‘Star Wars: Visions’ Volume 2 Short Screecher’s Reach’ Wins Emmy in Juried Animation Category – Production Design

Star Wars animation continues to have an Emmy presence. Star Wars: Visions volume 2 episode “Screecher’s Reach” won an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation in the category for Production Design. Congratulations to the animation studio, Cartoon Saloon and all those at Lucasfilm who contributed to this fantastic episode of Star Wars storytelling!

We’ve included detail from the official Television Academy website on the awards below:

The Television Academy announced Wednesday the winners of the 75th Emmy Awards in juried categories from Animation, Costume, Hairstyling, Makeup and Motion Design. These juried awards will be presented at the 75th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which will take place at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE over two consecutive nights, Saturday, Jan. 6, and Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at 5:00 PM PST. An edited presentation will air Saturday, Jan. 13, at 8:00 PM EST/PST on FXX.

If you’re confused about the way these awards are being judged and announced, you’re not alone. The Television Academy included the below description in last year’s award announcement:

Juried category entrants are screened by a panel of professionals in the appropriate peer groups (Animation, Costume Design, Emerging Media Programming, Hairstyling, Makeup and Motion Design) with the possibility of one, more than one or no entry awarded an Emmy. As a result, there are no nominees but instead, a one-step evaluation and voting procedure. Deliberations include open discussions of each entrant’s work with a thorough review of the merits of awarding the Emmy.

“Screecher’s Reach” was an exceptionally strong short among an entire volume of terrific shorts. Its exploration of ambition, love, sacrifice, and consequence haunted viewers and proved to be a unique and noteworthy addition to the Star Wars storytelling universe.

Check out our review of the entire second volume here, and congratulations again to Cartoon Saloon!
