‘The Mandalorian’ Nominated for Best Drama Series at the WGA Awards

The Mandalorian

Awards season is running full steam ahead now, and we are at the nominations announcements stage. Earlier this week, the Golden Globes announced their list of nominees, with The Mandalorian aiming at the Best Drama Series award there, and now, both the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards and Writers Guild of America (WGA) Awards have announced their candidates for their lists.

The live-action Star Wars show scored one of the five spots at the big prize for television at the WGA Awards, Best Drama Series. The Mandalorian will compete against AMC’s Better Call Saul, Amazon’s The Boys, Netflix’s The Crown, and Netflix’s Ozark. While it will be hard for Favreau to receive the statue, the show has definitely a shot at it. Most likely, its biggest competitors will be  Better Call Saul and Ozark, with maybe The Crown sliding in too. On the bright side, Favreau’s excellent writing for The Mandalorian season 2 might get some recognition from the Writers Guild of America, so here’s hoping for that. Unfortunately, Ozark brought all of its big guns in terms of writing for its third season.

The Mandalorian did not manage to score a nomination for the biggest prize at the SAG Awards, Best Ensemble in a Drama Series, but that might be because having the main actor of the show with his face covered most of the time goes against their rules for that category. Instead, The Mandalorian will compete for the Best Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama series. The other shows nominated for that category are Amazon’s The Boys, Netflix’s Cobra Kai, HBO’s Lovecraft Country, and HBO’s Westworld. The biggest competitor will most likely be Lovecraft Country, but once again, we feel optimistic about the chances for The Mandalorian.

The WGA Awards ceremony will happen on Sunday, March 21, 2021, and the SAG Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 4, 2021.
