Star Wars Rebels Review: S01 E09 “Idiot’s Array”.

Lando

Disney has released the next episode of Star Wars Rebels: “Idiot’s Array” on their Disney XD app. In this episode the coolest cat in the galaxy Lando Calrissian, voiced by the one and only Billy Dee Williams makes a return to a galaxy far, far away. Join our Rebels host and read our review after the jump…

Here’s a small excerpt from the review:

Rebels has given us three very serious and meaningful episodes in a row, so you knew that a more “light hearted” episode had been due for awhile. Rest assured…it has happened with this latest episode.

Does “light hearted” mean good? Bad? Worse? All depends on your point of view because I think this episode will rub some fans the wrong way, while others will enjoy it.

Let’s get into it shall we? SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!

Lando’s cool. Cooler then Han Solo? No.

Easily cooler than Han. And more of a true rogue, not some pirate-with-a-heart-of-gold like our Han Solo.

I’m glad Lando is back…Especially since he seems to kind of have been dissed for a role in VII.

Yeah, can’t understand why they didn’t get the WHOLE gang back.

I’m sure Lando will show up in episode 8 if hes not in episode 7.

Billy D deserves to be in the new trilogy

This was an odd episode of Rebels. Lando stole the show and I was hardly aware of any story beyond him – he was the planet and everything else satellites existing to make him look even more cool. Lando needs his own series 🙂

That would be so fun to work with Billy D! I’m excited to see Lando in episode 8 or 9 and I actually think it’s a positive thing to not re-introduce him right away in episode 7. That way each re-introduction is given more breathing room and Lando can be presented with maximum impact.

Billy D Williams looks like he’s getting into shape which suggests to me that perhaps he’s training to be in episode 8.

His “Legends” ship name, The Lady Luck, isn’t bad but I think in the Movies his ship should be called the Kyber Colt 😉

Well, while it was certainly exciting to have Billy Dee Williams Back as Lando, the episode itself was sub-par to me. The whole story seemed to be eclipsed by Billy Dee’s “starpower” so to speak – in other words, I couldn’t really pay attention to the story much because of how much Lando stuck out. Also, you could clearly hear the age in Williams’ voice, and so at times the character didn’t really feel like the Lando we knew in ESB and ROTJ.

When did Lando go from being black to being a really tan white? Whoever designs the characters on these god damn animated shows has their head up their ass.

Yes, no room for racism here….Whilst watching this episode last night I thought that Lando was the best done character in the show so far..

if you think lando is not going to be in the new trilogy….then you’re a moron. hell i bet he even has offspring in the trilogy. They got Warrick Davis back for gods sake…do you think they would actually leave out one of the main characters from the empire strikes back and the person who destroyed the second deeathstar? cmon now…

He’s still the owner of the Falcon in Rebels?

It wasn’t mentioned actually. I was hoping on seeing it myself.

I liked the episode but what struck me watching the promo is that they really dropped the ball animating him. All of Billy D’s lines were twice as good when you could see what he was doing with his face. The cartoon version is too animated (no pun intended), too peppy. That subtlety is what makes Lando such a smoothy. 🙂

I really hope Lando will be part of the Ghost team!

Because if he won’t be in episode 7, 8 or 9 this would be great to see or even hear him again 🙂

I will never forgive Lando for making a deal with Darth Vader and allowing Han to be placed in Carbonite. Lando had no idea if Han would have survived the freezing process. For all he knew Han could have died.
