Rumor: ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Might Not Start Filming Until April

The Mandalorian

The group FTIA (Film & Television Industry Aliiance) are claiming to have information that suggests The Mandalorian season 3 will not begin filming until April of this year. We are reporting this as a rumor of course because there are no official sources supporting this information, and this website has been wrong in the past regarding significant information in reports on the Obi Wan Kenobi series, and have received heavy dismissal from those at Lucasfilm including Pablo Hidalgo. So take this information with all of that in mind.

According to FTIA’s site, filming for the third season of The Mandalorian is to begin on April 5, 2021 in Los Angeles. No other information is provided in their report.

The site’s reporting on Star Wars productions came into question when they reported the Obi-Wan Kenobi series was starting filming in January, including initially reporting filming would take place in Boston, Massachusetts, later to be corrected as Boston, England. The site also curiously used the non-canon Legends novel Kenobi as the description for the series. We reported on that situation back in early December.

Lucasfilm executive Pablo Hidalgo took some shots at FTIA for their incorrect Kenobi report as well, and in tweets on his private account, alluded to other instances from the past in which the site incorrectly reported on Star Wars productions. We are not here to cast stones, as we have gotten reports wrong as well, however it is important to look at history when it comes to reports on the same subject from the source in question.

With all of this said, maybe it is true that The Mandalorian is filming in April. If that is the case, the series will likely return in Spring 2022, as the production-to-air timeframe of the series has been over a year for each of the first two seasons. We reached out to Lucasfilm for comment, though we don’t anticipate a response on this. As always we will keep you up to date if and when more information on the production of season 3 surfaces.
