UPDATE 2! Star Wars Rebels Season Two Confirmed for NYCC! New TV Spot and Launch Date!

Rebels RexAnxious for the return of Star Wars Rebels? Fret not! The show will have a panel at the New York Comic Con on October 8.

From the official Star Wars website:

As the second season of Star Wars Rebels opens, the crew of the Ghost is now a very real threat to the Empire. That’s bad news, because Darth Vader’s been assigned with the task of mopping them up. Undeterred, the rebels seek out old friends and new allies, hoping to rally the formidable alliance which began to crystallize at the end of Season One. Vader will dispatch new agents to counter their growing coalition, but the Sith Lord’s battle with the Rebels could be more personal than anyone realized.

The Star Wars Rebels panel [featuring special guests] will take place on the Empire Stage from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and be followed by an exclusive screening of two new episodes on the same stage from 5:30-6:30 p.m. These episodes will feature the series debut of Captain Rex, Captain Gregor, and Commander Wolffe — three clones from the hit animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. They join another fan favorite from the show, Ahsoka Tano, who made her Star Wars Rebels debut in the final episode of Season One.

While the airdate for Season Two of the show is still unclear beyond the generic “Fall 2015” statement, it sounds as though the show will be airing again in October (shortly after the NYCC, of course). Stay on target at Star Wars 7 News as we cover the future of this series and more.

UPDATE 1!

The team over at Jedi News found out about new a TV spot showing some new footage. While they could only get it in camcorder-quality, the new clip shows a lot in under fifteen seconds. It appears to consist of footage from the next three or four episodes. While it has officially been confirmed that the show will begin in October, there sadly is not an announcement for the premiere’s airdate.

UPDATE 2!

And here it is in high-quality.

The video has been pulled down. It was the same as the one above, but instead of “This October” it had a much more specific date – “October 14”. Still keep in mind that this is not official, but most likely that’s the Season 2 premiere date.

Mindless devotion to spoon fed “truth” isn’t any better then making up “truth” yourself. At least when you gain joy from your own thoughts and ideas about something you’re being creative. You canon feeders just want others to do your thinking for you.

Devotion to canon is fine so long you don’t insist others do the same.

The whole purpose of Canon is for content creators to get together and avoid conflict. That’s all. It’s not meant to be a restraint on the imaginings of fandom and it’s certainly not meant to lead to cultish devotion either.

While I agree that the costumes were probably designed more so for their look and feel than functionality, I will say that were it not for Kanan’s shoulder armor, he would have lost an arm in his fight with Vader. So there is definitely justification for it within the plot of the show, especially given that the armor was capable of deflecting a lightsaber blade (must be made of adamantium). As for the old clones, the armor makes sense for character recognition. When you saw these guys in the trailer, you instantly knew who they were, especially Rex with his signature blue accents.

No, it was a decision by the people making it for the art style to be closer to concept art for the original movie. Absolutely nothing to do with copyright, some of the assets from clone wars were even used in this show

Not true. CW owns nothing, but only had the distributions rights for season 1-5.

LFL has the IP over all SW trademarks etc.

The sole reason for the poor looks of Rebels is that Disney is not eager to spend a lot of money. Rebels is poorly funded compared to TCW.

I really don’t get all the people crapping on Rebels. Great characters, Great story, Great design. Every wide shot looks like a painting.

The “kiddie” term that people through around for this show is ridiculous. There is a big difference between a kid show and a show for all ages. The comic relief doesn’t ruin the show like it did for the first 2 seasons of Clone Wars. Rebels is what a refined Star Wars cartoon can be. And in my opinion, is the best piece of Star Wars media to be released since the original trilogy.

Star Wars doesn’t need to be some grimdark, uninspired, edge-fest. People need to get pass their preconceived notions about how Disney is going to turn Star Wars into some sort of child’s franchise. It really isnt. Just enjoy the show.

However, notwithstanding the fact that Luke, given his heritage, probably had way more potential than Kanan, you have to consider that Kanan has had legit Jedi training… about 15 years of it versus Lukes brief stint with Kenobi and Yoda. So even though Luke is Vader’s son and has the potential for greatness, if Kanan is still alive, why didn’t Obi-Wan and Yoda include him and his padawan in their plans for the Return of the Jedi. Just doesn’t make much sense to me if he is alive. And Yoda has communicated already with Kanan through the force, so he knows of his existence. Kanan will inevitably die as will most likely his padawan.

Even in EU there was dozens of jedi left during all of this and then they joined forces with Luke to rebuild jedi order.

Just look at Obi-Wan. He goes hiding on Tatooine and change his name on Ben Kenoby and that all. And he was Vader master. That how easy is for jedi hide from Empire.

I’ve never understood the argument that there can’t be any other Jedi (or sort-of Jedi, seeing as neither Ahsoka nor Kanan made it past padawan) alive during the OT. When in the film does it say that Obi-wan and Yoda are the last of the Jedi? Luke and Leia being their “last hope” doesn’t mean there are no other Force users or near-Jedi in the galaxy (let alone actual Jedi), only that none of them could have defeated Vader and/or the Emperor. In fact, Luke didn’t technically beat them either. Luke won because he was able to turn Vader away from the Dark Side, and Vader killed the Emperor. I think it is very damn clear that only Luke or Leia would have been able to redeem Vader (because of the love of a father for his children), who, in the end, was the one to kill the Emperor, bring balance to the Force, and fulfill the prophesy of the chosen one (though, much like most prophesies, not in the way anyone expected). So it’s always been obvious to me they were saying Luke and Leia were the last hope because no one else, Jedi or otherwise, could have survived facing Vader and the Emperor, let alone get through to Vader. You can make an argument that maybe Ahsoka had a chance, but she is the one who I definitely don’t see making it out of Rebels alive. I’m fairly certain Vader will kill her (which would further prove the point that Luke and Leia were the last hope for reasons having nothing to do with Jedi). But Kanan and/or Ezra could very well still be alive during the OT, and I don’t think that would contradict anything at all in the new films, as long as they are no longer part of the Rebellion, which explains why Luke doesn’t know them. There could also be other Jedi or Force users out there without contradicting anything from the OT, as long as long as they’re not part of the Rebellion. Not too difficult.

Why do they have to make the main clones from TCW “good guys”? I’d have no problem seeing them fighting the Rebels as Storm Troopers. It’s already been established in the new Canon during the events are the book “Tarkin” that some Clones still fight in the ranks of the Storm Troopers. None the less, I have grown fond of Rebels and will enjoy it, I just wish they wouldn’t make things so simple all the time.

isnt it a little absurd? unless Rex and others had brain surgery, they should try to kill Ezra and Kaanan instead of helping them, right? i mean, TCW estabilished order 66 to be bioprogramming, so 15 years shouldnt have erased it from their brains…

    • August 26, 2015 at 3:33 pm
      Permalink

The clones, although influenced greatly by their programming are not without conscience and are not mindless drones. The Lost Missions of Clone Wars showed us how Order 66 was successfully executed by Sidious as the clones were all implanted with a device that would make them obedient to his command to betray the Jedi. However, as shown in the recent closure to the first Kanan comic arc, the clones did have the capacity to disobey the order. In the comic, two clones, Styles and Grey – after turning on the Jedi in Order 66 – set out to capture Kanan and bring him to justice. Grey is shown in the issue to come to his senses and realizes that he followed the order without question almost as if he wasn’t even controlling his own actions. He sees that the Jedi were not guilty of betrayal – he was. In his last effort he saves Kanan from the others. Although Styles doesn’t come to this same revelation, it’s established in canon that the clones have the capacity to defy Palpatine and obviously, at least three others do that very thing. It’s also possible that they removed their implants, like Fives did before them, and never took part in the initial Jedi purge at all. Time will tell.

Luke, Leia or Han alone weren’t a threat. Maybe only Luke was a threat cause he was Vader’s son and Vader didn’t want to kill him.
For me such statements that the crew of Ghoust are ridiculus. Kanan’s just a padawan. Ezra’s a padawan of a padawan. So who exactly is a threat?

Have you watched any of the show? Cause they’re part of a much bigger fledgling Rebel fleet now. In the first season where they were mostly on their own, besides getting information from Fulcrum, they were really only stirring shit up on one single planet. Lothal. They were causing issues there, but nothing significant enough really for the entire Empire to worry about.

I know this show has it’s fans, and I’m fine with that, but I personally feel that it could be ANY Disney cartoon series, they have just shoe-horned in Star Wars characters to draw in the Star Wars fan base.

I am eagerly awaiting the new movies (which, I’m aware, are also Disney), but this series is Aladdin with Darth Vader in it.

If you are a fan of the Disney style and like the series, that’s perfectly fine. But nothing about it feels like Star Wars to me. At all.

I still don’t understand all the bitching from people. This show is on DisneyXD, which is mainly for children. It is made to bring new generation of children into the Star Wars universe. This is how my son is now excited for Star Wars. He doesn’t care weather it makes sense, his in it for the action…not if it flows with what’s there.

People that are complaining should just stop cause the show is still going to go on. The 10% or so who hate it won’t change a thing to the millions of people around the world that like it, and children that love it.

I don’t care about children in Star Wars! I want show that will be interesting for me and many SW fans who are sick of how Star Wars becomes kids’ show!

Star Wars was always somewhat of a kids show. I saw it for the first time at 4 yrs old and still essentially grasped what was going on. But I still love it at 42. And Rebels too. It’s all ages. Not just kids and not just adults. Perhaps this just isn’t the thing for some of you

I personally love Rebels. It’s as Star Warsy as Star Wars can get. Character driven, great design and art work, great writing… This show IS Star Wars. Besides, we’re all Star Wars fans here, so let us stop bickering and remember who the true enemy is… TREKIES

Just to spread the word. It is CONFIRMED. Andy Serkis is Darth Plagueis. Luke is guarding the tomb. The lightsaber is the key to open the tomb.

I am in minority but , Vader in first episode of Rebels season 2 was disappointing for me. Design of Vader is so different from movies . He should remain in Holograph. Vader is ultimate SW character, over exposure is undermining his dignity. There are possibility of his appearance in Rogue One. We must be vigilant
    of keeping his legacy.
