Rumor: ‘Tales of the Jedi’ May Receive Spin-Offs About the Sith and Bounty Hunters

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi may be receiving company in the animated anthology front, as similar shows about the Sith and Bounty Hunters may be in the pipeline.

During a discussion about the first season of the show on the Star Wars Sessions podcast, the hosts of the program indicated at the 49:00 mark that they’ve heard that their listeners should anticipate additional follow-ups to Tales of the Jedi that fall outside of the existing, Jedi-focused format:

Luke Bligh: It’s hard to come out and confirm stuff, and things, but I think we’re gonna be seeing – we’ve heard we’re gonna be seeing more Tales of projects. So I don’t think that’s ending anytime soon.

Matt Hudson: Again, we’ve heard Tales of something, and it ain’t Jedi, and it sounds pretty cool. And if it comes to fruition, I think that people are going to lose their minds, if it is what we’ve heard. But, conjecture/speculation aside, if we do get a Tales of the Jedi Season 2, I hope get meaningful little vignettes like we got with the Dooku one.

While initially playing coy about what Tales of Something Else was, Matt Hudson was potentially a little more transparent about what these follow-up projects might be at around the 1:18:55 mark, while making “predictions” about the future:

Matt Hudson: I predict that the Tales of series is gonna get a new installment, whether it’s Tales of the Sith or Tales of the Bounty Hunters or something to shake it up a little bit. [Luke Bligh snickers] I think we’re gonna get something new, because it could get a little stale if it’s just Jedi.

Luke Bligh: [playfully] Is that a prediction, mister Hudson, or is that a scoop?

Matt Hudson: What? [laughs] It’s a prediction.

Luke Bligh: [laughs] Oh, okay. All right.

Matt Hudson: [laughs] A new series – Tales of will get a new iteration… They’re gonna announce something new about that one.

As it stands, this discussion is admittedly about predictions, but the earlier discussion, combined with the playful back-and-forth between the two hosts, possibly suggests that something more is at play here. You can listen to the full podcast below:

The first season of Tales of the Jedi utilized a similar animation style to the seventh and final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and fittingly kept its focus on two characters prominently included throughout that series. The first was Ahsoka Tano, which explored narratives of her life before, during, and after the Great Jedi Purge, and the second was Count Dooku, exploring his time as a master to Qui-Gon Jinn and a member of the Jedi Council, showcasing disillusionment with the Republic and the Jedi Order as institutions, which led to him defecting and becoming Darth Sidious’s apprentice. Last year as a surprise announcement for a panel commemorating the fifteenth anniversary of The Clone Wars at Star Wars Celebration Europe, Dave Filoni confirmed that a second season was in development, though he did not specify which Jedi would take center stage this time around.

Currently, there are no concrete plans for the future of Star Wars animation past the already-confirmed second season of Tales of the Jedi and the third and final season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, both of which will be released on Disney Plus at unspecified points this year. It has been assumed that more Star Wars Visions episodes will be developed, but given that those involve outside studios, that would leave the workload for Lucasfilm’s animated division relatively light. Without a new long-form animated series to take its place (as far as we are aware of), it’s possible that Lucasfilm opts to explore a multitude of other characters in this short-form format for the time being.

For now, the first season of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is available to stream on Disney Plus.
