UPDATE! New Lando Calrissian Comic Book Series From Marvel in the Works!

Lando Sabacc

We might have not seen Lando Calrissian on the set of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, but what if the coolest cat in the Galaxy gets his own comic book series? This is a very early rumor from Bleeding Cool, but it’s really an interesting one.

January 18, 2015

From Bleeding Cool:

[Jonathan Hickman] said he was taking a break from Marvel after the end of Secret Wars and his run on The Avengers… but might there be room for a small one?

I hear that, accompanying Star Wars, Darth Vader and Princess Leia, Marvel are to publish a series starring Lando Calrissian, the turn-turncoat from Star Wars.

Strangely, the source seems to have his doubts that Hickman will be the one to write the series – though that doesn’t discredit the possibility that a series starring Lando is off the table entirely. Between Lando’s recent appearance on Rebels and this new rumor, things are looking bright for this character. Perhaps Billy Dee Williams might sneak a cameo into The Force Awakens after all?

UPDATE!

Looks like the rumor was true after all. The official Star Wars website gives a solicit of the series.

The smooth-talking scoundrel strikes back! Marvel and Lucasfilm announced today that Lando Calrissian — puffer pig collector, Cloud City administrator, and Rebel hero — will star in his own limited series. Lando #1, from creators Charles Soule (Death of Wolverine, Inhuman, She-Hulk) and Alex Maleev (Daredevil, Spider-Woman, Moon Knight), hits stores in July, and finds Lando embarking on his greatest caper ever.

In Marvel’s Lando, developed closely with Lucasfilm, the titular character — in the days before he became a hero, but still with Lobot at his side — looks to steal one of the galaxy’s most valuable ships. But, as usual, he may be in over his head.

Possibly could be a series of his friendship with Han leading up to losing the Falcon or one within Rebels’ timeline extending the story of his involvement in Idiots Array. Could also be just speculation due to him being in that episode and like you said, a rumor.

Things are gonna start picking up in the next few months. I think they want to establish this “new” continually thing first with the OT to get fans up to speed.

I wish one of the spinoff films will be set during or before the Prequel era, if only to remind people that everything doesn’t have to revolve around the OT.

They’ll get there eventually. I’m guessing that the first spin-off will be set between the PT and OT.

Accept the fact that not everything on here is Ep VII related and if it were there would hardly be any news. I’m grateful, and you should be too for what these guys are doing to keep us informed about most things STAR WARS. IMO it’s the BEST site out there on the internet.

Well considering this site never done an article on day 1 release of Star Wars #1. I have to disagree.
Now if you had of said ”they only post things here that elevates their own self importance” as anyone could have reported returning Marvel in to the universe there was no back slapping opportunities… I might have agreed

Disney is going to mess up the entire starwars universe, I mean come on, Chewbacca returning for episode 7 and he is supposed to be dead, follow the expanded story line people, wish dark horse will return to the comic line for this

The old EU has long since gone. They have stated that from day one, this would be an original story.

Also, Dark Horse isn’t going to get the license back. The closest that they would ever get is if Disney bought them out too.

I’m tired of this complaining STILL. The old EU is gone. It’s legends now. Chewbacca lives and we are better for it. New stories and the canon will expand. I mean seriously we just got a new comic. Why complain? It’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan.

At this point, I am counting the days until we officially change the site’s name. We’re frankly pretty sick of hearing complaints whenever we do pieces that don’t immediately tie into Episode VII. We’ve gone over why we cover other stories before, so please stop pestering us about this.

I hope all of the sw7news staff realize that the vast, silent majority of us appreciate everything they do to bring us all of this information. It is a fact that negative people with negative opinions are much more likely to post on boards than those who are happy with their product. If you look at the total number of idiotic posts compared to the total number of hits your site gets, you’ll see that, by far, the vast majority of your readers are happy with the news you give us. Cheers and keep up the good work!!!

Right minded people couldn’t give a s**t what the site’s called – it’s great. Stick with starwars7news and continue focusing on the important stuff – first port of call for all Star Wars news (…plus 7 is a lucky number!). Love this site and really appreciate the effort that goes into it 🙂

I don’t mean to shut down discussion about what this site should report, just that I ask you do it politely and in a way that is actually constructive instead of complainy.

Do you know what the key to running any successful business is? Understanding the customer. If you look at the largest companies in the world, you’ll see that they all have done exactly that.

Now I’m not personally put off by the fact that the site is majority general Star Wars news and not TFA news. I’ve been on here long enough to accept that and even embrace it.

However, I do understand those who complain about this. Especially people new to the site. They do a search for Episode 7 news, this site comes up and they browse through and don’t find what they’re looking for.

I don’t know if the site is really changing it’s name or not, but I think it’s a good idea. Star Wars 7 news could stay under this site and another site (starwarscanonnews comes to mind) could be the main page.

In the meantime, remember that this is a business, and you are technically management. If I went to Walmart or called up my internet provider and complained about a problem and was met with a response like, “I’m sick of your complaints, just go somewhere else”, I would certainly be put off.

I know it’s difficult when some people can be quite rude, but it’s how you handle people like that which will measure your level of success in business.

    The jaded bunch strikes back.
Whining about a marvel SW comic? That is part of the naw canon, hype buildup to episode 7? On a SW7 fansite? Only on the internet.

What I really would like to see in that comic is the Kessel run. Or was that after the Falcon came to Han? Remember, it’s the new canon so anything is possible.

The art above of Lando playing Sabacc and enjoying Ramen noodles gets me down, great rendering of a very talented artist, but I can’t stand breaks in continuity by distracting situations like the portrayal above depicting Lando in his Administrators garb.

I believe you are the only one that interpreted a design on a cup as “Ramen.”

      THAT really gets ME down.

To me it appears you are just looking for an excuse to say something negative. Is it really that unlikely that a freaking cup can’t have a design on it??? You whiners are rich these days!

And dude might jusut like to wear a cape! Why is that automatically “administrator’s garb?” Don’t be so small-minded, sheesh!

Now come on, you can’t keep laying the turncoat label on the guy. What does he have to do to be forgiven? He apologized, repented, tried to save Han, risked his live on Tatooine, almost got eaten by the sarlacc, made up with Han and blew up the second death star! He started off on the wrong foot, but was a hero in the end. Come On Bleeding Cool.

Wasn’t even Lando’s fault. It was Han and them who had foolishly brought the Empire to his doorstep. THEY should’ve apologized to him!

LEIA: We don’t need your help!

LANDO: Seriously? You wait to be freed before rolling out that gem? How about I hand you back to the Empire? Good luck with that…

Alex Maleev? Looks like Marvel is going full on awful with their artists. I can’t past the dark, darks and sketchiness of his drawing. Its edgy and maybe good for a street-level hero title or something but no sci-fi. Its like a Kindergarten almost.
