Christmas Becomes a Star Wars: The Force Awakens-Themed Battlefield in New Duracell Ad.
If you’re like us, then opening up and playing with Star Wars gifts on Christmas (or whatever religious holiday you observe) was the highlight of your last week of the year. The latest ad from Duracell dramatizes that scenario by featuring a brother-and-sister duo take on the First Order in the time period of The Force Awakens.
There are also a few little things of note in the video. One is that all the “Imperial” technology shown is from The Force Awakens – except, oddly enough, for the AT-ATs, which look to be based on the models seen in The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi rather than the new movie. (Eagle-eyed viewers have noticed that there are new walkers in the Instagram teaser.) Another is that both of the lightsabers shown in the the advertisement belonged to Luke Skywalker at some point. It’s a bit of a stretch, but I think that this ad is implying that, in addition to seeing the blue lightsaber get “passed on” to the new protagonists of the Sequel Trilogy, we might yet see the green lightsaber in some capacity. Finally, the sister is wearing a Rey outfit (which, given her use of the Force, could be a subtle hint that Rey is or was a Jedi), while the brother is wearing standard Jedi robes – which appear to be based on the figure (probably Luke) in contact with R2-D2 in the trailer. Admittedly, I might be looking a little too much into this, but in any case, the attention to detail they put into bringing this stuff to life is a joy to behold.

When he’s not hard at work with his college studies, he keeps himself busy by reporting on all kinds of Star Wars news for SWNN and general movie news on the sister site, Movie News Net. Nice Kylo Ren mask hanging behind the kids door.
Didn’t notice that 🙂 I did notice the Jedi fighting silhouettes in his room and the sister was being taken to Kylo’s shuttle. Also thinking as I am writing this…Since she was dressed as Rey… Is she someone’s sister.
SHE IS THE BOY’S SISTER!
YEAH I KNOW! I said his sister was being taken to Kylo’s shuttle. People on here were corallating the commercial as to what might happen in the film. (So Rey in the commercial has Force Powers and is being taken to Kylos shuttle.) Does the sister in the commercial mirror Rey being someone ‘s sister in the film. I thought it was quite clear…but I guess
Next to 3PO he also appears to have the Ikea pendant lamp, aka the “Death Star” lamp. Pretty clever if you ask me.
Weird seeing old Imperial technology alongside the newer models. I wouldn’t read too much into that though but I think you may have a point with Rey using a familiar blue lightsaber.
Wait so Finn will use a green one i guess he will die then since so many people hate him already(aka everyone at my school)
Lol, Really? We have aisles of his unsold figures here. I mean he is kind of boring looking compared to the other far as his design goes, The coolest thing he does that we know is use a lightsaber but for all we know he just picks it up once like Han.
I wouldn’t read too much into the commercial though, But if we did then I think it means that Luke builds another green lightsaber. Unless he picked it up in Jedi offscreen after losing it.
Is the dad giving that AT-AT a prostate exam?
You just made my day.
hahahahahahaha
I never thought I’d see the day when the OT ships made a comeback, even if it is in a commercial. I figured getting the Millenium Falcon and Stormtroopers was enough for me to die happy. This is so awesome!
Yup, this was me when I was 6!! Complete with Return of the Jedi T-Shirt 🙂
Who saw BB-8 outside? 🙂
Also: First post. Hi, folks!
when o-O
Hidden in plain sight as a snowman. 🙂
It’s an ad for batteries guys, don’t read too much into what happens in this commercial to actually reflect the movie.
Do you honestly think Disney previewed the Force Awakens for a Duracel marketing team to make a story accurate commercial?
But we get a closer look at Kylo’s shuttle in this ad.
However, they didn’t use the First Order era AT-AT’s. Now that would have been hella cool if we got our first glimpse of them in this ad.
Also, maybe it’s a hint that the two kids in this ad are siblings. Yes, this could allude to Luke and Leia, but also to Rey and Kylo. The sister in the ad is dressed as Rey.
I wouldn’t put it over Lucasfilm’s story group and JJ from authorizing this ad and what it could be hinting at for the movie.
I mean if this was as telling as people are making it sound than TFA actually takes place on on earth
Good time to be a Star Wars fan. I was 7 when A New Hope was released. It brings a lot of cheer in my heart to see another generation getting to experience the wonder like I did when I was a child.
I agree. I was born in ’96 and I didn’t get into Star Wars until my early teens (so I totally missed the prequel hype but I DID see it all around me), but it’s nice to see this hype build again from a different perspective.
…If that boy’s name is Bart, I’m gonna slap somebody.
Now that was an impressive ad!
“Follow my lead” is an Obi-wan quote.
There aren’t any intentional hints in this ad. It’s just kids playing as their favorite Star Wars characters.
Rey can’t have been a Jedi or she wouldn’t have asked Han Solo about ‘those stories’ – unless Luke lied to her about ‘the stories’ of the end of the Empire (since Luke was the last Jedi, in order to become a Jedi, Rey would have had to train with him).
The easy explanation: The Force starts to awaken in her, and she wants answers. So she asks Han if the legends, the myths about the Jedi, Force, etc. are true.
I’m not sure that’s so convincing: she would have been training with Luke and never thought to ask why he was the only Jedi? If she new the stories, did she not think to ask Luke? Also: if she did train with Luke, wouldn’t the Force already be awakened in her? IMHO there’s no way she was trained, let alone be a Jedi.
what about Finn is he not force sensative to i mean you cant go up against a Knight of Ren without being a Jedi and if they kill off Finn i will pissed since they have always had 2 force sensatives(REY AND FINN) and one non Force sensative(Poe)
You know, there is some serious work that was put into that trailer. The CGI was pretty daggone good as well as the special effects. Uniforms for the storm troopers, spot on. You actually “might” be able to read a little into this. It looks like they consulted someone higher up.
r2-d2 does not look CGI neither does C3PO
Way better than a battery add has any right to be!
Yes it’s just a battery ad. But maybe it’s a hint that the two kids in this ad are siblings. Of course, this alludes to Luke and Leia, but also could to Rey and Kylo. The sister in the ad is dressed as Rey.
Both siblings are using lightsaber colors that Luke used in the original trilogy (blue and green), and the color which Anakin used in the Prequels (blue). Why didn’t they use yellow? Or purple?
I wouldn’t put it over Lucasfilm’s story group and JJ from carefully scrutinizing every aspect of this ad and authorizing or putting into it what it could be hinting at for the movie.
I loved this commercial because it reminds me of my childhood in the 80’s. With my trusty lightsaber made from a wrapping paper tube, I destroyed 100s of AT-ATs on Hoth (aka my back yard) and chased many Storm Troopers out of my house. If things got really hairy, I would call in Optimus Prime and GI Joe for backup.
Ha,I used to have a whip made out of washing line so I could be Indiana Jones, and a magic staff like Monkey Magic made from a broom handle coloured in with felt tip pen.
Wait does that kid have an Ultrasaber O_o
0:33 so does the boy represent Finn because Kylo Ren is one with the dark side let it flow LET IT FLOOOOOW THIS IS THE END OF THE JEDI
if the action sequences in VII are half as good as this, then we’re on a winner
This battery commercial felt more like Star Wars than the prequels did, and the effects were better too.
that awkward moment when this commercial made you believe that a star wars live action series is possible
I got the feels
Ok.. I have to admit. That was FREAKING AWESOME!!!. 🙂 Pretty much me and my friends back in the 80’s in the back yard playing out the characters. Makes me miss being a kid.
So I guess Rey can force push. Spoiler?
Be charming if it weren’t for the perfect beautiful rich family who have everything. Including the most expensive batteries.
Additional thing that is TFA era design…C-3PO’s red arm.
Any coincidence that the sister’s name sounds a lot like Leia? (Lisa)
REY GETS LUKE’S LIGHTSABER CONFIRMED
I like how the batteries are the same color as 3PO..with the red and gold. They are using the Old At-At’s tho…kinda weird
