Battlefront

The most interesting title from the list is the novel inspired by the hotly anticipated videogame Star Wars: Battlefront. (via Cantina staff member TIDMADT):

Twilight Company appears to take place (from the first page) following the destruction of the first Death Star, “Twilight Company” refers to the Rebel Alliance 61st Mobile Infantry. Following the destruction of the Death Star, the Rebel leaders believe it is time to move in from the outer rim to engage the Empire in the more populated core. Some months into it, the order comes down that the fleet is too extended… then the order is given to take no new worlds, just to defend… finally, Twilight Company, who had been the vanguard, now moves from world to world that months before they had conquered to be the rear guard during their evacuation as one by one they are lost to the Empire.

The excerpt ends with the main character Hazram Namir (who seems to be accompanied by Charmer and Gadren) lamenting on the current state of affairs.. “It extracted the Rebellion’s heroes and generals and pointed the way home. It marched over the graves of its own dead soldiers. Some of the company lost home. Some became angry. No one wanted to go back.”

The book is scheduled for a November 3, 2015 release.

At the end of the sampler you can also read the already released official synopsis for the highly anticipated novel Aftermath, set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens:

The War Is Not Over

The second Death Star is destroyed. The Emperor and his powerful enforcer, Darth Vader, are rumored to be dead. The Galactic Empire is in chaos.

Across the galaxy, some systems celebrate, while in others Imperial factions tighten their grip. Optimism and fear reign side by side.

And while the Rebel Alliance engages the fractured forces of the Empire, a lone Rebel scout uncovers a secret Imperial meeting…

I’m probably just nitpicking, but those lightsaber blades on the cover aren’t aligned with their respective hilts. LOLZ

Heir to The Jedi’s cover still bugs me. Luke’s saber hilt is way too small.

Am I the only one that finds purging all the old information and starting all over to be exhausting?

best thing they could have done. now everything will have continuity and young fans can jump in on the new era. exhausting? liberating and fresh. exhausting (if you actually want to affix that term to being a fan of something) is trying to make heads or tails of all the inconsistencies that have racked up over the years

No. You are mosdef not alone.

It takes balls to decide what stays or what goes and no gumption at all to hit the reset button. Weak, disney… very weak.

Star Wars needed to hit the reset, Disney or not. The old EU was convoluted and occasionally contradicted itself as a whole. I LOVE this new continuity of the story. there have been some hits and misses, but overall there is a much better flow. The old EU had years to become great and beloved, we are still within the first year of the new Canon. I can understand your frustration, so let go of your anger, and give in to the new Canon. There’s nothing you can do to change it.

Jeez, another person that knows nothing about the EU. Most contradictions come from The Clone Wars show, that didn’t care about some continuity much.

If you knew how to read, and paid attention to what I wrote. I am NOT putting down the entire old Expanded Universe. Books like the Thrawn series was great, and then there where books like the Dark Empire, not so good. I loathed most of the Dark Horse comics I read, full of contradictions. And yes the clone wars, that’s one of those hit and misses, there were some pretty good stories and there were some pretty bad stories in that series. So anyway my point being, I appreciate the new effort at Canon which is never been done until this point.

Existence of new canon doesn’t disturb me, but ending making of old canon is very irritating.

All of the novels in the new canon that have been released so far contain the first chapter of the next novel to come. As much as I love that there is a Twilight Co. preview, Aftermath is what I’m most excited for, and it is the next novel to be released. Might we get a preview next week when Dark Disciple is released? Or will it be kept completely under wraps?

Has there been a review of ‘lords of the sith’,or is it not released yet?
Interaction between the emperor and Vader in book form sounds interesting, not to mention force lightning and a red blade flying around left right and centre
