Report: Surfaced ‘Star Wars’ New Jedi Order Film Synopsis Is Not Accurate

A disturbance in the Force was felt today after a screenshot from the latest issue of Production Weekly was posted to Reddit. The listing included the upcoming film by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which is set to bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker, as an April 2024 shoot in Pinewood. Additionally, it labeled the project as Star Wars: New Jedi Order and provided a brief synopsis. That synopsis described the film as taking place 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, with Rey training two young apprentices, a boy and a girl. Ultimately, the girl is described as a candidate to emerge as a future leader.

However, a source has told Star Wars News Net that this synopsis is not accurate and does not represent the story that writer Steven Knight was developing for Lucasfilm before the writers’ strike was called on May 2. We also understand that New Jedi Order is simply a working title of the film, and not necessarily the one it will receive. (It’s possible that they haven’t even zeroed in on a title yet, as the script is not even complete yet.) The listing by Production Weekly also cites an April 2024 start date in Pinewood and a release date of May 22, 2026. We haven’t been able to confirm either one of these details, but we understand that these are tentative dates for now and will likely depend on how the strike evolves. (Reporter Jeff Sneider said last week during the Hot Mic podcast that the film was targeting to start filming in that time window.)

Just for the record, and keeping in mind that this is not an accurate description of the film, here is the listing by Production Weekly:

Peaky Blinders writer and creator Steven Knight was typing away by the time before the WGA strike and was supposed to turn in his first draft by the end of May. He picked up the baton after Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson departed the project earlier this year and Lucasfilm decided to undergo a creative overhaul after they reportedly realized the story wasn’t working. Kathleen Kennedy brought Knight on board but kept the director from the previous iteration, two-time Best Documentary Short Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

The new Star Wars film will be set in a new era dubbed as the New Jedi Order, and will see Rey trying to rebuild the Jedi Order after the defeat of the First Order in The Rise of Skywalker. No additional cast members have been announced, though there are rumors out there about John Boyega returning as Finn. The film was looking into starting to cast its lead roles by August at the earliest, and later go into pre-production during the fall.

No release date has been announced for the New Jedi Order Star Wars film, but it’s been reported that Lucasfilm intends it to be the next theatrical release from a galaxy far, far away. The next two theatrical dates for Star Wars have been set for May 22, 2026, and December 18, 2026.
