UPDATE! Officially Star Wars: Episode 7 Script is Ready. Filming Starst in May. J.J. Abrams Confirms Talks With Jesse Plemons.

Yes, that’s right. As Bad Robot tweeted yesterday it took them about 3-4 days to print the Episode 7 script using analog technology, but finally it’s officially ready. The news came directly from J.J. Abrams who also confirmed that there are indeed talks with Jesse Plemons who just a few hours ago denied any Star Wars involvement…

The story again comes from The Wrap who were the first to report the Jesse Plemons rumor:

“We’re working really hard and we’ve got our script and we’re in deep prep,” Abrams told TheWrap. “Full steam ahead, y’know.”

“He (Jesse Plemons) is one of the actors that we’ve talked to, yeah,” Abrams said. “But, you know. It’s not often that I read about actors that I’m going to be meeting … that I get to read articles about actors who are going to come in. And so I get to see someone and say, ‘Oh, I read that I’m going to see you.’ … It’s usually agents talking to people about what’s happening. It’s a lot of noise.”

He was also asked about whether he’d like to shoot the new films in IMAX, and said he plans to shoot “Episode VII” on film.

“In the right situation I would,” like to shoot in IMAX, he said. “The problem with IMAX is it’s a very loud camera. It’s a very unreliable camera. Only so much film can be in the camera. You can’t really do intimate scenes with it. It’s slow. They break down often. Having said that, they’re working on digital versions of these and so there may be a version one day. But we’re going to be shooting this next movie on film.”

TheWrap asked Abrams about the craziest “Episode VII” rumors he’s heard.

“There’ve been so many of them,” he said. “It’s amazing to see how many there are. … But it’s sweet because it shows that there’s an interest in this movie that we all obviously know is there. But it is an incredible thing to see how many crazy things get thrown out that people often then write commentaries about. How happy they are, how disappointed they are about something that is completely false. It’s a lot of noise, frankly.”

We asked if Abrams plans to direct the next “Star Wars” trilogy entirely on his own, or if he might bring in another director — Cuaron, for example.

“I’m just focusing on ‘Episode VII’ right now,” he said.

So the most important thing we’ve learned from this article is never to trust an actor when asked about Star Wars. Forget all you’ve heard so far… 🙂

UPDATE!

Several new bits form another interview with Abrams:

According to that source Abrams also confirmed that filming begins in May in England:

“That’s the current plan,” Abrams said. “We have our script and we’re full steam ahead. Have script, will travel.”

“We can’t talk about story yet,” said the director. As far as casting, he had no details but said they will come “soon, and I look forward to that so that we can get past it and we can get on with it.”

Abrams described working on the much-anticipated film as “thrilling. But it’s a lot.”

It says more about the people putting forth the rumors, than about Mr. Abrams. If it’s said on the internet, it must be true, just like for TV!

“He (Jesse Plemons) is one of the actors that we’ve talked to”
IGN was there and reports he said -“He was one of the people we spoke with”
I doubt JJ would just confirm a potential actor, considering he’s been so mysterious about benedict cumberbatch and everyone else. Maybe Jesse had his meetings but he wasn’t good enough, and when he was earlier asked about his involvement with episode 7 he just denied he had the meetings. Plus didn’t some other source say that he wasn’t in the running? I do enjoy reading into things far too much !..

Rumormongers desperate for internet traffic contradicting one another, based on talk from agents trying to promote their client by getting them press? Who’d of thunk it.

I like the quote “soon, and I look forward to that so that we can get past it and we can get on with it.” as referring to a casting announcement. I think Abrams feels it will be a big monkey off his back to reveal whether or not the big 3 will be back. I’m sure he’s reading a lot of the blog posts and user comments. To me, that’s the most important announcement (the big three being in the movie would put it up several huge notches in my book). After the announcement, things can move on.

They probably have constructer a lot of props and scenery already. And I wonder how that works before they where finished with the script. Do they have to scrap new ideas inn the script because they made that spaceship or scenery based on an earlier ideas and version of the script?

For that reason, I think it’s safe to say that they probably haven’t constructed too much for the set already. Things are always subject to change in the early pre-production of any film. If anything, they may have built/started building the Falcon (since that’s kind of a given for the seventh movie), but other than that, they’ll probably start building the sets now up until and through the filming in May.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they’d begun work on some basic sets like the Falcon and other stuff that they knew they’d need.

Remember, we don’t know the extent of the script changes that Abrams and Kasdan ended up making. The most we’ve really heard is that they rewrote it to make the original cast a more prominent part of the story – and I’m not even sure that this has been confirmed through any official channels.

So it’s very possible that major story elements and environments have remained fairly constant throughout the screenwriting process, at least to the point where they may have been able to get a lot of things designed by now.

Obviously they wouldn’t have begun building sets on the actual soundstages yet, as that’d be a helluva lot of rent to have to shell out over the next few months until principle photography begins. I bet there are some pretty cool set pieces taking shape (or getting ready to take shape) on LFL and/or Disney backlots, though.

Or you know, it’s just a rumor by people who want to imagine drama behind the scenes.

Absolutely. We really just don’t know very much for sure yet. At this point, it’s almost all rumors and speculation, no matter how certain the purveyors of those rumors and speculation seem to be about what they’re telling us.

completely unknown people would be the best, then people have nothing they can complain about & no other performances to compare with.
& it´s a great way to keep the new actors rumours low.

I think the only confirmation people need is the big 3 (& other characters from the original Movies) all new characters/actors will just be a delight to get to know as things progresses & when the film comes.& if they (or some) are completely unknown there is nothing bad people can say about them.

They probably have someone reading through online comments, including this site (the anonymus option is great) I hope they pay no attention to people being outraged at rumours. yes. Rumours! how can people get angry over stuff that has not been confirmed? Specaulation is always fun of course, that´s why we like this blog, as long as it´s civil.

It seems to me that every time there is a rumour about an actor it is being dissed, so i can understand why they are very catious about information on new actors entering the franchise. It is not fair to judge an actors performance before it has even been done.

    • January 21, 2014 at 2:20 pm
      Permalink

“It is not fair to judge an actors performance before it has even been done.” Why? Isn’t it the job of the directors to judge how an actor’s performance wil be before he sees it? On the same token, isn’t it fair, as movie goers, we have a right to judge how good a movie will be before we go see it? If we don’t have that right, then just go to the theatre, put your hard earned money down, and just walk into the first movie that you see listed on the list.

I’m sorry, but I do have the right to judge a movie by who the actors in it. These actors, directors, producers, etc. make a lot of money from people like you and me spending our money. They better darned well be good actors and put on a good show.

I don’t think you can rule any actor out, not Jesse Plemons, not Ronan, not Weaving, not Driver. Well, maybe Fassbender and definitely Cumberbatch (too much of a red herring).
