‘Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi’ To Receive a Second Season

The second day of Star Wars Celebration is almost over, and yet surprising bits of news continue to drop. Just announced at the Clone Wars 15th anniversary panel is a second season of Tales of the Jedi, the six-episode anthology series of shorts set around the prequel era and done in The Clones Wars-style animation. Dave Filoni never seems to fully give up animation, but for fans of Star Wars animation, this reluctance is a gift.

Towards the end of the panel, as the voice actors in attendance (Dee Bradley Baker, Ashley Eckstein, Matt Lanter, and James Arnold Taylor) were joking around and delivering some iconic Star Wars and The Clone Wars lines, Filoni — in an attempt to rein in the panelists and wrap the show up — mentioned that he had some news to deliver. He went on to say:

Tales of the Jedi was so fun the first time, I decided to do some more. What’s become apparent to me is the Jedi have to continue to teach their Padawans, and I have to continue to teach my Padawans in animation… so that Lucasfilm animation can continue to be strong.”

There is little else known about season 2. I expect the shorts to be another round of deep dives on well-known characters, perhaps some that have been explored less than others in either live-action or animation, such as Yaddle in season 1. At this point, there is no information about when season 2 will release, but we can make some educated speculations based on the timeline for season 1. Tales of the Jedi season 1 was announced officially at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in 2022 and released later that year in October 2022. Therefore, it’s possible that, based on this announcement, we could receive season 2 in late 2023. However, given that there have been no rumors nor information floating around about season 2, it’s also possible it was greenlit later and won’t come out until next year.

Stay tuned for more updates on Tales of the Jedi season 2, and check back next Monday for new animation tidbits from The Bad Batch panel.
