Poll: How Many Times Have You Seen Star Wars The Force Awakens?

Star-Wars-The-Force-Awakens-Empire-cover

Star Wars: The Force Awakens scored another $3.8 million at the US box office this weekend, bringing it’s domestic gross to the impressive $922 million. Now nearing the end of its theatrical run, 10 weeks after the movie was released, we ask you how many times you have seen the movie.

I personally have seen it 5 times. I’ve tried all possible versions – 2D IMAX, 3D IMAX, Regular 3D and 4DX. What about you? Please vote:

We’re just over a month away from TFA Blu-Ray/DVD release. Also Rogue One is about to begin post production and Episode VIII has just started principle photography. Not bad, eh? Great times to be a Star Wars fan…

I’ve seen it three times in regular 2D format, no gimmicks for me. If a film needs to be viewed in 3D, it can’t actually be that great.

its also clear from the way the film was shot that 3D was not a priority while composing shots. Clearly 2D is how the film was ment to be seen.

I’m sorry, I don’t mean for this to sound cruel, but there is no way that ANY Friday should be so boring that your best alternative is seeing any movie for the thirteenth time in two months.

I know every single line by each character In-Order and it makes me more attracted to it every time I watch it the tense to it, The 35th time (Not sure why it wasn`t the first time) as I saw the death of Han by Ben I could feel it going through me which was a “Holy Shit!” experience.

I write down each time I watch each of the Star Wars films, Here`s my results:

Star Wars: A New Hope – 257 Times
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back – 198 Times
Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi – 150 Times

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace – 23 Times
Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones – 53 Times
Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith – 79 Times

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 47 Times

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Movie) – 13 Times

That`s just the films, I`ve watch the whole of The Clone Wars Series 1 – 6 and currently the whole Rebels Series 1 – 2 1/2.

I`m currently only 15 and wish I went to see it in the cinema or the first 3 in 1977, 1980 and 1983 back then and watch them now…

The only downside to seeing the OT during their original theatre run was the wait for the home market release. We had to wait 5 years for the ANH to be released on VHS for rental (you couldn’t buy movies back then).

Yep. But back then, it got re-released like every year, so I guess there was give and take.

Only for the first few years, and then after Jedi te trilogy re-release. We SUFFERED waiting for home video I tells ya, then agonized over Letterbox or Fullscreen. Those were the dark times.

HAHAHAHA! You lie, if only to yourself – the only available version is the same, shitty video that hit the web almost immediately after opening day. Some tweaks to colour, and, yeah, different audio attempts, but the same crappy video in each copy.

      • February 22, 2016 at 8:57 pm
        Permalink

Actually, I remember that quality with the watermark site name on it which this version has a few lines at either side and slightly shaky camera every couple of mins (Probably from filming at the back or the projector area) and is so clear. Though due to the amount of times I`ve seen it, To those who don`t believe me is entirely up to you but I know the truth…

        • February 22, 2016 at 11:37 pm
          Permalink

Nah, the watermark only lasted a couple of days before it was replaced. Unless you have a super tippy-top secret source that nobody else does, it’s all still the same spanish showing that is being passed around with tweaks to video and a variety of different audio attempts. You can tell by the guy in the front left who keeps popping up periodically 🙂

I’ve only seen it 4 times, twice on opening day. I planned on seeing it at least 19 times because I saw Phantom 19 times total in the theater when I was 7-8 years old but I will not be breaking my record this time.

    • February 21, 2016 at 11:28 pm

Wow. I *also* saw The Phantom Menace exactly 19 times in the theater (during its initial run – I saw it once during the 3D release and then an additional time in the theaters back in December as part of the marathon). So yeah, I’m in the same boat. I doubt I’ll see any movie more times than that in the theater. I managed 7 times for TFA (twice on opening day and almost three times as my company went to see it together), but will now be waiting for my next viewing when it comes out on Bluray.

How do you get that? I think I’ve repeatedly clarified my feelings on the film – I love the first half, it’s fun, moves along at an ass-kicking pace, the characters are engaging without being cloying, and Harrison is fucking dialed in. And then things go very, very badly wrong after the attack on Maz’s castle. It’s like they had a script that was much, much further along in development, then changed their minds about the last act right before they were supposed to shoot, and just banged out a replacement over a drunken weekend, pasted it onto the film, and called it a day. Crazy theory, I know…ahem. Anyways, THAT’S why I have misgivings about TFA – there is so much promise in the first half, and the last half just wizzes it all down its leg.

Alright sorry, I haven’t been on here long enough to actually know why you have misgivings about it, just knew you did. But I agree, the first half was great, once it got to Maz, ehh not so much. Maybe there will be enough deleted scenes for a better fan-edit? Lol

Okay, as much as you may like TFA, objectively ANH is a better version of the same story, and ESB has better acting, writing, direction, more inventive characters, and higher emotional stakes. Yes, they’re all 7 just different shades of quality of a cinematic fast food, but it’s still possible to rank them.

Twice, in 2D with my dad. First on opening day, then in January. Not the film I was expecting/hoping for, but still fun nonetheless. I have faith Ep.8 will be more original, it’s fine this film was very similar to ANH, it set up the new trilogy nicely in my opinion.

I totally agree with his analysis. The storyline of ‘The Force Awakens’ destroys the purpose of the Original Trilogy. In short: all for nothing.

Starkiller Base is just a plot device to legitimate a convered-up reset of the Star Wars Universe, like Abrams did in ‘Star Trek’ (2009) with the time travelling / alternative dimension creating machine of Spock.

      • February 22, 2016 at 2:16 pm
        Permalink

Huh? The Original Trilogy story has had minimal to none implication on Star Wars universe for a while now. OT and PT are basically just a story of how one man (Darth Sidious) was able to take on a whole Republic by himself and convert it to his very own Empire with which he ruled the galaxy.

I agree AND disagree with you at the.same.time.

True, having Luke start of at Step 0 was a total cop-out. I think that TFA was good on its own right, but it didn’t really build from the OT, it wasn’t really a good progression to the next step. Luke, Leia, and Han (well, not Han, for obvious reasons…) are stuck right back where they started.

In short, the Battle of Endor was ultimately a hollow victory… which… actually makes the story more believable.
WWI going on WWII was basically the same thing, the Allies won and but then let things slide, and within 20 years everything had reverted back again if not worse.

But it would have been really nice to see that the Big 3 had been a little more busy in the bast 30 years, like, the whole Leia-Han-Kylo Ren fall-out was good, Luke losing his school was good (too many Jedis onscreen gets boring fast), but Luke should have been doing SOMETHING.

In this respect, I kind of prefer Luke’s appearance in the game “Jedi Outcast II” with Kyle Katarn fighting that Dino-morph sith dude, Luke actually appears about half-way through the game, duels with the Sith dude (of course failing because plot), gives Kyle Katarn council, and is there at the end to hand out medals and booze. That, for me, is the benchmark of about what Luke SHOULD have been in TFA, and I feel this regard is really where the biggest cop-out is.
In “Jedi OUtcast II”, Luke had dealt with the whole “evil apprentice kills classmates”, and rather than moping about it, Luke just, you know, GOT NEW, LESS EVIL, STUDENTS and moved on with his life.
      Where was THAT in TFA.

Shit, I think “your friend”/you have official killed TFA for me, YOU BASTARD!!

    • February 22, 2016 at 7:55 pm
      Permalink

So your friend wants a rehash of the Prequel Trilogy? That is how I read this. It sounds like he wants everything in this new trilogy to be exactly as what we have seen before, but according to his rhythm TFA should have been a rehash of TPM instead of ANH.

I like that Luke was thwarted in his effort to re-establish the Jedi. This reflects real life. You plan, you work hard, you achieve a portion of what you want, then you find out that life/the universe has different plans. We as humans don’t get to script out the way the world works. I like that being reflected in what is likely to be a more complex trilogy than the OT or PT.

    • February 22, 2016 at 8:43 pm
      Permalink

Well, what Jake, I mean Josh, writes is a clearly biased and flawed analysis in which he equates entire trilogies to one film.

    • February 22, 2016 at 9:13 pm
      Permalink

See this is where it gets tricky. Things couldn’t have ended happily ever after. There would be no conflict for the movie. The Jedi couldn’t have been revived or else they would have dealt with the first order already. That being said, having Luke just being sort of a mope {unless there was some other personal tragedy he went through (like he believes he daughter aka Rey had died) since in my theory it was Kylo Ren that put her on Jakku} is sort of lame. This is a guy who risked life and limb (literally) to save the galaxy only to go away when it needed him the most.

      • February 23, 2016 at 12:06 am
        Permalink

Hmmmm, but if they stuck to the whole “the first order retreated to the unknown regions” thing, up until the very start of TFA (making it kind of an invasion film I guess), then a handful of new Jedi wouldn’t be unreasonable.

I dunno, as horribly flawed at the old EU was, its picture of “30 years later” in the new Jedi order and legacy of the force series were much better conceived…

There is still plenty of time to fill in the gaps to see exactly why they made the choices that they ended up making, but call me a skeptic for the time being. I just hope that they can justify the characters actions to be where they ended up in TFA.

    • February 22, 2016 at 10:00 pm

I wouldn’t exactly call this analysis unbiased. The author seems to equate the story structure of the PT and OT and seems to be upset that the plot from the ST heavily borrows thematic elements from the former. From there, the prejudice is demonstrated, since there is no alternative viewpoint. If anything, they’re just substantiating an argument.

To be honest, it’s like providing a preliminary critique of a book after reading the first chapter. If they were true to form in this blog, they would compare plot elements in TPM vs ANH vs TFA, and not their sequels, since – to be fair, Episode 8 and 9 are still years away from release. There is a good chance that Rian Johnson may riff off more story elements from what we have seen. Then again, there is also a good chance we’ll see some red herrings. We don’t know…we will have to wait to see how the story goes.

      Be patient, young padawan.
