Poll: How Many Times Have You Seen Star Wars The Force Awakens?
Star Wars: The Force Awakens scored another $3.8 million at the US box office this weekend, bringing it’s domestic gross to the impressive $922 million. Now nearing the end of its theatrical run, 10 weeks after the movie was released, we ask you how many times you have seen the movie.
I personally have seen it 5 times. I’ve tried all possible versions – 2D IMAX, 3D IMAX, Regular 3D and 4DX. What about you? Please vote:

We’re just over a month away from TFA Blu-Ray/DVD release. Also Rogue One is about to begin post production and Episode VIII has just started principle photography. Not bad, eh? Great times to be a Star Wars fan…

12 times here
8 times
6 times. Hoping to see it for the 7th, and final time sometime this week.
I’ve seen it three times in regular 2D format, no gimmicks for me. If a film needs to be viewed in 3D, it can’t actually be that great.
its also clear from the way the film was shot that 3D was not a priority while composing shots. Clearly 2D is how the film was ment to be seen.
4 times here. Tomorrow might be my 5th.
5 and waiting for it to come to the local IMAX 70MM screen that gets movies 3 months after release.
Between 14 and 16 times.
I saw it every 3 days or so upon release. Then in January it droped back to about once a week.
I last saw it on the 7th. Im going again tonight. Im very excited!
I need to know who has seen it more than 10 times cause….. that’s awesome lol.
13 times. I was going to stop at 12, but I was bored on Friday with nothing else to do.
I’m sorry, I don’t mean for this to sound cruel, but there is no way that ANY Friday should be so boring that your best alternative is seeing any movie for the thirteenth time in two months.
I, frankly, don’t care what you think about how I choose to spend my free time or money. If I want to spend a Friday morning in a theater to relax and get away from everyday stress, who are you to judge?
I’m at 12. Was gonna hit 13 but don’t like ending theatrical run at that number, would have to make it 14.
4 times. Wish I had more money to go see it again to make it 5 times. Hopefully before it leaves theaters I can see it again.
Saw it 2 times in 2D…. wish I had tried for IMAX 3D once but not available anymore…. Hopefully will return to IMAX 3D when times are slow? I hope
5 times, it is the most i’ve ever watched a movie in theaters and also the only one i’ve seen more than twice as well. I’ll wait for the Blu-Ray to watch it again though.
I have watched the film 5 times, enjoyed it each viewing. I would see it again if time allowed.
The nice men in the white coats won’t give you another day pass though?
I’m busy producing a film in LA at the moment.
I’ve watched it five times. Its at my local IMAX with Thursday being the last day so I’m going to go see it one last time Thursday night.
3 times, but really want to see it a 4th time but can’t because of it being out of theatres where I live.
4 times. whats 4DX
It’s an immersive experience where you get special effects inside the cinema, like smoke effect, vibrations, smells and so on.
21st Century smell-o-vision basically!
Oh yea. Hm that would be kinda cool
The theater equivalent of those crappy 4D Universal Studios theme park movies.
My kids and I saw it three times. But I bought 15 tickets total, including friends, family, etc.
Twice. Normally I only see movies at the cinema once, but the second time was unplanned.
I must confess to have a bit of a giggle over the five people who have voted for not having seen it yet. One wonders why they are reading a SW blog and letting themselves get thoroughly spoiled?!
They are trying to prove a point.
Some people have to be cool and street and hard.
Three times at the Wichita IMAX
God, I WISH I could see the movie in IMAX. I can’t convince anyone to go with me and spend the extra money though.
Literally just got home from seeing it for the 8th time. I thought I would be in double digits by now, but some weekends I wanted to see it, I was not able to. I have taken my 3 1/2 year old son to see it three times. Can’t wait for the Blu Ray!!!
Currently 47 Times…
9 Times in IMAX.
5 in Regular 3D.
7 in Regular 2D.
The other 26 Times are from an almost HD amazing audio copy.
I think we have a winner. /;O)
I know every single line by each character In-Order and it makes me more attracted to it every time I watch it the tense to it, The 35th time (Not sure why it wasn`t the first time) as I saw the death of Han by Ben I could feel it going through me which was a “Holy Shit!” experience.
I write down each time I watch each of the Star Wars films, Here`s my results:
Star Wars: A New Hope – 257 Times
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back – 198 Times
Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi – 150 Times
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace – 23 Times
Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones – 53 Times
Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith – 79 Times
Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 47 Times
Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Movie) – 13 Times
That`s just the films, I`ve watch the whole of The Clone Wars Series 1 – 6 and currently the whole Rebels Series 1 – 2 1/2.
I`m currently only 15 and wish I went to see it in the cinema or the first 3 in 1977, 1980 and 1983 back then and watch them now…
The only downside to seeing the OT during their original theatre run was the wait for the home market release. We had to wait 5 years for the ANH to be released on VHS for rental (you couldn’t buy movies back then).
Yep. But back then, it got re-released like every year, so I guess there was give and take.
Only for the first few years, and then after Jedi te trilogy re-release. We SUFFERED waiting for home video I tells ya, then agonized over Letterbox or Fullscreen. Those were the dark times.
Imagine if we had to wait 4 or 5 years now for the new SW movies to be available for the home market.
HAHAHAHA! You lie, if only to yourself – the only available version is the same, shitty video that hit the web almost immediately after opening day. Some tweaks to colour, and, yeah, different audio attempts, but the same crappy video in each copy.
Actually, I remember that quality with the watermark site name on it which this version has a few lines at either side and slightly shaky camera every couple of mins (Probably from filming at the back or the projector area) and is so clear. Though due to the amount of times I`ve seen it, To those who don`t believe me is entirely up to you but I know the truth…
Nah, the watermark only lasted a couple of days before it was replaced. Unless you have a super tippy-top secret source that nobody else does, it’s all still the same spanish showing that is being passed around with tweaks to video and a variety of different audio attempts. You can tell by the guy in the front left who keeps popping up periodically 🙂
I’ve only seen it 4 times, twice on opening day. I planned on seeing it at least 19 times because I saw Phantom 19 times total in the theater when I was 7-8 years old but I will not be breaking my record this time.
Wow. I *also* saw The Phantom Menace exactly 19 times in the theater (during its initial run – I saw it once during the 3D release and then an additional time in the theaters back in December as part of the marathon). So yeah, I’m in the same boat. I doubt I’ll see any movie more times than that in the theater. I managed 7 times for TFA (twice on opening day and almost three times as my company went to see it together), but will now be waiting for my next viewing when it comes out on Bluray.
That’d be a very expensive record to break.
Saw it 6 times, twice in 3D and sadly missed out on IMAX. I was getting a bit bored by now anyway though….
Bored by a Star Wars movie? I feel that you may be a TR-8R.
6 times is enough for any movie, over 2 a two month period, to bore the ever living shit out of anyone.
LOL I suppose going through the motions is a more appropriate description. I was still very entertained.
But by the time you pick up on all the easter eggs and nuances, to the point where you know what everyone’s going to say before they do, you get a little burnt out.
I’ll be sure to inspect every frame and watch it may more times when we get the Bluray
6 times, but I’ll have to wait until the dvd/blu-ray to see it again because where I leave no theatre shows it anymore D:
5 times (all 2D). Pretty sure it’s the most I’ve ever been to see the same movie. Haven’t seen the same movie more than once since the Terminator 2.
8 times in theaters and 5 or so more times using more questionable means.
“questionable means” lol
In my opinion, if you’ve seen it 8 times, you have the right to see it on Putlocker/torrents.
Keep trying the questionable means, but despite several versions, it’s the same shitty original video – basically unwatchable.
All you who have only seen it once: YOU are the reason this couldn’t pass Avatar.
Yeah, they’re all a bunch of TR-8Rs.
Yeah, the public has a duty to make the mouse more money. Because bigger box office means you win.
I’ve seen it three times so far, looks like the polls indicate that I’m the most average kind of TFA fan, yay!
Seen it 3 times: regular 2D,IMAX 3D then regular 2D again.
8.
9 Times
1 – IMAX
2 – 3D
6 – 2D
5 times
1 IMAX
1 in 3D
3 in 2D
Who are the 7 that haven’t?… and why are they on this site?
Lol true.
2 IMAX
3 2D
2 3D
16 times
Am I a traitor for only seeing it once? Don’t get me wrong… I really liked it. I just want to be excited again to see it after so long on Blu-ray.
TRAITOR!
hehe
49 times…
Are you serious?
Dang bruh, you’re intense!
I saw it three times: once on December 17th (one of the advanced showing) in 2D, once the Tuesday before Christmas in IMAX (looked amazing), and once on December 26th in D-BOX (which was fun).
I would like to see it one more time in theaters, but it doesn’t look likely. I can’t wait to get it on Blu-Ray.
I saw it once with my Mom and brother and once with my Dad, both times in 2D (I hate 3D and can’t afford IMAX). Sadly, I have no more excuses to see it again.
Particularly if you have limited financial resources, do some other, smaller films a favor and spend some money on them instead.
You really don’t like this movie, do you? Lol
How do you get that? I think I’ve repeatedly clarified my feelings on the film – I love the first half, it’s fun, moves along at an ass-kicking pace, the characters are engaging without being cloying, and Harrison is fucking dialed in. And then things go very, very badly wrong after the attack on Maz’s castle. It’s like they had a script that was much, much further along in development, then changed their minds about the last act right before they were supposed to shoot, and just banged out a replacement over a drunken weekend, pasted it onto the film, and called it a day. Crazy theory, I know…ahem. Anyways, THAT’S why I have misgivings about TFA – there is so much promise in the first half, and the last half just wizzes it all down its leg.
Alright sorry, I haven’t been on here long enough to actually know why you have misgivings about it, just knew you did. But I agree, the first half was great, once it got to Maz, ehh not so much. Maybe there will be enough deleted scenes for a better fan-edit? Lol
And the claws come out.
Nah, you’re reading more into that than was intended. I’m just saying, if you’ve got limited dosh to spread around, there were some really startlingly excellent films that got released over the holidays – share some love with some films that aren’t going to see $3b BO.
3 times, an loved them each time
Once was enough.
Twice. Don’t see the point seeing it any more in this day and age. The only films Iv seen more than that at the theatre were SW 9 times (8 77-78 and 1 SE) and ESB 3 times.
$922 mil just in north america is insane. thanks to disney for making this happen in the first place. 🙂
5 times.
1st Standard at 7pm opening night.
2nd Real 3D so my sister could see it with someone.
3rd 3D iMAX with my whole family for Christmas.
4th Standard viewing by myself.
5th Standard viewing so my close friend could see it.
I just want to see 8… Haha
Twice. Once opening night and once the week after in a small neighborhood theatre. Both times in 2D. Enjoyed it even more the second time but the atmosphere during the premiere was just sooo awesome. Next viewing will be Blu Ray…Or Blu Rey as it should be called. ^^
Twice, both with my kids – once on the 19th, then once in January. I feel that was enough to form a reasonable opinion of the film. Second showing smoothed over some issues I had with the film, and reinforced others.
did your kids like it?
Absolutely – loved it more than ANY of the others. What can I say? Kids have no taste 🙂
lol, i know what thats like. i really liked TPM when it came out, still not sure why. 🙂
I was going o say – they’re favorites prior to TFA? AotC and Sith. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! George really did know what the hell he was doing with the PT, I tell you.
at least they know to get the high ground in any fight. 😉
No taste? What if the ANH came out today, it might come across as bad no? These are kinda kids movies, and the ones you grew up with are probably the ones you’ll love the most.
Okay, as much as you may like TFA, objectively ANH is a better version of the same story, and ESB has better acting, writing, direction, more inventive characters, and higher emotional stakes. Yes, they’re all 7 just different shades of quality of a cinematic fast food, but it’s still possible to rank them.
I agree that ANH is a superior version of the same story, but calling it “objective” is simply false. Opinions are subjective.
Alright, makes sense.
Three times.
IMAX 3d opening night
Ultra AVX 3d
2d
And like above, 2 questionables (;
Six. All 2D.
I saw it once… What? I’m poor, shoot me.
Once is perfectly acceptable for any movie.
Except in the case of movies featuring ‘Pee-wee Herman’ in which case once is way too many.
I feel the same way about Titanic.
only if you shoot at me first. 😉
I’ve seen it four times but I’ve been contemplating a fifth. Probably keep it to four if its coming out on Blu-Ray soon, though.
3D I MAX once Dec 17th….2D once…various recordings on other media…LoL
If the tickets had been 100% FREE for all TFA showings, how many times would you have gone? I would have gone about 10 times, I think.
Great question, I’d say about 6 or 7 times.
Every day. Hundreds of times.
Twice, in 2D with my dad. First on opening day, then in January. Not the film I was expecting/hoping for, but still fun nonetheless. I have faith Ep.8 will be more original, it’s fine this film was very similar to ANH, it set up the new trilogy nicely in my opinion.
7 times.
Dolby Atmos x2
IMAX 3D (suprisingly epic)
MPX (large screen format)
RealD 3D (theater sucked.. was blurry T_T)
2D x 2
3 so far,
3D IMAX with my 7 year old daughter on opening day,
2D with my wife
Drive-in with the whole family, including the four year old daughter.
Drive-in? I didn’t know those still existed.
We have 1 left here in Perth WA.
They still had a few in Mexico about a decade ago, but they might be gone by now.
I remember going to see Crocodile Dundee in a cinema in a bsement in Perth back in the ’80s. I swear to God I saw termites chewing away at the wooden beams that were holding the ceiling up. To top it off, when we got out we were covered in tiny bugs. Oh how I miss the ’80s
Yes, they exist you just have to look for them. I think this one was the only one that remains in the state, and it was about a 30-40 minute drive.
I’d like to meet the people that saw it more than ten times! haha
I’m one! 12 here!
Makes you wonder, how much money can a movie really make if each person that watched it can only see it that one time.
I saw it five times. But on the fifth time I fell asleep for about 20 minutes. What? I can’t help it. They turn the lights off in the cinema and my brain tells me it’s time to sleep. Stupid brain.
15x.
1x IMAX 70mm (real IMAX)
2x IMAX Digital (pseudo IMAX)
2x Large Format (RDX)
5x CINERAMA Dolby Atmos 3D Digital
3x Dolby Atmos 3D Digital
2x 2D Digital
Seen it 8 times:
1 x IMAX 70mm
2 x IMAX 3D
6 x 2D Digital
Your maths doesn’t add up. You’ve seen it 9 times
I guess the correct answer would be “I’ve lost count” as I apparently have.
Twice: First was RealD 3D, second was 2D.
I had hoped for another viewing with my girlfriend, but she hasn’t been home from college enough for us to watch the Originals before seeing TFA. Looks like it’ll take until the Blu-ray release for her to get to see it.
Saw it again tonight in 70mm IMAX/Omnimax. Was great but I think I’ve been spoiled with the much more vibrant digital projections as of late, as the movie really didnt “pop” for me like I had hoped it would in 70mm.
Cant beat a full blown Omnimax sound system though.
4 times. Except twice I had to leave the theater early because my daughter won’t take a bottle yet so my fiance gave up trying to see it in theaters. We will be among the many happy fans with a blue ray copy
6 times, 3D, 2D in english, catalan and spanish languages.
opening thursday with my younger brother, the first saturday with my parents (3D), and like sometime before the term started with my cousin and her husband, planning on seeing it again when it starts playing at the cheap theater pub by my house.
13 times… 1x IMAX, the rest either 3D or 2D in Malta, London and Tokyo. with Tokyo having the best sound and IMAX London the best color depth
I saw it once – IMAX Laser 3D in Melbourne, Australia. I loved the first third of the movie and then it went down hill quickly.
5 times, 1 time IMAX, rest 3D
https://joshwritesthings.wordpress.com/2016/02/22/story-structure-and-trajectory/
A mate wrote this… I wonder if many other people have actually thought about the implications of The Force Awakens on the Star Wars saga as a whole? This is a fascinating, unbiased read…
I totally agree with his analysis. The storyline of ‘The Force Awakens’ destroys the purpose of the Original Trilogy. In short: all for nothing.
Starkiller Base is just a plot device to legitimate a convered-up reset of the Star Wars Universe, like Abrams did in ‘Star Trek’ (2009) with the time travelling / alternative dimension creating machine of Spock.
Huh? The Original Trilogy story has had minimal to none implication on Star Wars universe for a while now. OT and PT are basically just a story of how one man (Darth Sidious) was able to take on a whole Republic by himself and convert it to his very own Empire with which he ruled the galaxy.
Well you wrote shallow and biased dive into The Force Awakens story.
Congratulations.
I agree AND disagree with you at the.same.time.
True, having Luke start of at Step 0 was a total cop-out. I think that TFA was good on its own right, but it didn’t really build from the OT, it wasn’t really a good progression to the next step. Luke, Leia, and Han (well, not Han, for obvious reasons…) are stuck right back where they started.
In short, the Battle of Endor was ultimately a hollow victory… which… actually makes the story more believable.
WWI going on WWII was basically the same thing, the Allies won and but then let things slide, and within 20 years everything had reverted back again if not worse.
But it would have been really nice to see that the Big 3 had been a little more busy in the bast 30 years, like, the whole Leia-Han-Kylo Ren fall-out was good, Luke losing his school was good (too many Jedis onscreen gets boring fast), but Luke should have been doing SOMETHING.
In this respect, I kind of prefer Luke’s appearance in the game “Jedi Outcast II” with Kyle Katarn fighting that Dino-morph sith dude, Luke actually appears about half-way through the game, duels with the Sith dude (of course failing because plot), gives Kyle Katarn council, and is there at the end to hand out medals and booze. That, for me, is the benchmark of about what Luke SHOULD have been in TFA, and I feel this regard is really where the biggest cop-out is.
In “Jedi OUtcast II”, Luke had dealt with the whole “evil apprentice kills classmates”, and rather than moping about it, Luke just, you know, GOT NEW, LESS EVIL, STUDENTS and moved on with his life.
Where was THAT in TFA.
Shit, I think “your friend”/you have official killed TFA for me, YOU BASTARD!!
So your friend wants a rehash of the Prequel Trilogy? That is how I read this. It sounds like he wants everything in this new trilogy to be exactly as what we have seen before, but according to his rhythm TFA should have been a rehash of TPM instead of ANH.
I like that Luke was thwarted in his effort to re-establish the Jedi. This reflects real life. You plan, you work hard, you achieve a portion of what you want, then you find out that life/the universe has different plans. We as humans don’t get to script out the way the world works. I like that being reflected in what is likely to be a more complex trilogy than the OT or PT.
Well, what Jake, I mean Josh, writes is a clearly biased and flawed analysis in which he equates entire trilogies to one film.
See this is where it gets tricky. Things couldn’t have ended happily ever after. There would be no conflict for the movie. The Jedi couldn’t have been revived or else they would have dealt with the first order already. That being said, having Luke just being sort of a mope {unless there was some other personal tragedy he went through (like he believes he daughter aka Rey had died) since in my theory it was Kylo Ren that put her on Jakku} is sort of lame. This is a guy who risked life and limb (literally) to save the galaxy only to go away when it needed him the most.
Hmmmm, but if they stuck to the whole “the first order retreated to the unknown regions” thing, up until the very start of TFA (making it kind of an invasion film I guess), then a handful of new Jedi wouldn’t be unreasonable.
I dunno, as horribly flawed at the old EU was, its picture of “30 years later” in the new Jedi order and legacy of the force series were much better conceived…
There is still plenty of time to fill in the gaps to see exactly why they made the choices that they ended up making, but call me a skeptic for the time being. I just hope that they can justify the characters actions to be where they ended up in TFA.
I wouldn’t exactly call this analysis unbiased. The author seems to equate the story structure of the PT and OT and seems to be upset that the plot from the ST heavily borrows thematic elements from the former. From there, the prejudice is demonstrated, since there is no alternative viewpoint. If anything, they’re just substantiating an argument.
To be honest, it’s like providing a preliminary critique of a book after reading the first chapter. If they were true to form in this blog, they would compare plot elements in TPM vs ANH vs TFA, and not their sequels, since – to be fair, Episode 8 and 9 are still years away from release. There is a good chance that Rian Johnson may riff off more story elements from what we have seen. Then again, there is also a good chance we’ll see some red herrings. We don’t know…we will have to wait to see how the story goes.
Be patient, young padawan.
I took it less as anger about more retreading, and rather an analysis about how the new “back story” f**ks with the sagas structure and trajectory…
Twice in 3D. The first time I like watching it on it’s own merits and after that I like to catch any little details I missed out on the first time around that connect to the other films. It helps stave off the boredom in the slow parts.
Seen it four times, once in 3D-IMAX. Definitely going back for one last 2D this weekend.
3D-IMAX was amazing. That’s what I saw it in opening night.
5 times. I was wanting to get a few more in but…life and stuff.
same here!
5 Times myself.
By time 3, I had realized that I had picked up on everything there was to pick up on. So 4 and 5 were just for the pleasure of it.
One time
One time
Two glorious times…once in 3D and once in 2D. I’ll have the movie on repeat in my blu ray player when it comes out. 🙂
You and me both.
instead of only watching 7 on repeat, you’ve got to take it to the next level. finally being able to play episodes 4-7 back to back.
Twice in theaters and twice on illegal download with terrible quality.
I’ve seen it six times, twice imax 3D, twice 2d, and twice regular 3D.
Seven times total: once in IMAX 3D, twice in regular 3D, four times in 2D (preferred version); three times with friends/family, four times by myself.
Last saturday my 30th screening. I love that movie. 32 years after RotJ a real new Star Wars movie. Makes me feel like that 10 year old kid who saw his first star wars movie over 35 years ago.
I am so jealous of you.
twice same cinema, once (on a freebie) to check it out and then paid to see it again with my son ….. first 40 mins or so are great …. then its ok then its meh
I’m surprised that this even has 1 person that hasn’t seen the film, let alone 19!!
Once in cinema and countless times on pirate download.
-__-
-__- Indeed.
I’m at 18 so far.
