Shattered Empire #1 Variant Cover Revealed, Plus New Covers for the September Issues of Kanan, Star Wars and Lando!

Shattered Empire

Back in March, 2015 Lucasfilm announced that at least 20 new books — from novels for adults and teens to storybooks and sticker books for younger kids — will be released this fall to fill the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. These series of books were labeled as “Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. Now StarWars.com has an exclusive reveal of the first entry from the series – Shattered Empire #1…

From StarWars.com:

The second Death Star has been destroyed. The Emperor is dead. The galaxy celebrates. What happens next?

That’s where Marvel’s upcoming series, Star Wars: Shattered Empire, comes in. Written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Marco Checchetto, Shattered Empire is part of the larger Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens publishing program, and will help tell the story of what happened following the collapse of the Empire.

“I will never, ever get tired of writing the words, ‘A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…’,” Rucka said. “This is the mythology of my life, and to be a part of it, no matter how small, is both humbling and exciting. Working with Marco on this is only making it better, and being able to work in this mythology is an honor and a responsibility we’re both taking very, very seriously!”

“It’s amazing that a boy from a small town near Venice in Italy has the opportunity to be part of Star Wars,” Checchetto said. “I grew up with this mythos and it’s an honor to work on it with Greg. I’m very happy to draw again his fantastic scripts. We will do our best to add a little piece of history to that galaxy far, far away…”

The first two issues of Shattered Empire will be released in September. The miniseries will have a total of four issues.

Also expected in September are: Kanan #6, Star Wars #10 and Lando #5 (of 5). Here are the covers (via comingsoon):

I’m particularly interested in Shattered Empire. The gap in between Eps. 6 and 7 seems to be the biggest gap in between two episodes with the most “unknowns” to fill in.

Though I’m happy we learned how Vader found out Luke is his son.

Wow, you’re easy to please. Like that was something that didn’t require explanation because the twist was a retcon. You’ll buy anything with the Star Wars name on it face it.

You’re a sad sad person who will live by their nostalgia and damn anything and everything that doesn’t meet your preconceived notion of “what Star Wars is”. Riding solely on that nostalgia will keep you from enjoying anything new. So do yourself a favor and either accept that things move forward and never stay the same or stop consuming new Star Wars content because you know you will only complain about the very existence of anything new regardless of its actual quality. Face it.

No, I’m not easy to please, no I don’t buy everything with the brand name on it (that’s a non sequitur), and wow, you’re an idiot.

What difference does it make to you that people find enjoyment in things. Your comment promotes nothing but unecessary negativity.

Does anyone think that Grand Admiral Thrawn will be somewhere in the gaps between “Return of the Jedi” and “The Force Awakens”?

I definitely hope so. And to the other comment regarding this, the Story group has said time and time again they will pull things from the EU as they figure they work

Thrawn is such a fan favorite that I can’t see them not utilizing him in some way. The commenter bellow says that he’s EU so that means no. But there have been quite a few things from the EU that they’ve included in canon since the official canon announcement. Might the character be tweaked in some way? Probably. But there will definitely be a character type of thrawn in the gap. We’ve already seen from the trailer for the new mobile game that high ranking imperials are in a desperate position and need to tread with cunning force to keep from their fleets falling apart. The title is SHATTERED EMPIRE. You think that story line won’t be explored? The chances are high. Will the characters name be Thrawn? It could go either way.
