Sarah Michelle Gellar to Join the Cast of Star Wars Rebels!

DAVE FILONI (CREATOR AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, "STAR WARS REBELS"), SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR

It looks as though the hype train for the second season of Star Wars Rebels is already chugging away immediately after the excellent first season finale – actress Sarah Michelle Gellar is joining the cast of the show!

From Entertainment Weekly:

The announcement was made at Disney Media’s sale and marketing presentations, though details on her role were not released. “We’re thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for season two,” executive producer Dave Filoni said. “She is a true Star Wars Rebels fan and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions.”

The Buffy alum, whose voiceover roles have also included Robot Chicken and TMNT, joins a voice cast that includes her husband Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, Taylor Gray and David Oyelowo.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

As mentioned above, Sarah Michelle Gellar is no stranger to “genre shows”, as demonstrated by her involvement in the cult classic horror-comedy series Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It’ll be interesting to see not only what the character she plays will be like, but how that character will interact with Kanan (who is voiced by her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr.) and the other cast members.

My bet is Princess Leia as well!
I’d like to see Mara Jade but I don’t think they will save that character. Mon Mothma is another possibility.

There is some truth in that joke…The movies will, and always have, distanced themselves from comics/side shows. We won’t ever see in any film the mention of EU material or the new EU material. You might get a cheap easteregg in the background but nothing else. I mean, there’s a reason Ahsoka’s not mentioned in RotS…and it isn’t because Anakin is busy. Just my opinion. Tear me apart if you wish.

Uhmmm…. TCW is canon, thereby Ashoka is canon… She wasn’t mentioned in ROTS as,the Clone Wars cartoon was not in production yet and her character was not created.

Simple reason explaining her absence… She left the Jedi order before the war was over and had no influence on the ROTS events.

I never said it wasn’t. Maybe I should reword it and make it shorter. The movies won’t make any attempt to include EU or new EU. The movies won’t restrict themselves to it/them. Never have, aside from an easteregg. So, don’t hold your breath. Rebels/CW are fun but isn’t it a little telling that the live action movies say nothing of Ahsoka? I would think OB1 would have said at least once in the final dual, “What would Ahsoka think, Anakin?”.

As was previously said, how could it be “telling” of anything if the character of Ahsoka was not even created when the last movie was made?
You anti-EU types are often ignorant in your “only movies” mentality, when there are numerous characters, vehicles and plots that had their beginnings in the EU and GL thought enough of them to include them in the movies -far more than just “easter eggs”. Perhaps many of you are too young to remember, but from 1983 until TPM, the EU WAS Star Wars, as nothing else was happening with the franchise. I cannot understand what anyone has to gain or be proud of, that they HATE what has over the years become an integral part of the Star Wars experience – whether Disney in their infinite wisdom has rejected it or not.

            “the EU WAS Star Wars”

Emphasis on was not added by me, yet appropriate.

The movies made the EU not the other way around.

            Anyhow…

I find it incredibly odd that people are so defensive on topics like this. Not once did I put anyone down or tell you that the EU (old or new) wasn’t worth your time. If you like your EU keep your EU. All I said was that the movies and, well, everything else will always be separate. The movies have never and never will restrict themselves to EU. They may take some inspiration, but never restrict themselves to it. You want proof? I have six movies to show you. The seventh will follow the same format…no EU old or new.

My personal opinion…yes, you can say I’m a “hater” (even though I never put your ideology down, please look up hypocrite). I thought that when Disney said they were going to cut out old EU and start a New Canon they were actually going to do what they said, which was flesh out the story. Instead, again in my opinion, we’re getting things that don’t make sense, a water down. I don’t like how fast Ezra is getting a hang of the Force/how powerful he is with it (it cheapens Luke), I don’t like how Kanan is a surviving Jedi (it cheapens OB1 and Yoda), I don’t like how Luke confronts Vader BEFORE ESB (it cheapens the meeting at Bespin), etc etc…

So, I chose to exclude this. You are free to include it AND old EU if you want.

All I’m really saying is, don’t be surprised to see the same “canon hierarchy” GL had in the past. Oh, and I’ll bet you a dollar to a hole in a doughnut that when it happens the movies will be gospel followed by everything else amounting to gossip.

            Just my opinion…

news flash – there is no “new” EU. Everything from the announcement that the old EU was going to be ignored is now part of the SW universe. Educate yourself.

Yes, on the most part I agree with you. The movies always will be on a higher level than any other SW media.
But still I treat these SW stories (movies, series, books…) as a whole, “united” world. This is how my imagination works 😀 (maybe it have something to do with my interests in history)

We don’t know how the studio will handle this topic in the new movies. The 6 films have been made during the previous policy, when GL thought about the EU as a “parallel world” and the studio tried to fit the stories into a level system.
Now we have a new policy, where “officialy” every story is on the same level. I don’t think either, that the new movies will have too much connection with the other medias, but I like how hard they trying to hold the new EU cohesive.
But by the end, the studio always handle the movies on a higher priority. If they see fit they will overwrite new EU stories.

People would loose their minds (myself included) if she was mara jade! Even if the EU is dead and she has nothing to do with episode 7 and she was just a random inquisitor, it would still be a huge crowd-pleaser and not too intrusive to those who were not EU fans. That said…I think a young Leia or new character is far more likely.

Anyone who complains about this site reporting on things outside of Episode 7 is going to have their comment deleted. I’m sick of explaining why we report on other things related to Star Wars on a Star Wars news blog.

Man the guy running this site is gonna have a hell of a time policing everyone’s opinion. Isn’t that the point of a blog?

    • March 4, 2015 at 7:11 am
      Permalink

      Allow me to respectfully interject.

It isn’t opinion policing. It’s something that we’ve stated over and over, and it’s even covered on the “About” page. We cover everything TFA-related as news develops, and when there’s an absence of news about the movie, we cover other things related to Star Wars.

Constantly complaining when there’s an absence of news on TFA is not an opinion, it’s quite frankly obnoxious. It’s also ignoring the work we put into covering TFA-related scoops when they are unveiled, such as the helicopter pilot interviews from two days ago that revealed a couple of key details about the movie.

To put it in perspective – I don’t suppose you’d like it if a couple of people kept telling you that you were running your site wrong because they don’t care about specific headlines. You’re free to dislike a bit of news we report, but saying that we’re betraying the principles of the site is the problem here.

      Thank you for your consideration.

Seeing Dave Filoni`s beard reminds me. Statistics have shown, and research has proven your more likely to get further in life and prosper if you have a beard. Even without all that its clear to see with your own eyes. Dave Filoni, has a beard, the creator of a new successful animation series. God had a beard look how successful he was. Darwin, Luke skywalker has a beard look how successful he was and obi wan. Darwin. Its a endless list.

This idea is `slowly` starting to catch on with employment agency’s advising on interviewees to grow beards. This is not gender specific also. Women are exploring the idea. Try it for yourself and see if your life chances improve. If they do contribute to the research also.
