New Disney Plus Special ‘Master and Apprentice: A Special Look at Ahsoka’ Hitting on September 15, Could it Hint at Anakin’s Return in Episode 5?

This week, Disney revealed a list of upcoming titles coming to Disney Plus during the month of September. In it, they included a brand-new Star Wars title, Master and Apprentice: A Special Look at Ahsoka. Via the D23 website, here’s the description of the project:

“Disney+ will also air new episodes of Star Wars: Ahsoka, which follow Ahsoka Tano as she investigates a threat to the galaxy, every Wednesday with episodes 4 through 7 airing in September. On September 15, audiences can watch how the series continues Star Wars’ legacy in Master & Apprentice: A Special Look at Ahsoka.”

It should be noted that the post was published before Lucasfilm made the announcement that Ahsoka would be moving the time of the release of new episodes to Tuesday 6pm PT/9pm ET/Wednesday 2am BST. However, the date of the special look just so happens to coincide with the week of the release of the fifth episode of the series. This is especially noticeable because it’s the only other episode besides the premiere that showrunner Dave Filoni directed, which could hint at a major event happening in it.

It’s been out in the world for almost two years that Hayden Christensen signed a deal to return to the Star Wars galaxy in Ahsoka (Lucasfilm has still not confirmed that story by The Hollywood Reporter). Putting two and two together, it seemed like a big hint that Filoni would choose to direct the episode in which that happens, so we were already on alert for episode 5 when the directing lineup for individual episodes was announced. With the announcement of Master and Apprentice: A Special Look at Ahsoka, Lucasfilm has added more fuel to that fire — after all, not everyone tuning into the show may be familiar with the history between Anakin and Ahsoka, and contextualizing whatever happens in episode 5 with previous adventures between the two seems like a good idea.

The first two episodes of Ahsoka will debut Tuesday evening (US time), in the aforementioned time slot. Our non-spoiler review will be published Tuesday morning, but you can already check out our social media post summarizing my personal thoughts here:
