spoils the movie, but is just something that appears in it.

My reaction was underwhelming as they didn’t give us anything new really, except for Rebels.

Rian Johnson came all the way to England to tell the world that the WORKING TITLE of Episode VIII was Space Bear.
    Pathetic.

Unless he told otherwise in the interviews, I assume he was already in england? I mean, they wrapped just a few days before celebration

they didn’t even upload day 1 to prevent people like me that couldn’t watch live the rogue one panel to see it. I start to actually hate LF.

Anyone else felt like these celebrations were way better to watch than last year because first there is no JJ Abrams and Daisy Ridley and Kathleen Kennedy showed up at minimum, 3 obnoxious, dull and boring individuals, two because Mark Hamill was allowed to speak and he’s exactly the opposite of them.

At the Celebration Europe Future Filmmakers Panel, Rian Johnson said he watched the following films with the Lucasfilm storygroup to inspire the scriptwriting for Episode 8: Twelve O’Clock High, Letters Never Sent, Bridge on the River Kwai, Dambusters, Three Outlaw Samurai, Gunga Din, and Sahara. Rian Johnson said that after production for Episode 8 ended and he has seen the film he has put together he realises that much of Twelve O’Clock High has made it into Episode 8. Does this mean that Episode 8 will be a war film focusing on the Resistance fighting the First Order? Will Episode 8 explore the relationships between Resistance fighters and between First Order soldiers during the war? Will Leia, Poe, Finn, Wexley, Hux and crew be the main characters of Episode 8 instead of Luke, Rey, Kylo and Snoke? Will Three Outlaw Samurai inspire the story of Luke, Rey, Kylo and Snoke? If the abovementioned films inspired Rian Johnson and the storygroup during scripwriting, what do these films reveal about the plot and style of Episode 8?

It can depend in how could be handled, remember that Lucas used most of his inspiration in the saga from Akira Kurosawa’s films while not copying directly most of his elements.

Twelve O’Clock High and Dambusters are about air force crews in a war situtation, which fits naturally into Star Wars. Bridge on the River Kwai is about PoWs, a theme that may also appear in Episode VIII. I don’t see how Three Outlaw Samurai would fit into the story other than the generic Samurai/Jedi association, and I don’t know which “Sahara” RJ was referring to (there have been several different movies with that title).

As for Letter Never Sent and Gunga Din, both films feature a search for something of value (diamonds in Letter Never Sent and a gold-made temple in Gunga Din) against the backdrop of a hostile environment and a struggle to survive. That points back to some of the early Episode VIII plot leaks which were nevertheless later debunked.

Sorry. That dude totally does not fit Han Solo at all. Not even a dash of Han. Nor a smidge. It’s going to fail horribly.
