The 51st Annie Awards revealed its nominations for 2023, with Star Wars: Visions receiving six nominations. The event celebrates excellence in the field of animation. Some of the categories Visions has been nominated for include “Best Character Animation – TV/Media” and “Best Direction – TV/Media.” Ahsoka has also been nominated for one category. The winners will be revealed on February 17th.

In total, Star Wars: Visions has six nominations: “Best FX – TV/Media,” “Best Character Animation – TV/Media,” “Best Direction – TV/Media,” “Best Music – TV/Media,” “Best Production Design – TV/Media,” and “Best Editorial – TV/Media.” Ahsoka has one nomination for “Best Character Animation – Live Action.”

Star Wars: Visions
Cartoon Saloon’s Screecher’s Reach received two nominations at the Annie Awards.

Visions’ nominations are spread fairly evenly across its different episodes and animation studios. El Guiri’s Sith and Cartoon Saloon’s Screecher’s Reach both received two nominations. The episodes titled I Am Your Mother and Aau’s Song both received one nomination. The winners will be announced on Saturday, February 17th in Los Angeles, California.

Other notable nominees include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Blue Eye Samurai, The Boy and the Heron, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. The categories are divided into their respective mediums, with television, movies, and video games all getting recognized.

In my review of Star Wars: Visions Volume 2, I called it “a towering achievement for Lucasfilm and animation,” and marked Screecher’s Reach and In the Stars as personal favorites of mine. The Emmys also recognized the show, awarding Star Wars: Visions an Emmy in production design.

Following its success, Star Wars: Visions has been reportedly renewed for a third season. However, there hasn’t been any news of when the third season will be released. In terms of animation, the only confirmed shows for 2024 have been The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi, not to mention Young Jedi Adventures, which just announced that its final episodes of season 1 will be debuting on Disney Plus on February 14.
