Are all these novels for kids? Wasn’t this supposed to be a gritty, dark, war movie?
YA = pg-13
It would surprise me if it was too gritty. Star Wars is for kids and the kids in all of us, once they depart from that it ain’t Star Wars any more.
Of course. Doesn’t mean Lucasfilm is gonna skip out on that merch money.
I get the spoilers issue but why are these released so long after the film premieres?
So they can have time to write them to match the movies final cut.
I hate how they’re doing the novelizations these days. There’s no freedom to add additional depth to characters when every scene in the book must match the movie. One thing the prequels had going for them was that I could read the novelization and know that I got a much better understanding of what made the characters tick.
I ALWAYS tell people to just skip ROTS and just read the novel, because then you will be stoked about how great the story was rather than disappointed by the movie.
I agree. There’s little point to reading a novel if it doesn’t include any extra material. I found a lot to like about the Prequel novels because of what you said: there’s more backstory to flesh out things that just wouldn’t work on screen for one reason or another. I really enjoyed The Force Awakens, but the novel offered very little in the way of “off-screen” events and information. If that’s the case going forward, I’ll stick to the non-movie Star Wars books and grab a bullet point list of anything extra that appears in future film adaptation novels.
yeah, it bugs me too. I have a 12 year old who would love to read these but two of them aren’t out until 5 months after RO is in theaters.
I love the cover for the Jyn novel. <3
Is it a Jyn novel? I do really love that piece, but imagining that it’s the cover for a R1 YA novel makes me a little iffy on it – that’s a piece about Jyn’s journey, not about a team of rebels that steal the plans to the ultimate weapon.
