UPDATE! The Star Wars: Episode VII Wrap Party is Happening Tonight. Cast and Crew Get the Special Treatment.

Episode VII Hat

2 weeks ago Kathleen Kennedy revealed that there are still 3 weeks until Episode VII wraps filming. We already know of several cast members who wrapped their scenes (Anthony Daniels, Christina Chong, Oscar Isaac and Harrison Ford). Now it appears that more people are done filming and also it looks like everyone is getting a special treatment by LFL, Bad Robot and Disney…

James Rose posted the following really cool tweet:

It may not be very apparent but apart from the gratitude the letter is about the Episode VII hat that is slightly visible in the top of the picture. We’ve already seen it on Lupita and Boyega:

Still it looks not everybody is done with the filming. 🙂

UPDATE!

Well, here’s a definite proof that Episode VII has indeed wrapped filming. Episode VII concept designer Will Htay has just posted this (via MagnarTheGreat):

Must be shooting scenes Carrie has without other major characters. I can see why they would shoot these last.

Probably right, but just to speculate…Carrie is still filming, Mark is still there and just shaved his beard, cast and crew are starting to head home…might be a great time to film a secret “twist” under far less prying eyes?

    ;if SW7 is as brilliantly heartfelt as that letter then it`s gonna be a truly great Star Wars movie…I`ve got a good feeling about this:}

Episode VII… the movie without a name.

What a lovely note from JJ there. If he puts in just one iota of heart from the note into the script then I think we’re ok.

…a small part of me (ok,a big part) still wishes that JJ was doing the whole trilogy – I know Ryan Johnson could be amazing but JJ just seems to completely get what Star Wars ia all about.

But remember episode 8 has to be different. It can’t be a rehash and JJ proved with into darkness that he isn’t a stable choice to do sequels, particularly sequels that are supposed to get darker. Into darkness was a rehash. It even had the exact same character arcs. JJ is the perfect choice for episode vii as he understands how to start a story in motion, he’s brilliant at casting, he understands effects, understands star wars. He is great at creating something. But there are better directors out their to take something and then properly expand and deepen the story with a sequel.

I never thought that, why ST into darkness was ok but not as good as ST.

So once agsinwe ignore the fact the JJ didn’t write the script for Star Trek.

It’s incredible how little some people know about the film industry when they act like they know so much about what a Director is.

          It’s pretty silly.

Sure, JJ didn’t write the script, but you mean to tell me he had no power to make changes to it, like remove the magical blood and cut back on the “Wrath of Khan” fan service?

I actually liked Into Darkness, but fear not JJ is not directing Episode 8; Rian Johnson is directing it

Into Darkness was a stupid fun movie when it could’ve been more competent had the script been thought out more carefully.

I liked Into Darkness too tbh, but it wasn’t great and it wasn’t a proper sequel.

It just depends upon how well he helps to introduce the new characters on the screen. In Star Trek, I had a hard time getting into and caring about any of the new cast. At least in this case, the old established cast will be around to help make the transition.

My main problem with JJ’s Star Trek character portrayals was that they were supercharged cartoony versions of the real thing rather than properly fleshed out characters in their own right.

Kirk was into chicks and was kind of a reckless but well-meaning asshole, Spock was too logical and emotionless (especially for a half-human), Bones said Bones-y things, Chekov was heavy on the accent, etc.

Agreed. By “Into Darkness”, I was kind of relating to them a bit more, but not by a whole lot. Establishing new characters in a way that makes you care about wanting to watch them is a tricky thing. I’m hopeful for SW7 though.

As far as JJ’s Star Trek films are concerned, the directing is competent, the sfx are dazzling and the actors talented…

Hmm. Thinking about Carrie’s ass in 2014 is like looking into a mirror and seeing how old I’ve become.

CARRIE: It’s not the years, honey; it’s the skid marks.

You can always count on her to say some shit like that. Daisy’s sure got some big shoes to fill. 😛

well, it’s not her ass and definitely not her boobs (also gone) so I can’t imagine where else she has it where it counts. she has a strange way of speaking now and it looks like she got hit in the mouth with a sledgehammer.

despite all that, I’m sooo glad she is back as Leia even though they’ll probably keep her scenes to a minimum.

who the f*=k are you people to say such nasty shit about strangers. I bet a million dollars that if this screen were gone and replaced by your face the mere sight of seeing your black troll eyes and limitless ugliness would burn my eyesn out of my head and had I not turned my head to keep from this terrible thing you do when people look at you (the reason im assuming your either asian, or living at home in the basement dark in the company of only Minecraft and your Dream. You only dreamed the one. You know The one thats never gonna happen) And so eye burner shut up about how people look on film. Your never ever gonna be… Unless Marvel makes EyeBurner into a Super Hero in which case… no they’d pass on you then too.

So 7 more days of filming is left? Then post production.

-John Williams does score? Or has he already?
    -Movie trailers are put together.
    -Marketing.
    -Editing.
    -Actors get paid.

Not sure what else happens in post production? What can you think of?

        hate test screenings.
Why common people with poor cinema opinions can change the “work” of possible great artists?
Come on! They don’t like the final of a movie, they put in a paper, and the final has to be changed.

The ending to the movie Blade was saved with test screenings. Not always a bad thing.

Imagine if Lucas listened to PT screenings by fans. Jar Jar cut and CGI Anakin.

so so so much happens in post and most don’t understand or know. Editing, marketing (they usually have 6+ trailer editors editing different ideas, one gets picked), marketing-specific VFX (finishing certain “hero” shots earlier than the sequences’ schedules), reshoots/pickups, sound design, the entire VFX pipeline and finishing process, writing music, recording music, ADR (dialogue re-recording), DI/finishing (conforming HD “offline” edit to 2K/4K online high-res), color grading, sound mixing… I could go on.

Oh, and understand every process I listed above goes through director review, notes, revision, notes, revision, notes, revision, pending final approval, notes… more notes… final approval. It all takes a lot of time and endless hours of work by an army of people 🙂
