Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-Ray Aiming at April 5, 2016 Release Date.

Teaser Trailer

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is currently slated for a April 5, 2016 release date on Blu-Ray and DVD. Currently, no special features have been announced, but J. J. Abrams has already stated that a good portion of the deleted scenes are confirmed to be accessible.

This information can be found on the official Blu-Ray website. It’s possible that the home video release might be delayed slightly if ticket sales for the film continue to do as well as they have (read: continue to break tons of records), but the movie should arrive on shelves before the release of Captain America: Civil War. In any case, it seems like at the rate that things are going, the film will still be in theaters for a while after it hits DVD and Blu-Ray.

    steelbook?

Never really understood the hype over steelbooks, but I will say it better be an improvement over the terrible, guaranteed-to-damage-the-disc style of the BD set.

Uhh… I see the point. I like steelbooks because they give some speciality to the disc box… I only have interstellar on steelbook… and if I’m getting star wars the force awakens, I want to get it in an esclusive edition

How special or exclusive is a mass-produced product available across the globe from a slew of big-boxes though? Anyways, no, you know what? I’d rather have LFL release a home video version of a SW film for once without completely buggering the dynamic range and colour balance before they worry about nice packaging – that would be “special” enough for me.

Special to me. I claim the right to consider special a nice packaging for a good film. And… some steelbooks usually have limited availability. But that’s just details. As I said, I buy on steelbook only a few films, so in my BD collection those few steelbooks stand out. I can’t answer to the whole point you do about LFL buggering stuff because I simply don’t get it.

Will there be a 3D Blu-ray or not (considering it’s Disney which hasn’t been supporting the 3D option for home video in its latest releases)?

Here in Australia, the DVD/Blu-ray will be released on April 20 with the Blu-ray being a 2-Disc set.

I’d love that too. I can’t help but wonder if some scenes were a bit more fleshed out… and they over edited for the sake of keeping things actiony!

Honestly it could have been 3 hours long and I’d have loved every minute!

Some scene extentions or added quiet ones would help it breathe, there was a little of that with Rey at the beginning but I think it could be pushed a little more.

Exactly… I thought the pacing was perfect right up until Rey and Finn got taken in by Han. Then pacing got a little crazy…

I was a little disappointed JJ didnt seemed too fond of a special edition or extended cut. If it happens it will be more of Disney’s doing than JJ. Maybe he changes his mind. Its a testiment to the fact that many of us loved what he did with EP 7 and want even more!

I bet there will be a blu ray box set that has 1-7. Then there will be a blu ray box set of 1-8. and then there will be an ultimate blu ray box set of 1-9 with the anthology films with it as well. My wallet is crying already.

there is nothing official about that website. you can even confirm that in the site’s footer.

that date is an approximation based on 3 months after the film’s release date and the current industry trend. which, incidentally, I’d be surprised if the film follows it.

Not true. It was merely something an artist drew. Nothing was planned.

It was not planned. It was an idea kicked around by a single concept artist during preproduction. Pablo Hidalgo has confirmed this.

I agree. I can’t stand that pretentious and obnoxious d-bag John Campea either. I tried watching one of their shows one time and geez, the fact that they try act like they’re ESPN Scportscenter anchors with their “studio setup” even looking like it was emulating that program is just so idiotic. These guys really have no business telling moviegoers what to like or dislike.

Oh no! Not this fucking shit again. I’m passing till I know what’s on it for sure. The initial release is going to be some cash grab probably. I’m sure they will have the extended edition in some saga set out in time for Rogue One and then add the rest of the deleted scenes in time for VIII called the Kylo cut or some BS.

exactly. Acting like this is a shocking twist of evil corporate greed is incredibly naive. Every studio thinks this way. Disney is just ran by executives who are intelligent enough to give creative control to a crew who’s passionate and personally invested in the integrity of the material. Sony, Fox, Universal are just as concerned with bottom line, they’re just too inept to deliver something this entertaining.

I fear you’re right. I can see them holding back on the extras and just giving us the minimum they think they can get away with. Then later give us a special edition, maybe extended (lets hope), with the extras we wanted the first time. The usual for a big release like this.
Personally I’m hoping for the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit treatment, when it comes to the extras, but have Disney ever done that?
