UPDATE! Full Synopsis for the “Dark Disciple” Novel Revealed. Based on Eight Unused Scripts.

dark-discipleDark Disciple is an upcoming novel starring Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos. It is written by Christie Golden and will be released on July 7, 2015. The novel is part of the new Star Wars Canon and is based on scripts that were written for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series. Check out the full synopsis after the jump.

From RandomHouse (via JediBibliothek):

The only way to bring down the dark side’s most dangerous warrior may be for Jedi and Sith to join forces.

In the war for control of the galaxy between the armies of the dark side and the Republic, former Jedi Master turned ruthless Sith Lord Count Dooku has grown ever more brutal in his tactics. Despite the powers of the Jedi and the military prowess of their clone army, the sheer number of fatalities is taking a terrible toll. And when Dooku orders the massacre of a flotilla of helpless refugees, the Jedi Council feels it has no choice but to take drastic action: targeting the man responsible for so many war atrocities, Count Dooku himself.

But the ever-elusive Dooku is dangerous prey for even the most skilled hunter. So the Council makes the bold decision to bring both sides of the Force’s power to bear—pairing brash Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos with infamous one-time Sith acolyte Asajj Ventress. Though Jedi distrust for the cunning killer who once served at Dooku’s side still runs deep, Ventress’s hatred for her former master runs deeper. She’s more than willing to lend her copious talents as a bounty hunter—and assassin—to Vos’s quest.

Together, Ventress and Vos are the best hope for eliminating Dooku—as long as the emerging feelings between them don’t compromise their mission. But Ventress is determined to have her retribution and at last let go of her dark Sith past. Balancing the complicated emotions she feels for Vos with the fury of her warrior’s spirit, she resolves to claim victory on all fronts—a vow that will be mercilessly tested by her deadly enemy . . . and her own doubt.

UPDATE!

A small – but important – bit of news on this book hit the web yesterday. While many expected this book to be based on four scripts (as was the case with the Darth Maul: Son Of Dathomir comic series), author Christie Golden revealed an important point of interest on Twitter about the number of scripts she used.

That’s right – Dark Disciple covers twice as much material as people initially presumed. Considering that the average story arc in The Clone Wars was four episodes long, that suggests that this novel will cover two un-animated story arcs. That’s quite a step up for the character of Quinlan Vos, who had previously appeared in one episode of the show in a major role. Could it be possible that these two story arcs are actually from different seasons, dealing with the interactions between him and Asajj Ventress? It’s certainly neat food for thought.

Special thanks to Star Wars Underworld for making this find.

Wow, that sounds so cool!!! Too bad I won’t be able to read it, because I am Russian and it’s gonna take forever until someone will translate the book D: I didn’t read any of the new novels because of that!! I tried reading A New Dawn and Tarkin in English, but it is taking waaaay too long, I don’t have that much time… I will read Aftermath no matter how long will it take and how hard will it be though. I just can’t miss this!!:)))

hopefully the majority of this novel won’t be boring as hell, like A New Dawn, where the plot was stopping the empire from taking control of mineral deposits on a moon.

This could be unrelated to anything but out of ineterest I was wondering what the yellow line symbolises across the male characters nose. The same kind of yellow lines appear around kylo rens helmet and across the nose part in the leaked concept art. Would be interesting to know what it symbolises (if anything). A rank or right of passage maybe.

I think I once read somewhere that `Darth` symbolises leaving your old life behind and being reborn new and embracing a new path. Maybe its some kind of sith symbol to represent it. Or an ancient mark to symbolise something to do with sith. Maybe even achieving a master rank in a martial art/fighting style.

        4. Quinlan Vos predates Disneys Acquisition of Star Wars, he first appeared as a background character on tatooine in The Phantom Menace (although it was the EU that said that was him… the character of Quinlan was still based on the background character)

    From Star Wars Wookieepedia:

Jan Duursema has written on her forum that Kiffar markings are not applied as paint. She says, “Yes, the Kiffar tattoos are permanent tattoos and not paint. They do use both a design and color system to identify the clans. We have dealt mostly with the Vos clan who have the yellow tattoos–though I recall one of Quin’s cousins having a more greenish tattoo”.

How is it a lame money grab to tell new and different stories with side characters and introduce new and different places in a book?

I am sorry, but books, comics, video games, and all other media are just as valid as film in every way.

And not every damn one of them has to follow a main character from a film, every character is their own person with their own story that deserves to be told and heard.

Star Wars is a universe of possibilities.

….but, movies make at least 200x the amount of money that the average comic book series would make, and around 10x the money the average video game would make. That rate is enough to render a comic book series or video game invalid, if you want to be real.

Some people just lack imagination. Is it that hard to believe that Kylo Ren could be related to Quinlan Vos? If not a son due to age gap, then grandson? He doesn’t even have to be a Vos he could still just be a Kiffar which would explain:

    1) Peculiar yellow lines on concept art helmet (yes I know they were changed to silver, still could be another Kiffar tribe color).
    2) The so-called “visions” that are apparent in TFA. (Kiffar from Wookieepedia: “About one in a hundred Kiffar had the ability to read the memories of inanimate objects—including formerly animate objects like corpses—by touch.”)
    3) Thus the rumor of “collecting Sith artifacts”.

    • March 24, 2015 at 6:36 pm
      Permalink

Helmets arent faces… Kiffar are from the EU, which is largely dead.

Thyis book is not even a Tie-in to TFA, this is leftovers from the Clone Wars television series.

      • March 24, 2015 at 11:59 pm
        Permalink

Just because “the EU is dead” doesn’t mean they can’t make references that have a changed background.

It’s already apparent in the TFA trailer with the lightsaber, Rey’s speeder, and the fact that the film will be about a girl getting help from a black stormtrooper – looks very similar to Star Wars: Legacy Volume 2. Look it up. They’ve clearly cherry picked and made references to everything including the Droids Tv series with “Kybo Ren”.

It’s clear they want to keep fans of the old media interested and not slap us in the face with dismissing ALL EU.
